Fellow graphic designer here. I landed on Joy too, and seeing this video totally reassured me that I found the right thing too! I was pleasantly surprised to see the CSS option too :)
Thanks for the tip. I first found out about withjoy back in 2018 from a friend's wedding and upon checking again, this time for my wedding, I found that it really is far better than zola and theknot.
I'm building our wedding website on WordPress and am loving it. :) Yes, I know you have to have a lot more technical knowledge than with one of these options, but as a techie (but someone very rusty with writing all my code from scratch) that wanted a specific look and feel, and to have a richer content and design experience, it was the only option that felt right for me. With all the different templates and Gutenberg blocks and such you only have to stretch the techie skills some of the time. Joy looks like a great option for those who don't want all that faff though! :)
Thanks for sharing your experience Taheerah!! Totally with you about having the most control hehe. Glad WordPress is working out for you. Good luck with wedding planning 💃
As a designer myself (and currently planning my wedding) THIS is the exact video I was looking for! So thank you. Also, howdy neighbor! I'm a fellow San Diegan :)
Thank you so much for this confirmation! ☺️ I randomly came across withJoy and INSTANTLY felt represented! They had a black couple dancing on the intro page. Literally the first thing you see! The other sites didn’t even have ONE non-white couple. I know it’s not something others would think about, but think if you went to a site that was the opposite, you’d notice. This video made me know that my hunch was right and that’s the perfect site to plan my wedding on. Thank You! ❤
OH I did, I forgot which one, but it was like mixed race, and gay couples, (Nothing Wrong with that) But it didn't even show all black couples or all white couples, Which has to be the most common couples in America,.
Awesome video! Thank you for sharing your perspective on the four platforms. I’d love to see what you come up with in regards to designing your own invitations :)
Fellow graphic designer here, but about 2 years later joy has significantly limited the customizability they once had, I found it similarly limiting like your experience with the knot and Zola
Oh nooo that's a bummer to hear 😣 I found The Knot and Zola to be really hard to work with so hopefully Joy is still better in that regard but I haven't used their platform in a while of course.
Hi Alexa! This was a very insightful video to watch - I just completed a UX bootcamp and it’s a dream of mine to work at wedding-related companies like The Knot and Zola as a Product Designer. Thank you for sharing us your thoughts in great details!
OMG it would be so fun right?! I'd definitely check out careers at Joy -- I think it would be a super fun and innovative company to work at. Although -- I bet Zola and The Knot could benefit from some good design work 💪 Glad to hear you enjoyed the video!!
@@HelloImAlexa for sure, I didn’t even know of Joy until I watched this video! I think I was focused on Zola and The Knot because I’m located in NYC. So glad to have come across another wedding-related company through you!
Hmmm I'm personally not a huge fan of the minted websites but I've only used them / seen them as a wedding guest. From what I remember I tried to look more into their website builder but you have to pay to have one so I didnt look into it further. Not sure what your fiancé's reasonings may be - the two options due offer similar but different sort of features from my understanding as well. Good luck!
Oh hmmm I haven't heard of that one so I just looked it up! TBH I'm not very impressed with the templates on their site - they look at par with the competitors and you have to pay for guest management tools 🤔 Just browsing their website though! Perhaps I could look more in depth and do a vid on it.
I feel like you should have should a preview of the website or something. You talked about it and showed the back end but didn’t show us the results. It would have been nice to see what joy is capable of
Yeah I gotchu! I am feeling a bit private about our website right now since it has a bunch of private information about our wedding on it and we haven't had our wedding yet. I'll def consider a follow up video once it's over and appreciate the feedback!
Hi!! I’ve found Joy’s guest management tool to be super great. Yes to uploading spreadsheets with guest info. I believe for letters, they partner with a company that will automatically address each envelope. So far, we’ve sent digital save the dates which was through the guest management tool that was super easy. And I don’t believe I’ve seen a seating arrangement tool but i would love that! I could see them doing something like that soon. Hope that helps!
Hm, interesting question! Since I am not doing freelance design work right now I don't think I can best answer that question. I would likely charge in-line with my standard rates at a per project basis.

Don't know most of these term, ie css, platforms, link out,etc
What do you think about Minted? We are in between WithJoy and my creative director finace is in love with Minted.

Hi Alexa. Have you tried appy couple? It's not a free service but would be nice to hear some thoughts on it.
Oh hmm, I haven't heard of that one yet. I'll look into it and think about making more videos about wedding websites!
Have you checked out Wedsites? Would love to hear your thoughts!

Congrats! im new here 💙💙💙
So you contacted all of these services and offered them to make a video promotion and only Joy accepted… how much did they pay you?
lol no - and I wasn’t paid for this video.
and what about google pages? i know many that do it there and more customizable
I’ve never tried that! Interesting idea though

Does Joy allow you to upload my spreadsheet of guest addresses, automatically address each envelope, and aid with seating arrangements at tables?

How much would you charge for a wedding website?
Hm, interesting question! Since I am not doing freelance design work right now I don't think I can best answer that question. I would likely charge in-line with my standard rates at a per project basis.
What template did you use?
I chose: Single page, Rustic Forest (although I started out with "blank"), and Calistoga for fonts
