It kills me that dealerships in other states put their dealership sticker logo on every car. You pay $50,000 for this SUV and the dealer sticks his 50 cent sticker on the back of your brand new car. If I were to buy the car I would tell the dealer to IMMEDIATELY remove that stupid sticker or I won’t buy the car. I can’t believe how many people just leave them on their cars. Unbelievable.....
If it were me, I would just get a 2020. They have good incentives, and on top trim levels, nothing has really changed. We picked up a Black Edition on June 12, 2020 and love it!
Great Video! I feel like Honda should have redesigned the Pilot for the 2021 model year especially because Toyota just redesigned the Highlander this year.
Great video!! However I also viewed another video by AutoTrader Canada when they reviewed the Honda Pilot 2020 and the infotainment also had a lot of static. You did a great job staying focused despite that annoying noise coming from the infotainment system unless you didn’t hear it while taping.
Honda’s product life cycle for most of its model: Redesign-3 years, then facelift-2 years. Then redesign. However, last generation of the Pilot was around for six years. So the Pilot must be following a bit longer cycle. This generation was introduced in 2016, got a facelift in 2019. 2022 should be the redesign year based on the previous generation’s path. I would rather have them get it right than get it rushed like Ford did with their Explorer. Hopefully they will manage their own 10 speed to work with the V6 awd drivetrain by then. The ZF 9 speed is pretty bad. Now the Nissan Pathfinder, that’s the one that should get a redesign. Also, the Durango platform has beem the same since 2011.
I've heard that a redesigned Pathfinder is coming, I just don't know when. It could be very soon though, because Nissan teased some new models for 2021.
Black Edition should have literally everything chrome trimming, metal piece, badging black. Hell even give the headlights and taillights a like smoked tint. Like if you're going to call it "black edition", go all out.
I really hope the entire model changes...shape wise. Hopefully it looks like an SUV in 2022 and not so mini-van-ish like it does now. I still have my box 2011 EX-L model and I love it. But if I need to change, would love to continue with the pilot but not this current shape.

I wish car manufacturers start focusing on CONTINUOUS (year-by-year) improvements and changes rather than CONTINUAL (few to several years) cycles. These car models are falling behind and they really need to keep up with newer features (larger and faster infotainment displays, digital gauge clusters, HUD, panoramic glass roof, etc).
Waste of money and resources to do yearly changes and i assume it would be to much work to change their factories every year. Also by doing the changes in a couple of years actually gives time for people to voice the issues and also gives the company time to address them and fix it in the refresh

I have the 2019 Touring Pilot and yes it does have heated seats in the rear. Yeah at this point I would wait to for the 2022 model or 2023 after they work out all the issues.
@@Benjamin06267485 the main issue with this current model of the Pilot is the 9 speed transmission. They did fix a lot of it with the revised 2019-2021 model but it still gear hunt around 30-40 MPH. I wish the transmission was smoother but it's not on lower gears. It doesn't happen all the time so it really doesn't bother me overall.
Nah, waiting to see what all the other competitors are bringing to the table is a good ploy. Then build it better than all of them for 2022 model year.
It seems to be the norm for Honda... Acura MDX the interior even exterior been like 6 years without major redesign,,specially interior dash...it's been aging since 2014 And now Honda Pilot line :) Comparing to Toyota ...they are rapidly deploying,redesigning all the lines!
Thanks for video but why not do it on the SE model since that's all new for 2021? You already did a Black Edition for 2020 that's why. I got a 2019 Pilot Touring AWD 8 and I love it for the most part minus the transmission isn't super smooth. It likes to gear hunt around 30mph but otherwise it's good. I can't to see how the 2022 Pilot and MDX will look like. We'll see if the V6 will stick around or are they gonna give us that same Turbo 4 in the RDX. I think Honda did a good job with this current generation of Pilot and I know a lot of people don't like the curvy look and prefer a more boxy type one of the last generation which I agree with. Honda have done so well that even Kia took some ques from them like they usually do. I see a lot of features on the Pilot that are on the Telluride. Those Telluride are nice too but too bad dealerships out there aren't budging on the price and also adding markups smh. Kia needs to build a lot more 😁.
Also the "Black Edition" "AWD" badge looks very weird and poorly thought of imo. Either just keep "AWD" and remove "Black Edition" or move the "Black Edition" logo to the left
As nice as this 2021 model is I would rather wait for the remodel. I was definitely in the market for a new pilot but now it doesn't make sense when a new one is only a few months away.
Amazing video you guys! I personally like the pilot but the only thing I don't like are wheels or rims for this year. I prefer the ones that the Touring or Elite trim prior to this year had (they looked like stars), those were way better. (imo)

