Hey Matt, all the best wishes in the new year. I'm wondering if you can enlighten me on something that you've probably never been asked, but maybe have an answer to. I'm wondering if one can experience permanent hair loss if they press on their scalp a little bit too hard (with their fingers) for 5-10 seconds at a time. I know it sounds like a weird question, but I recently had craniofacial surgery and developed scar tissue along some areas of my scalp so I use quite a bit of force and push down on these spots to try to "flatten the bumps". It has been working, but I'm worried that excessive pressure on the underlying hair follicles will be damaged. I've been applying pressure on my scalp for 5 months now and haven't experienced any telogen effluvium or shedding which is a relief but I'm worried I'm playing with fire. I guess an equivalent scenerio to mine would be whether people who do headstands (where all your weight is localized to the top of your skull) are at risk of damaging their follicles as well. If you're not sure about this, would you be able recommend a doctor who might be able to shed some insight? Really hoping to get to the bottom of this before I irreparably ruin my mane. Thank you for your time, and happy new years once again!

great video as always Matt thanks for sharing, how consistent have you been with micro needling during this time?
During the last 6 months I was very consistent. Every 10-14 days 1.5mm needle
Matt if Topical goes systemic to a point is it safe to assume if you apply to hairline only you would get full coverage of head? I just went on topical after 2 years of oral and I'm currently doing .25 mg of oral 2 times a week on top of topical everyday. What is your opinion?
Hi nice video!
One question, how often did you take oral finasteride before getting side effects? Did you do it like Dr. Bhatti recommends 1mg on alternate days with a 15 day break every 3 months?
Thanks for sharing! Commenting to help with the algorithm! :)
A lot of what you’re describing exactly me. I never had issues with libido. I am 38 years old now and stop taking topical and oral finasteride a couple years ago. I was off and on for several years since 25. I also got off minoxidil as it wasn’t working anymore. I didn’t lose any more hair luckily. I eat super super healthy and exercise five days a week. I take just a couple supplements. I don’t have any data to support this, but it seems topical Alezic acid with vitamin B 3 and 5 has helped me maintain. I’m a lot more goal driven off finasteride and a lot more positive outlook on my life and in general and a lot more relaxed not as anxious. If I do lose my hair, I just don’t care anymore. Health is more important. I got detail blood work when I was on finasteride and it was OK but some things like Albumin were high. While off finasteride now my bloodwork is perfect. I had low blood pressure at times that made me tired when on minox and finasteride as well. Now off the drugs my energy is very high even at 38, rarely get tired and more physically active. Blood pressure is great
What is topical Alezic acid with vitamin B 3 and 5? Do you buy it over the counter?
I’m so confused, it seem all treatments are a gamble?
Some work for some others works for others.
I just don’t know what to do.
Vitamin supplements won't do shit for hairloss, just in case anybody think this will solfe their hairloss...
How do you manage to track your hair loss when using different medications and protocols with out loosing ground .when for example a lot of the medicine takes months to see results and months to notice a decline when changing meds

One question sir, why did you pick 0.025% instead of 0.005% fenstride, which the more safe and can be use with more ml. I want to start using it and I don't know which consetration is best. Please if anyone knows reply to me. Thanks in advance.
Hi Matt. I am 17 months on fin(diffuse thinner) and few months ago added a Rosemary oil a few times a week. No min, just biotin and some shampoos. A months ago started seeing a wellus like hairs all over my scalp, terminal hairs destroyed by dht, small and colourless that werent there before.I am very happy about this but my question is would they grow and maybe become terminal again? I guess it can go aither way but would love to hear your opinion.
Can you please do a video on lighting and how to take photos that give a more reliable indication of your hair? You are right about bathroom lighting and sunlight if you have darker hair.
New years gift!
Sir is that normal to shed 2-3 fine and thin hair in 2-3 time combing to 7-8 normal hairfall?
Topical finasteride (0.25) with minoxidil (8.0) has worked great for me. I also microneedle. I was afraid of the oral form so I went topical and haven't felt any side effects. I'd say oral is good if your hair loss is very accelerated but if you have thinning hair and still visible, topical is a great alternative.

