Bill is a sellout and looking for TV attention. Tucker is supposed to fight with Bill for drama. They're both just trying to generate attention. Bill's right, that saying climate prediction is super volatile. We can barely predict the current daily weather, but we can see the skews. Determining our direct correlation to specifics in climate is actually kinda tough given so many outside factors. Even looking at historical data as well as political games show all sorts of funk that could alter our current perceived impact. TLDR; the only thing interesting going on here is that it's news drama for the sake of click baits.

Except I doubt that Bill Nye himself reached out to the station to do an interview. They, most likely, reached out to him. So, if anyone is to blame for a poorly represented argument, it's the news network. However, they had an agenda to push, IE that climate change has little/nothing to do with humans and so they found someone willing to represent the argument that would fall short. Bill Nye isn't specialized in climate study. He has merely done "some" studying of it and drew conclusions. As we all do when we research something for a short period of time. The station prepared questions for Bill to answer full well knowing that he most likely would not be able to regurgitate numbers and statistical data. If anything, this showed Bill's tolerance for being lambasted in front of million of viewers and he took it in stride. It showed character.

We need to know this if we have any way of preventing a future ice age or massive pole shifts. If it's settled, wouldn't the data show that? Call it Rate X. Within the past few decades, Rate X has now accelerated... lets call the current Rate Y. Millions of years of Rate X versus a few decades of Rate Y. Whats the difference between the two time periods that has caused X to become Y after millions of years of being X? Human activity.

As a scientific researcher and member of the scientific community, I feel bill nye could have done a better job at explaining. Sometimes you gotta explain these things in layman’s terms to other people because most people don’t understand it. The fact is the question tucker asked has no straight answer. The climate change rate without human intervention is not easy to quantify. There can be a thousand factors associated with it. Bill nye could have clarified that. In stead they went after each other.
Bill Nye is a TV scientist, the way Telly Savalas was a TV policeman. A real scientist would have come up with graphs and other hard data and Bill Nye provided none.

@@wurstbrot1772please do some actual research. We could estimate it pretty well, but it is impossible to predict exactly what would happen. The climate is a chaotic system (look up the double pendulum and how even a tiny difference in input can completely change how it swings, this is an example of a chaotic system). To simplify, the main changes would be due to solar cycles (11 year periods of hot and cold due to solar activity), slight changes in the earth’s orbit and a yearly fluctuations due to different weather patterns (Look up the el nino southern oscillation), also volcanic eruptions have a slight cooling effect (can see some dips in annual temp due to this, it’s quite interesting. If we extrapolate these effects (extrapolation is taking data and estimating what it would be like in the future, it’s very simple, you can look it up, children are taught it in high/middle school (uk/us I think)) they would be very small compared to the observed change over the past few decades. Just look at any graph and see the increase since the industrial revolution. The evidence is there, the evidence is clear, all you need to do is look into it. You can even look at scientific papers on the subject (use google scholar, although I’d recommend only looking at the abstract and conclusion, they use a lot of technical jargon, science and maths that is difficult for non specialists to understand. But if evidence doesn’t interest you, I ask you this. Who has more to gain from lying, Tucker, a rich right wing presenter who relies on support from his climate denying base, or scientists who are looking at evidence to try to answer a question. You seriously don’t think that if scientists found climate change wasn’t real, they wouldn’t report on it? They would. I hope you look into it. This mindset is why we have antivaxers (the autism paper had falsified data, and was produced by a conman paid to diacredit the mmr vaccine so a company could sue them. He also released his own vaccine after releasing the paper on gut disease causing autism, caused by vaccines. Bill can recognize scientific consensus and change his views accordingly. Over 99% of climate scientists agree that humans burning fossil fuels is causing climate change. And I will appeal to their authority because they have spent their entire careers studying the earth's climate. And at the end of the day, these are just two men talking about climate change on TV. The sad thing about this interview is Tucker is using the "Discredit the opposition" debate tactic. This is a classic way to try to shut down a debate when you can't compete with the other person. Hopefully some people who watch this guy on a regular basis pick up on this. Tucker is semi right about the fact that Bill isn't a climate scientist (He's an Engineer/ science educator ). Either way he is qualified to come on this show and speak his viewpoint of climate change. It doesn't matter what field you may have a degree in if you go to any debate prepared with factual information and portray that information correctly you are qualified to debate some one of similar education levels. As an example 2 people can debate which year of a muscle car is the superior model. But one of the people says "You drive a mini van you aren't qualified to tell me which is better" while this may be true the other guy may actually work at a repair shop and work on the cars. He may not own one but he is very knowledgeable on the subject.