@@j.r.arnolli7494 it’s decades of muscle memory using a traditional shifter. It’s dangerous. So much so, that CR and other professional reviews have expressed concern as well. Push button transmissions have been attempted before and went the way of the Dodo

The interior looks a little better, a friend of mines had leased an EX with leather a couple of years ago and the interior just looked and felt so cheap.

My 2021 Honda Pilot Black edition bought in January 2021 is so noisy/ staticky when using the blue tooth hands free calling feature. The dealership tells me all their 2021 Honda pilots acts the same. Can anyone confirm if this is true? 56K was the price and So disappointed!

I don’t recommend Honda 2021. Because I bought Honda Pilot 2021 Ex from Hilside Honda, NY. In2 weeks later it’s shown warning sign, Then I took to Honda service, they said it’s not covered by warranty, I had to pay $550. After 1 month later I have again problem with window it’s not working from driver seat button. If you don’t believe I can send with video.
I don't like it at all, some new features are great but I wouldn't trade in my 2014 exl 4x4 for this model, noway! Took a lot of the great roomy comfort and storage away for the tech. Keep It!
Id take a lot of crossovers over this... needs a major redesign. Hopefully Honda moves away from the economy plasticky interiors they are known for. Also needs better infotainment. Kia Telluride and Toyota Highlander absolutely crush this. Honda was king until the Telluride came out and gave it a reality check, along with the highlander. Now all Honda can rely on is brand loyalty. Also, the 3.5 V6 needs an update. It still has a timing belt and is an interference engine.
I have had opportunities to have rental SUVs and driven over 1000kms, by far the best SUV is the Suburban or Tahoe and second choice would be the Highlander. Reliability wise I would probably bet my money on Highlander. The Pilot was the most disappointing and probably with inferior automatic transmission, I would only lease Pilot while on warranty. Out of warranty, I wouldn’t touch the Pilot with the 10 foot pole. Hondas strength were 4 cyclinder small engines, with double wishbone suspension and straight forward 4 or 5 speed automatic back 20 years ago. The V6 Hondas are horrible combinations with their automatic transmission as they were not built correctly and prone to failure. Honda knew of this issue since 1999 and failed to address this on all their current V6 models.
Men, don't let the little lady pick out the SUV! Men, don't let mama castrate you when it comes to get a real man's SUV! The Honda Pilot is mama's SUV! LOL! Mama upgraded from the minivan to the Pilot; however, the Pilot is not a real man's SUV! First, let's look at the horsepower. 280 hp! Really! Something that weighs that much with a meesly 280hp loaded with the family trying to pass on the highway in the fast lane! LMAO! Secondly, let's look at the towing capacity. 5,000lbs! that's all!?! Again, if a person has the whole family in the Pilot and towing a boat decides to get in the fast lane on the highway to pass a vehicle. OMG! Talking about major disappointment and stuck with keeping that slow vehicle until it gets paid off! Mama aint thinking about a SUV towing abilities, just like a man isn't thinking about what type of make-up women should buy! Men, don't let the little lady talk you into buying a Pilot! I've seen to many men become disappointed from the lack of manly capabilities of the Pilot! Real men buy a Durango RT/SRT/Hellcat! The RT has 370hp. and 7400lbs towing. The SRT 485hp and 8900lbs towing!
Test drove and found 3 disappointments 1.... why place the blind spot notification inside the cabin in the door frame = terrible after thought. ??? Safety issue. No. 2... V6 a dog at low rpms? 3... open plan center console has cheap uncomfortable arm chair rests??? Sorry. Nope.
I really want to like the Pilot, but it's past due for an overhaul. I absolutely hate the current instrument design, it just screams "soccer mom" and is as un-sporty as they could possibly get. The Black Edition does look nice though, with the exception of the blacked-out wheels. I would probably take them off and swap them out for the contrasting design of the lower trim levels.
I thought the point of button shifters was to save more space but it is just taking up the same amount of space as a regular shifter. So whats the point?
@@paulc2548 if you scoot the 2nd row seats forward you probably could. Its not any less spacious than this is. The Telluride, Traverse, and Acadia have more spacious third rows.