Hey Matt. Been on fin 1mg for 10+ years. So started in my early 30s I'm in 42 now. Around the 40 year mark, noticed decrease in libido. More specifically it came in periods of time, had high libido months and lower libido months... One year ago went to 0.5mg when the libido was lower and this works fine! So I'm basically cycling between doses atm, which seems to do the trick 😊 I did have pretty high libido during my 20's, 30's and frequently still have peak periods. I guess it helps having high natural libido when using fin. That's why lots of guys struggle I guess... Anyways, keep up the good fight!
Dude, it’s because you’re 40. Doubt it’s the Fin
Are you using the topical from Darwin? The Trichosol one?
Nice vid Matt, I think in coming years topical will continue to gain much more traction. There is lack of a topical fin only solutions online, most are mixed with minoxidil. Also, what’s your current hair loss stack to date? Would be good to get an update as your always testing around with your protocol

I would really like to know where a reputable, non-scamming place is to buy a good, reliable Derma/Microneedling Pen. I hear a lot of websites that sell Dr. Pen are scams.
I live in Canada, and I would like to invest in a Derma/Microneedling pen, just not sure where to look!
Any help would be much appreciated!
You second hair transplant was it hard as the first one ?
I know this has nothing to do with this video but you seem to be the best one to answer a question that i have. I have recently been diagnosed with androgenic alopecia. I am an avid gym goer and fitness enthusiast. I dont use supplements. I would never consider touching any sort of steroid or even creatine. However, i do a lot of weight training and hiit cardio which both raise testosterone levels, which i know can be converted to dht and promote hair loss. If im taking finasteride, do you think id be safe to continue lifting weights and doing hiit cardio and consequently raising my levels of testosterone without losing more hair because of suppression of 5AR due to my finasteride use?
Yes carry on, testosterone is not DHT and therefore a higher T from exercise will not effect your hair loss.
Do you really feel less mental side effects or do you just make yourself believe that because it's the only option left
I'm really interested if the switch made a big change in mental health
I take 1mg every second day. First month. Notice small libido but now I am totally fine. 3 months.
So you said you got low libido on oral fin and now since youre on topical has that sode effect gotten better or worse?
Does a hair transplant with good healthy lifestyle can last forever ?
Will using powder wax make hair look more dense

When you say mental well-being are you referring to anxiety? Or what exact sides did you have?
In my case I would describe it best as unusual paranoid thoughts. But anxiety would be an even more serious consequence of those..
Hey! I hope you see this comment!
I have been using 1.25mg of finasteride and 50mg/ml minoxidil for about 2 years with great effect. My hair was at its peak after about 1,5years and I was really happy.
For the last couple of weeks I have noticed that I am starting to lose alot of hair again, which I havent experienced since the first shedding (almost two years ago). Should I be worried? Or is this just another «shedding» fase?
Hope to hear from you.

You seem to be a good one to ask about this since your into fitness as well. Have you been able to do weight lifting and anaerobic exercises and not see any hair loss while on finasteride. Ive heard that doing anaerobic exercises could cause more hair loss even while on finasteride and i just wanted your opinion
If you don’t do anaerobic exercise your health will suffer severely over time.
Bit of a silly question really …
Hi , will 0.5 compare to 1mg every other day give me similar results of finastride?
You need to look into dosing and how much of it goes systemic. Even at low dosages finasteride has the same DHT inducing effect. Dont remember a term for that. Check for data on google
using oral finasteride for 20 years and never had any issues with my well-being, inner- & outside, never discovered a loss of sexual drive & anything like that. I switched on micro dosing of course (0,5mg a day) but reading so much about why topical finasteride is not (and can't be) that effective, I won't switch to topical. It's more expensive also. But I hope you will keep all of you hair of course!
Good for you, I on the other hand had all the sexual side effects. Tried eod, lowered dosage and tried topical at 0.1% still didnt help. It was all ok seperate occasions with several years of break in-between. Looking into topical at 0.005%, but scared after experience all of the sides.
Why do the people on oral finasteride for years always shit on topical. Not tryna be rude but you’re spreading misinformation. There have been multiple studies at this point showing topical lowers scalp DHT same as oral and increases hair count the same
@@wasteman3259 Why do some people who are obviously fans of Topical take a completely normal personal experience report written in completely normal words so personally that they call it “shit on Topical”? None of my words allow for this ridiculous assessment. You don't want to be "rude"? Then leave it, because it's you. In addition, you show a deficient understanding of the text because I am clearly talking about hearsay and not about facts, which could be the only "misinformation" you judge. Furthermore topical is far more expensive because of the way it has to be produced. That is also no 'misinformation'
You're talking to an adult. So act like that too.
Yes, a few Studies suggest that topical finasteride may be similarly effective as oral tablets. However, it is acknowledged that far further studies are required to confirm the long-term effects, safety and cost-effectiveness of the treatment compared to 1 mg finasteride tablets. Because DHT is also produced in the liver and transported to the scalp via the bloodstream, it is possible that topical finasteride may not be able to suppress DHT in the body as well as oral finasteride. From this point of view, there could be some difference in the effect between the two treatments, but further studies are needed to confirm this. And that is the point. That's why Topical has not yet been included in official recommendations.
@@AlijandroI OK. I'm sorry to hear that.
I can only say from my experience that from the beginning I didn't think about side effects at all and focused on them, because this moment of stress alone can trigger this dysfunction, as many have already experienced. This is also reported by the finisteride expert with whom Matt once had a long conversation, who reported that the clinical evidence of side effects from oral does not correspond to the number of people who report experiencing side effects, or the other way around, that the amount of people who claim to suffer from side effects could not be confirmed in the endless scientific clinical studies that were carried out in the USA and then again in Europe before approval there, so that most of these experiences can be traced back to causes other than actual ones finasteride. Unfortunately I forgot the name of this expert, but take a scroll through Matt's videos. It was just an interview for a whole episode. Super interesting. Maybe you won't find a way, I hope so, because Finasteride 1% is generally really super efficient.
@@dandelgado11You don't want to suppress DHT in the body, only the scalp. Which has been proven to be reduced the same amount or more with topical direct to scalp as oral.
Hey Matt, 25 year old guy here. I am curious as to if your facial hair continued to develop/thicken while being on finasteride… the last few years it doesn’t seem like my facial hair has developed at all and I am not sure if it is due to the suppression of DHT or just simply the age I am at.

