An upcoming sophomore here in college. Im desperately want to transfer to that school badly. I'm trying to major biology there, so hopefully, I get accepted into that school as a transfer applicant. edit: Submitted my application for spring transfer ^^
This bro did everything on hard mode. Mad respect tho cuz he not *ONLY* got into some amazing schools, but he had the cajones to post his Ls and not take himself too serious. Still, Easy Mode would have been to select the least impacted STEM majors and then change your major your freshman year. This strategy helped me get into 3/5 UCs I applied and my stats were no where near impressive as his. For context, I applied under Applied Mathematics and then switched to Financial Mathematics. I believe the same thing can be done for Comp Sci, just go under Informatics or Information Systems. These majors are usually under the same school (e.g., of Engineering or Letters & Science). For some schools if it’s under the same department, you may even be able to keep the same advisor. The problem with public universities these days is that they require you to know the ins and outs. Even in university, you’ll have to be strategic about courses and time management to get the best GPA. I found myself not risking my GPA for more interesting/relevant classes in the fear of getting a B+. I wish the system would allow for some more intellectual curiosity and make courses hard-but not so that you have to weed through them to get to the finish line.
This is cool to see. I was not the book smart kid in HS (graduated 2011). My brother was, and I had the street smarts. Went to college for 2 years, dropped out, joined the military, went back and finished undergrad, just finished grad school, working on applying for a applied doctorate. Our paths are always different, and seeing yours makes me curious how my 2 kids will end up 15-ish years from now. Good luck to you, Stanley.
this video made me feel so much better on college applications. Many videos I have been watching all having crazy ecs, awards and perfect gpa/sat, but ur stats/ecs made me feel related and not stress out bc of this process.
Bro I just stumbled across this video. It’s crazy to see someone from hellville making content. I was class of ‘15 from Hamill. I went through a similar experience with rejections from my top choices. Ended up at a small liberal arts school I dropped out of my second year, transferred to a small school in California. Got my degree, got my master’s, and past couple of days just got acceptances from UCLA, Penn, and USC. Keep your chin up and keep working! Genuinely apply your heart to your work and the results will speak for itself.
hey man, just my two cents as a fellow applicant this year. heard a lot of research and data to point out that during this year, almost every single college has received near double the amount of applicants they would have had under normal circumstances, and I can only assume that this can be attributed to the entire world moving out of lockdown. this surge forced a lot of universities into really tough decisions - which they kept postponing (considerably more deferrals and waitlists) so if anybody didnt get into some universities that they really wanted to this year, dont worry about it dude. dont downplay yourself. side note congratulations to you, Stanley on some great admits! hope everyone has fun in whatever endeavour they pursue!
I'm actually applying to those school you applied currently. Love your sincerity and honesty In your video. Congratulations on your NYU journey. Wish me luck.
UIUC rejection is crazy...you're more than qualified to go, I live in Illinois and a bunch of people from my school go there every year with stats that are a quarter of yours. Loved the video, all the best at NYU!
the engineering acceptance rate is low for UIUC, and I wouldn't be surprised if CE was a little lower (given that CS is like 6%). Other non-engineering related majors are far easier to get accepted to UIUC for, so I would guess that the people from your school might mark other intended majors
@@asterparsic3693 yeah, definitely. We still send quite a few people to various engineering majors each year, but overall in state is still quite a bit higher than oos so I can see how that happened

Congrats bro, although from what I’ve seen the best thing to do is try your best to get into only a couple of schools. You were obviously smart enough for all these schools you applied to, but so is the majority of people applying. What gets you in is showing a lot of interest in a University and writing a good essay, etc. Especially with many schools going test optional, the best bet for anyone looking to go to college is to invest a lot into a school you really love and theoretically have the grades to get into. Schools don’t want to accept people who are just trying to get into any top-level university, they want people who are interested in them specifically.
College admissions are so freaky. Guy from my school got into UChicago for Poli Sci with similar caliber extracurriculars and worse grades and SAT. Another guy got into UIUC for EE with worse extracurriculars, stats and grades overall.
This was a great experiment bro. Ty for sharing. Btw you had an exceptional resume so I'm shocked you didn't get in to those Ivy's... But you know what, you will far succeed all of that in the future. Now go do big things in NYU!

Great college reaction video! I noticed that none of the UC's you applied to accepted you. From what I've known, they favor more students from California(not entirely sure if you are from there). For example from my school, UCLA and UCB both accepted 30+ students. Top 10 basically guaranteed admission, and for others they have a well rounded background. Rumor has it that the UC System in general is a coin flip system. I know this info doesn't mean anything to you anymore, so what matters is to keep that rhythm going at NYU!