Correction: The rear heated seats are standard on TOURING and up. I sat in a Touring the other day.
Iirc you have to get the captain chairs which are optional on touring. I don't think the bench comes with heated seats

There’s something to be said about the negatives of buying a first generation model year. Usually those cars have all the bugs.

I have had opportunities to have rental SUVs and driven over 1000kms, by far the best SUV is the Suburban or Tahoe and second choice would be the Highlander. Reliability wise I would probably bet my money on Highlander. The Pilot was the most disappointing and probably with inferior automatic transmission, I would only lease Pilot while on warranty. Out of warranty, I wouldn’t touch the Pilot with the 10 foot pole. Hondas strength were 4 cyclinder small engines, with double wishbone suspension and straight forward 4 or 5 speed automatic back 20 years ago. The V6 Hondas are horrible combinations with their automatic transmission as they were not built correctly and prone to failure. Honda knew of this issue since 1999 and failed to address this on all their current V6 models.
It's successful until Telluride/Palisade Duo came up.

Something that weighs that much with a meesly 280hp loaded with the family trying to pass on the highway in the fast lane! LMAO! Secondly, let's look at the towing capacity. 5,000lbs! that's all!?! Again, if a person has the whole family in the Pilot and towing a boat decides to get in the fast lane on the highway to pass a vehicle. OMG! Talking about major disappointment and stuck with keeping that slow vehicle until it gets paid off! Mama aint thinking about a SUV towing abilities, just like a man isn't thinking about what type of make-up women should buy! Men, don't let the little lady talk you into buying a Pilot! I've seen to many men become disappointed from the lack of manly capabilities of the Pilot! Real men buy a Durango RT/SRT/Hellcat! The RT has 370hp. and 7400lbs towing. The SRT 485hp and 8900lbs towing!
I understand that Honda has eliminated the right side camera on the 2021 Pilot. If true, too bad. A small price for a big safety item1. Bad takeaway.

1.... why place the blind spot notification inside the cabin in the door frame = terrible after thought. ??? Safety issue. No.

That third row seats is a mediocre, even for small kids. I was ready to trade in my 2014 Touring but when I saw the third row i was disappointed.
I really want to like the Pilot, but it's past due for an overhaul. I absolutely hate the current instrument design, it just screams "soccer mom" and is as un-sporty as they could possibly get. The Black Edition does look nice though, with the exception of the blacked-out wheels. I would probably take them off and swap them out for the contrasting design of the lower trim levels.

The only downsize for Highlander is the 3rd row seat is totally unusable. You cannot even fit a 10 years old back there.
@@paulc2548 if you scoot the 2nd row seats forward you probably could. Its not any less spacious than this is. The Telluride, Traverse, and Acadia have more spacious third rows.

I believe you have to turn it off each trip. If you press lightly on the brake pedal at red lights you can also keep it from activating

Transportation problems and electrical problems. Honda is fallen down in the reliability index. Also, breaks ABS problems.
Pilot needs to change the center arm rest. Stop acting like a minivan and just follow what the MDX, and every other SUV, does.