Also about the libido boost. Yes I also felt it. But I also felt I going away while being off fin. I guess it’s just the body balancing it out.
That said for me being 45 when I had my last fin break gave me a bit of teenage libio feeling. And I remember this feeling was already gone at 25 before I started fin so maybe it’s just the contrast feeling.
Anyway I never really felt I had any libio issues on fin anyway

First time I started oral Finasteride 12 years ago, at first 3 months everything was great - a lot of new hair - I thought that will be my solution... But after that "honeymoon" period, my hair started shedding as crazy, after full year hair was so so thin it was crazy so I stopped. Now Im trying again just with topical version 0.025% but I will add alfatradiol - not because of 5AR inhibition but because of mild estrogen effects. So we will see... If someone is interested - I can share my experience...

Minoxidil does not stop hair loss. I can thicken and prolong an aged phase. That is
Interesting video. I still want to understand how the mechanism of topical Finasteride works. I’m almost convinced that the efficacy of topical Fin is due to the fact that there is still systemic absorption from applying topical fin. Which means that there is still a possibility of potential side affects from topical fin. Perhaps there is a psychological effect that taking topical fin bypasses the phobia of side effects and the individual doesn’t think about it that much. The point that I’m making is that I don’t see that much of a difference between oral and topical with the exception of a minimal change in efficacy and side effect profile. Oral is superior due to higher concentrations of serum DHT being suppressed and topical having less efficacy due to less DHT suppression. Which can explain why less side effects. But the fact that it’s applied topically makes no difference. There will always be systemic absorption from the product.
Of course there is always systemic absorption in everything, but its much less and the solution will stay mostly on the area protecting your follicules.
Oral finasteride will get 100% inside your body, fully absorbed by the blood and processed by your internal organs.
Something applied externaly always has less absorption than a pill, that doesnt mean it will work worst,in this case can be even better, you dont need to lower your overall dht like the pill does, you just need to lower it in your scalp.
Right but you can also titrate the medication and take less of the pill form and accomplish the same goal. Topical fin is much more expensive because it has to be compounded. You have to apply it all over the scalp. And the consistency of the top product is questionable. You have to purchase purchase it from a good compounding pharmacy. in my opinion i think topical fin is overhyped . if your conserned about the side effects just take less of the oral form
And I don’t think you understand what I’m coming from. Your saying that finasteride works better on the scalp because of its local absorption. But the only way for the active ingredient of finasteride to work is to become sythesized in the liver . Can you explain to me and everyone how that works by applying an active ingredient directly to the scalp. Clearly the real reason topical works is because of “small” systemic absorption of the active ingredient then passes through the liver then 5 alpha enzymes become inhibited , thus reducing DHT.