A 1560 SAT, 4.25 weighted GPA and 8 AP classes with nothing but 4s and 5s has officially netted me a college acceptance rate of... 14%. What I have learned is that it's pretty clear what you did in high school has almost no impact on what colleges accept you.
I'm honestly surprised that GT didn't accept you. I know so many people with worse stats and extracurriculars who were accepted for engineering majors. The only things I could think of that caused so many rejection was the lack of AP classes, since that is considered to be the most rigorous high school course level. I don't think not having a weighted GPA made much of a difference since most colleges calculate each applicant's GPA themselves now, but another problem could have been your essays. From what I know, universities look for personality traits and goals in you writing that match their university. Like you really have to do research about eat university to see what they have that others don't that you think you be very beneficial to your education. Other than that, your stats were FLAWLESS.
I think most colleges will look heavily into essays and regions. Colleges in your state/region will be more likely to accept you because it's more likely you will actually move to their school. If you apply to a random college from across the country, they might reject you without even looking further. Colleges want people that fit with their vision/personality. Stanley, I would love to hear how you managed to maintain such a positive attitude throughout the video. I am waiting on a school decision right now that would probably crush me if I get rejected. Any advice or tips?

many ivy leagues aren't looking for "well rounded" people, they're looking for someone who is exceptionally good, or "the best" in one field. They can be great in every subject, but they're looking for a spike in one subject that the student is passionate about. A way to show that spike is to compete in competitions regarding that subject and winning, starting a club or an organization surrounding that subject, etc. Even with that said, this guy had incredible stats and the selectivity of ivies is honestly stupid (though i assume the sheer amount of schools he applied to affected his essay quality).
@@cheeseandmilk most ivy leagues are actually racially biased AGAINST east Asians, its just that most EA applicants have far better scores and stats when compared to white or applicants of another race.
I also applied to 0 safeties with a mediocre GPA until my third year of high school and a 1290 SAT (which I obviously didn't submit), but stood out with my essay, extracurriculars, and international highschool education (despite being a US citizen). I did some community service, student of the year and led youth group at school, certainly not as impressive as yours. However, I spent weeks researching each college, watching vlogs from each, reading their website and their socials. I was accepted and granted full ride at all in state, and covered most of the out of state colleges.
@@changes777 yes I got accepted into all of them. Furman gave a 55k per year scholarship, USC and Clemson gave me 15k and 20k each (plus about 15k in state and federal scholarships/grants), Vanderbilt and Georgia Tech didn't give me any scholarships but agreed to give me in-state tuition if I did 4 years with them. I rejected Furman because I would have to live in dorm all 4 years, which they were not flexible ( I already knew this policy, since I did my research, and I also knew they where not great). I ended up staying in my city and finishing my 2 years of community college, and reached an agreement with USC they would honor all my credits when I transfer next year ( if you want to transfer, MAKE SURE you get this confirmation IN WRITING, signed if possible. computer engineering even lower prob like ~10-15%
An upcoming sophomore here in college. Im desperately want to transfer to that school badly. I'm trying to major biology there, so hopefully, I get accepted into that school as a transfer applicant.

Hmmm
This is cool to see. I was not the book smart kid in HS (graduated 2011). My brother was, and I had the street smarts. Went to college for 2 years, dropped out, joined the military, went back and finished undergrad, just finished grad school, working on applying for a applied doctorate. Our paths are always different, and seeing yours makes me curious how my 2 kids will end up 15-ish years from now. Good luck to you, Stanley.
yo i dont rly think theres a difference between street and book smart but thats cool how everyone has a different path.
How old were you when you finished your undergrad?
@@sebasloree Finished at 26, grad school at 29.
You’ll do amazing at NYU. Keep up the energy and hard work!
this video made me feel so much better on college applications. Many videos I have been watching all having crazy ecs, awards and perfect gpa/sat, but ur stats/ecs made me feel related and not stress out bc of this process.
awesome video man! loved how you opened the decision letters without any hesitance. congrats on all those impressive acceptances!
You're so chill and real, straight to the point. Some stats heard from others seem so overcomplicated. Keep up the great work.
Watching this was an emotional rollercoaster. Good luck with college!. You’ll do amazing at NYU. Keep up the energy and hard work!.
Genuinely apply your heart to your work and the results will speak for itself.
congrats bro! everything does happen for a reason
hey man, just my two cents as a fellow applicant this year.
heard a lot of research and data to point out that during this year, almost every single college has received near double the amount of applicants they would have had under normal circumstances, and I can only assume that this can be attributed to the entire world moving out of lockdown. this surge forced a lot of universities into really tough decisions - which they kept postponing (considerably more deferrals and waitlists)
so if anybody didnt get into some universities that they really wanted to this year, dont worry about it dude. dont downplay yourself.
side note congratulations to you, Stanley on some great admits!
hope everyone has fun in whatever endeavour they pursue!
@@cupcakeplusher I'm actually also from IL and UIUC is always in the top 10 places that seniors from my school go every year after graduation so yeah they definitely prioritize in state
I'm going to UIUC out of state for engineering (actually typing this from my dorm right now!), engineering school is surprisingly pretty competitive! I'm not sure if out of state vs in state makes a difference, I'm guessing it does because it's a state school
@@asterparsic3693 Just for some perspective, I'm currently a freshman at UIUC from NJ. From my school, actually not that many kids even apply or know about it. In NJ, people are more focused on GA tech than UIUC, so it's a pretty obscure pick

applying to colleges like this is so tough. had a friend i went to high school with he applied to upenn wanted to goto wharton. dude checked all the boxes, student body president, all american wrestler and rower, graduated top of class with a perfect GPA, got a perfect score on his act's took all ap classes got 5's in all of them (perfect score) and was still rejected. ended up going to uva honors college full ride so he did ok but its crazy how brutal the competition is with these schools