I believe what Nye was trying to get to during the earlier part of the interview is that Climate change, while it has been a constant factor over time,( with a few exceptions) has been gradual in it's appearance. Currently however, the heating of earth's atmosphere has occurred at an increasing and consistent rate due to man-made causes, like an increased amount of CO2 emissions, the loss/damaging of carbon sinks and air pollution to name a few. TLDR; human activity has increased the rate at which temperature rises by amplifying the earth's otherwise natural warming effect. but that's my understanding of it on a smaller scale.

...There are many scientists who do not agree with Nye. In fact a prominent scientist on the left just recently said he no longer believes the political rhetoric and understands that climate change is too complex to predict. He says as computer models become more and more sophisticated, the predictions become more and more unclear. Also, there are far more sides and angles related to the issue. It doesn’t even matter if it’s coming. India and China are all that matter. And China may do something (or maybe not) but it will certainly wait until America goes bankrupt farting around with the Green New Deal (while it continues to build coal-fired power plants). There are so many sides to this issue that people don’t even think about. Look at Venezuela, a far left socialist country. How much do they care about climate change? Zero! fluton đubran if you really want to know the answer all you would need to do is look at charts that show how much sea level water has risen over the years human has existed. Same can be done for deforestation, compare levels of CO2 before and after humans existed. ofc we don’t have data that goes that far back in time but we have estimates. But it is clear that all these things that I mentions(but there’s is a lot more btw) are connected and contribute to the change in climate. It’s all common sense humans and technology contributes 100% to climate change since because we produced so much waste and pollute our ecosystem.
In short: the climate change and rate that we are experiencing now due to human activity may never have happened without that human activity. If it would have happened anyway, the rate would have been at least tens of thousands of times slower and in such a way that species and humans would have time to adapt or even reverse it.

Bill's right, that saying climate prediction is super volatile. We can barely predict the current daily weather, but we can see the skews. Determining our direct correlation to specifics in climate is actually kinda tough given so many outside factors. Even looking at historical data as well as political games show all sorts of funk that could alter our current perceived impact.

Except I doubt that Bill Nye himself reached out to the station to do an interview. They, most likely, reached out to him. So, if anyone is to blame for a poorly represented argument, it's the news network. However, they had an agenda to push, IE that climate change has little/nothing to do with humans and so they found someone willing to represent the argument that would fall short. Bill Nye isn't specialized in climate study. He has merely done "some" studying of it and drew conclusions. As we all do when we research something for a short period of time. The station prepared questions for Bill to answer full well knowing that he most likely would not be able to regurgitate numbers and statistical data. If anything, this showed Bill's tolerance for being lambasted in front of million of viewers and he took it in stride. It showed character.

Whats the difference between the two time periods that has caused X to become Y after millions of years of being X? Human activity.

As a scientific researcher and member of the scientific community, I feel bill nye could have done a better job at explaining. Sometimes you gotta explain these things in layman’s terms to other people because most people don’t understand it. The fact is the question tucker asked has no straight answer. The climate change rate without human intervention is not easy to quantify. There can be a thousand factors associated with it. Bill nye could have clarified that. In stead they went after each other.
Bill Nye is a TV scientist, the way Telly Savalas was a TV policeman. A real scientist would have come up with graphs and other hard data and Bill Nye provided none.