It is similar in terms of efficiency and lowers the side effects, you can google it...they even made hair counts.
And you dont need to go to a pharmacy and ask them to make the solution, there are already brands making it and pharmacies have them available,at least here in europe,of course you will pay more then a generic made in a pharmacy but you really dont need to search for a good pharmacy to make it if you are worried about the quality.
Being topical doesnt mean its worst,i give you a quick example, most studies dont give more efficiency to oral minoxidil, most say that the topical solution works better...the bottom line its pretty simple,it doesnt matter how you take it,it matters how effective the drug is being delivered to solve the specific problem.
If you ask me i prefer to lower the dht on my scalp only instead of lowering it in my whole body, that will mess the values of my hormones and the numbers of DHT that my body wants to produce in my age...in my opinion the future is a solution and never a pill,im not seeing a way of overcome the dht issue or a pill that will simply protect your follicules,i see them making an effective drug/injection that will protect the follicules but applied in a topical form or locally with injections.
@@Aofnaples2006-yt6jt Finasteride ist indeed metabolized in the liver, but the therapeutic activity is due to the parent compound, Finasteride itself.. the objective is to lower DHT in the tissue not the blood.
Ouch
I personally think the hair is slightly worst then before with more thinning in the crown that you can see in every photo. Topical finasteride will never be as effective which makes sense due to the potency and the fact you have to reach the area required, and the product needs to reach the blood stream which is harder too. It’s also a very new thing with little studies and at least in the UK not approved as yet, and people just taking at their own risk. I think Finasteride reminds me the whole creatine situation… Most studied supplement that everyone knows it works, but always someone comes out saying causes this and that. And to finalise my long comment lol, if you are trying to stop your body doing its natural thing, you have to be prepared to deal with the potential hormonal changes and differences in your body. In my opinion, if you are active and follow a healthy lifestyle, and most importantly if you have the right positive mindset, you will never ever get any side effects on finasteride.
One more thing. 11:38 and 11:51 are same day images, no before and after results. Forgot the descriptions. Yeah I also think that the crown is looking slightly more light. Will be monitoring the situation further.
@@letsgethair I'm all about this channel and love what you are doing. Im an actor and I had 2 hair transplants so i have been trying things myself, and im always on the look for the best solution possible. Im not criticizing in any way, but just trying to be honest and help you and the channel. All the best, and i will keep watching the latest stuff as usual. Take care bro.
@@BrunoEnrique but it gets in the system later, so it should have possible effect as oral.
@@BrunoEnriquealso getting higher topical dosage might make crown more dense.
I am a very fit/active 39 year old. I'm quite muscular and lean, and i've been working out since high school. I hardly ever consume processed foods, I meditate, I don't drink and I have a successful career. But above all, i'm grounded and pride myself on my positive mindset. However, I've tried finasteride on two seperate occasions now and while the results I obtained were absolutely incredible - both times I unfortunately experienced side effects. If only your 'opinion' was true, Bruno. Sigh.
Maybe i would try it lol
LOL, until recently I hadn't realized that Mario updated his favorite way to tackle ED and it's a relief! Although what he previously suggested was pretty good, it was a real pain to follow... I just go'ogled the latest in Volpstein's Erections at Will, it's so much simpler and potent now!

@@miguelpereira1262 I'm taking finasteride 3 mg per week I'm 23
Your hairline is still ceap
this whole oral finasteride phobia is bizarre. like 90% of males over 70 years old take 5mg of proscar and they have no issues
Yeah, but on the other hand they don't have libido etc.
70 year olds don't have to perform routinely, mine is never as hard it could be. My Girlfriend complains the same and wants me off finasteride.
Yeah silly comment
@@SzymoniX005 not sure, but none of them complain of "brain fog"
Allot of guys on the internet pretend to be fine on fin with no issues. Most guys out there hang arround, play videogames, watch netflix, jerk off on porn and just chillin. How do they know that there dicks are really working correctly on 100 procent?. How do you know that there mental state is fine ? Even People who dont take fin with mental issues dont even know that they have some, but they think they are totally fine. There are heavy overweight people out there who think they are healthy, but they are not...
You don't look like your paranoid person or with some one with anxiety.
No, but somehow such thoughts creep in more than usual and it is quite weird because I rarely have these. That's why I was also analyzing this aspect. Of course the thoughts are not as intense so they would be altering my personality or behavior in a major way.
Worse tbh
