How important are extra curricular activities, awards, and your resume (such as the jobs or internships you did) for the transfer applicant process? Is it just as important as getting good grades? And also did you have any of the sort?
Hey Ryan! Extracurriculars are super important (some fun, some career oriented etc). It's not just about your grades it's about what contributions you're going to bring to their campus. They want someone who is going to get involved and make a difference. Awards - unless it's a really prestigious award I can't see it making a big difference but it never hurts. Jobs and Internships are definitely important. It shows your ambition, commitment, and drive to learn. It's impossible to say if these things matter more, the same, or less than grades because different schools look for different things during different years. However they definitely help your application and can even make up for lack of good grades sometimes. Good luck!
1:50 wait I don’t understand why they don’t want transfer students for that particular major, can’t you start from first year as a transfer student. I’m asking cause I want to transfer to a different major in a different college
Honestly I'd say apply to everything you can, like any local scholarships, and larger online ones. My friend even wrote the financial aid people (at a smaller school) and simply asked/appealed for more money and it worked for her. Unfortunately its really hard to get money for some schools and is a huge factor I considered when picking what school I wanted to go to. Schools are really stingy with money for transfers :( Hope that helps!
I’m trying to transfer to NYU or Fordham from a really small liberal arts college. I was going to play sports here, but I had a serious injury and am planning on quitting.
I’m trying to transfer from UW to a small liberal arts college. I find that getting to know my professors is difficult and was wondering if you have any advice on how to obtain an academic LOR within a relatively short period of time.
Hmm thats a tough one. I went to a large school too but was pretty close with a couple profs. You could talk to anyone that might know you at all like it doesn't have to be within your major like if you've gone to their office hours or could be like a prof that has been the supervisor for a lab/club/an extra curricular you're in. One of my letters was from a post doc/TA that knew me well. You can also offer to write it for them or give them a list of things you want them to know or say about you! This helps them if they don't know you well/don't know what you want highlighted and makes the job easier for them. Other than that I would say just go make appointments or go to OHs and talk to a few profs a lot and consistently in the time you have about your life/their life/their research etc. Good luck!
small liberal arts colleges are SO easy to work with, you will realize that reaching out to a professor is so easy. The classes will be smaller so it feels just like high school. It will be super easy to connect with teachers.
How would you know when it’s appropriate to ask a professor for a letter of recommendation? I go to office hours for most of my professors and they know who I am but I am but im not sure if they know me beyond homework and study questions
Well then I'd say choose a couple of your favorites and go in and talk to them on a less academic level. Like go and talk to them about their research and how they got into their field. That's always a good starting point for creating a relationship with them. But I think you going to office hours still speaks to a lot because it shows you care and are putting in the work
Yeah I did for the non UC schools, I talk a bit about it in the vid! :) In my experience and from all other experiences I've heard of you're generally not allowed to upload your official transcript because it has to come directly from the school to be official. So for all my apps I had to get the registrar to send my official transcripts to the other schools office of admissions. Hope that helps!
Hi, I plan on applying to transfer as soon as my semester ends on the 14th. I am a division 3 lacrosse player in New Jersey but I want to become a student fulltime at a bigger school for my academics. I have a 3.8 GPA right now but my grades were slightly above average throughout High School so I am unsure what my chances are looking like. As a former transfer, what do you think?
How did u transfer to NYU? Bc I’m going to baruch college as a freshman in the spring. I’m gonna do a year and a half and get a 3.9 and try to transfer
Hii! this video is very helpful and I have a question, if you transfer on an agreement do you still have to do those essays and would you start off as a freshman?
Hi! Yeah as long as you have the requirements down. For UCs and CSUs you have to be junior standing but that is dependent on the amount of units you have not your time in school.
Hey! Sorry for the late response! It might be a small factor but if you're doing well at the school and doing what you can to get involved and show them you take initiative in pursing your academic interests then it wont matter much and definitely won't make or break your application!
Also if one went to a school with "worse stats" or a higher acceptance rate and was doing well, that would look much better than a person going to a "top" school but doing badly. Hope thats helpful!
Hey! I am also thinking of applying as a transfer student! Your video is really inspiring! I would really like to contact you as I need some help and guidance. How can I contact you?
To a UC or a CSU no, you have to be junior standing but to other schools its possible! Likely though the application round is for Fall 2019. Transferring Spring 2019 applications were a while ago
Thanks for the video 🙂! I was wondering if I can transfer to NYU from Webster University, can anyone help me in this question? Thanks for your attention ☺️!
Hey! To be honest I don't think it'll very helpful because they might've put more emphasis on something my year than they do another year. And my stats are from almost 3 years ago so things have definitely changed on whats idea!
I don't really feel like it's helpful to specifically discuss that since mine are different from everyone else's and schools look for different things.
This is honestly the most helpful transfer video that I’ve come across!! Thank you so much- so under viewed imo
Aw thanks! I'm glad it was helpful, feel free to share it to others :)
Thank you so much there are no good resources on this topic it was so frustrating
Im so glad it helped! :)
This is very helpful! I hope you can make a video about the process of transferring to other colleges!
Great video! It's so hard to find transfer videos.
Thank you so much!! This is really helpful!

Im so glad! And I'm so sorry :( That is the worst, I hope you find a school you love as much or more!!
this was so helpful and encouraging - thanks! where did you end up transferring to?
Aw im so glad! New vid coming soon :) I ended up choosing UC Berkeley!
i’m transferring from uw to wsu because i find there’s a lack of the college experience since it’s more of city campus vs a college town
That's my friend!!!!!
I was wondering if you used the Common App to transfer. If so, how did you (or your college) upload the official transcript?

60 percent of community college students never transfer. They make transferring so complicated.

What was your GPA in college and high school before transferring
Which university did you go at first?
I went to a different UC for my first 2 years!
I’m trying to transfer from HK to US. I find my GPA is not good enough. Do the schools care about transfer's GPA? Or other performance?
@Ke Lu Thank you!

Hmmm I actually don't remember sorry. I was applying 2 years ago now. I'm sure it's on their website though!
hindi am applying to barnard as a transfer right now. could i possibly get help?
Can I transfer in 3 years?
Hi! Yeah as long as you have the requirements down. For UCs and CSUs you have to be junior standing but that is dependent on the amount of units you have not your time in school.
Do you think the university’s care to much about your actual school’s statistics/acceptance rates/rank?

I can't hear anything.
stat?
I don't really feel like it's helpful to specifically discuss that since mine are different from everyone else's and schools look for different things.
the background music is too loud that it makes it hard to understand what you're even saying
Lol thanks for the input. No one else has had a problem though so I think its okay, maybe it's your audio/ears?