😂
I commend you on submitting this man applications. Makes me wish I applied to more schools. Luckily UC Davis worked out.
I’m doing a no safety application as well, but in the UK where we only get to apply to 5. Congrats on getting into NYU!
don't be afraid of failure, you can always try again. good luck on life bro
College admissions are so freaky. Guy from my school got into UChicago for Poli Sci with similar caliber extracurriculars and worse grades and SAT. Another guy got into UIUC for EE with worse extracurriculars, stats and grades overall.
Dude, you’re a smart kid. You’re going to be a huge success and laugh over this when you’re my age.
thank you for your confidence man. hope it comes true
W ass video, this gives me hope. My SAT is much lower but my other stats are higher and im also shooting for schools like NYU. Congrats!!
This was a great experiment bro. Ty for sharing. Btw you had an exceptional resume so I'm shocked you didn't get in to those Ivy's... But you know what, you will far succeed all of that in the future. Now go do big things in NYU!

Bro I’m in my grad year at NYU. Glad you picked us, you won’t regret it! Good luck bro!
Bro, you are a tank. Best of luck at NYU! I could never sniff any of those schools. Very inspirational.
I only applied to 2 colleges and was luck enough to be accepted into my school of choice and deferred to the Spring semester when. My mind set was "either I get in or I guess i'm taking a gap year to figure something else out." I am now in my last year of college. I wish you the best of luck!
This really shows the shitty confusing college system that somehow rejects a student from UIUC but gets them into Boston and Tufts. mentally damaging fr
The Minecraft music and mood just made this so emotional ;-;
It's been a wild 6 years
For graduate school, I applied to two schools only: Brown and Stanford. I got into both of them. Don’t try this at home folks.

Under my breath I kept saying "accepted" before you said any decision, almost like I wanted you to get in . Good Luck bro

I got into Georgia Tech and flunked out anyways, then I just went back home to NJ and went back to Rutgers lol. As long as the environment is good and you love the subject/major, anywhere is ok! Excel regardless
your a goat bro. You got into some pretty tough schools. Congrats bro. You deserve it.

I’m shocked. I could see the disappointment in your face. With your stats, you should have been accepted to more of those schools. But you’ll do well in the future; you’ve got the smarts and a nice easygoing personality. NYU is a great school and maybe you’ll meet some of the New York UA-camrs. Good luck.
Applying to too many colleges is detrimental, as you need to do a LOT of research to know what they are looking for. I did 6

Damn…how does anybody get accepted to Ivy League if not this very well-rounded and exceptionally smart young man?
many ivy leagues aren't looking for "well rounded" people, they're looking for someone who is exceptionally good, or "the best" in one field.
Their parents went to the Ivy League school
Cuz they’re not asian
@@cheeseandmilk most ivy leagues are actually racially biased AGAINST east Asians, its just that most EA applicants have far better scores and stats when compared to white or applicants of another race.
You know its serious when you call high school your career
I also applied to 0 safeties with a mediocre GPA until my third year of high school and a 1290 SAT (which I obviously didn't submit), but stood out with my essay, extracurriculars, and international highschool education (despite being a US citizen). So far I've gotten into the University of Virginia, UCSD, but rejected by UCLA and University of Florida. Not bad at all! 😂

@@StanleyHir Hey man. What did you decide to go with at the end? And do you have any tips for someone who's about to admit to universities soon?
I think most colleges will look heavily into essays and regions. Colleges in your state/region will be more likely to accept you because it's more likely you will actually move to their school. If you apply to a random college from across the country, they might reject you without even looking further. Colleges want people that fit with their vision/personality. Applying to too many colleges is detrimental, as you need to do a LOT of research to know what they are looking for. I did 6 non-safety colleges, 3 in state and 3 out of state, Clemson, USC, and Furman in state, GT, Vanderbilt and UNC out-of state. I have a 1350SAT, 3.7gpa and 4.5wgpa. I did some community service, student of the year and led youth group at school, certainly not as impressive as yours. However, I spent weeks researching each college, watching vlogs from each, reading their website and their socials. I was accepted and granted full ride at all in state, and covered most of the out of state colleges.
how did u do that any advice my guy?
did you get into all of them?
They will try to wiggle off and make excuses to not honor their transfer agreements, as the more credits you have to take with them, the more $$$ ( happened to two buddies of mine))

He has decent stats, but I wouldn't say they're particularly extraordinary. One main theme I see is that his stats don't really show who he is as a person or his passions since they're kind of just all over the place which is usually a factor that makes applicants stand out
@@Pyrolite what if he has multiple passions? just curious, but if you did have multiple passions, how would you voice that or should you just stick to one that really means the most to you?