We could estimate it pretty well, but it is impossible to predict exactly what would happen. The climate is a chaotic system (look up the double pendulum and how even a tiny difference in input can completely change how it swings, this is an example of a chaotic system).
To simplify, the main changes would be due to solar cycles (11 year periods of hot and cold due to solar activity), slight changes in the earth’s orbit and a yearly fluctuations due to different weather patterns (Look up the el nino southern oscillation), also volcanic eruptions have a slight cooling effect (can see some dips in annual temp due to this, it’s quite interesting.
If we extrapolate these effects (extrapolation is taking data and estimating what it would be like in the future, it’s very simple, you can look it up, children are taught it in high/middle school (uk/us I think)) they would be very small compared to the observed change over the past few decades. Just look at any graph and see the increase since the industrial revolution. The evidence is there, the evidence is clear, all you need to do is look into it.
You can even look at scientific papers on the subject (use google scholar, although I’d recommend only looking at the abstract and conclusion, they use a lot of technical jargon, science and maths that is difficult for non specialists to understand.
But if evidence doesn’t interest you, I ask you this. Who has more to gain from lying, Tucker, a rich right wing presenter who relies on support from his climate denying base, or scientists who are looking at evidence to try to answer a question. You seriously don’t think that if scientists found climate change wasn’t real, they wouldn’t report on it? They would.
I hope you look into it. This mindset is why we have antivaxers (the autism paper had falsified data, and was produced by a conman paid to diacredit the mmr vaccine so a company could sue them. He also released his own vaccine after releasing the paper on gut disease causing autism, caused by vaccines. But I do think there is a reason Bill is smarter than Tucker, it's because Bill can do a very simple, but at the same time difficult thing which Tucker cannot. Bill can recognize scientific consensus and change his views accordingly. Over 99% of climate scientists agree that humans burning fossil fuels is causing climate change. And I will appeal to their authority because they have spent their entire careers studying the earth's climate. They know what they are talking about and if you think you understand the climate better than them as a non expert then I'd read a paper written by David Dunning and Justin Kruger.
And at the end of the day, these are just two men talking about climate change on TV. Bill honestly didn't do that well in the debate because I have seen him debate against intellectuals and Bill definitely stands his own against them but against the science denying village idiot? The sad thing about this interview is Tucker is using the "Discredit the opposition" debate tactic. This is a classic way to try to shut down a debate when you can't compete with the other person. Hopefully some people who watch this guy on a regular basis pick up on this. Tucker is semi right about the fact that Bill isn't a climate scientist (He's an Engineer/ science educator ). Either way he is qualified to come on this show and speak his viewpoint of climate change. It doesn't matter what field you may have a degree in if you go to any debate prepared with factual information and portray that information correctly you are qualified to debate some one of similar education levels. As an example 2 people can debate which year of a muscle car is the superior model. But one of the people says "You drive a mini van you aren't qualified to tell me which is better" while this may be true the other guy may actually work at a repair shop and work on the cars. He may not own one but he is very knowledgeable on the subject.
Chase Eby regardless of whether he was "qualified" or not, its still a fact that global warming is real and that humans play a major role in that. His occupation was irrelevant to the content of the argument.

I believe what Nye was trying to get to during the earlier part of the interview is that Climate change, while it has been a constant factor over time,( with a few exceptions) has been gradual in it's appearance. Currently however, the heating of earth's atmosphere has occurred at an increasing and consistent rate due to man-made causes, like an increased amount of CO2 emissions, the loss/damaging of carbon sinks and air pollution to name a few. TLDR; human activity has increased the rate at which temperature rises by amplifying the earth's otherwise natural warming effect. but that's my understanding of it on a smaller scale.

In fact a prominent scientist on the left just recently said he no longer believes the political rhetoric and understands that climate change is too complex to predict. He says as computer models become more and more sophisticated, the predictions become more and more unclear. Also, there are far more sides and angles related to the issue. It doesn’t even matter if it’s coming. India and China are all that matter. And China may do something (or maybe not) but it will certainly wait until America goes bankrupt farting around with the Green New Deal (while it continues to build coal-fired power plants). There are so many sides to this issue that people don’t even think about. Look at Venezuela, a far left socialist country. How much do they care about climate change? Zero! fluton đubran if you really want to know the answer all you would need to do is look at charts that show how much sea level water has risen over the years human has existed. Same can be done for deforestation, compare levels of CO2 before and after humans existed. ofc we don’t have data that goes that far back in time but we have estimates. But it is clear that all these things that I mentions(but there’s is a lot more btw) are connected and contribute to the change in climate. It’s all common sense humans and technology contributes 100% to climate change since because we produced so much waste and pollute our ecosystem.
In short: the climate change and rate that we are experiencing now due to human activity may never have happened without that human activity. If it would have happened anyway, the rate would have been at least tens of thousands of times slower and in such a way that species and humans would have time to adapt or even reverse it.
