Originally published in October 2012, this video was part of a series of videos we conducted that compares characteristics of the Duroflex Joint with other leading joints in the off road industry. This video is the first - comparing the Flex of the Duroflex Joint with that of the Johnny Joint, the Teraflex Monster and the typical Clevite.

I'm very impressed with your kits, and I find your price of the game changer fair unlike other kits which probably don't flex nearly as much asking over $6000 for a fancy looking long arm. The real truth to flexing is the spring travel, and end joint flexibility, not long arms and 5 inches of lift. I see other companies charging $1000 more for 1 more inch of lift which is only a different length spring when going from 3.5 to 4.5.
awesome flex! any chance you can send me one for a live demo on my channel?
Did you ever get the control arm you asked for?
That was very helpful. Thank you.
You're welcome.
So would the other joints binding on the control arm mounts fatigue and weaken the mounts?
Great question! No, not necessarily. By default the stock mounts can handle binding because that is what most control arms do. But there have been extreme cases where stock mounts rip off because of extreme articulation with binding control arms - most notably axle side mounts. So anything is possible.
Use the same joint on both ends.. and also arm geometry specs. I've had JJ's on a few vehicles with minimal lubing (twice) for 70k miles and no issues.
Using the same joint on both ends of the arms on the flex test would have not changed the outcome of the test as it was set up - since it's goal was to measure the single joint flex. Glad you had a good experience with the JJ.
I have a complete set of the metal cloak control arms, and I honestly think they flex more than most of the others because of the smaller head of the joint. Taking up less space in the control arm bracket, they can actually use more of the flex in their bushing.
All by design. ;-)
If I wanted rear control arms for JK exactly 2.5” longer than u normally make them is that something metalcloak would build??
Unfortunately no, we had to move away from doing custom products long ago. However, you can buy the weld rings and the joints individually for your own build projects.
Understandable. By any chance could a lengthened threaded rod end be ordered?
what about in comparison to the Synergy setup they claim 30 out of their joints looks like they use them on each end of their control arms..?
The joint that Synergy uses (which is the same used by several companies now) entered the industry a couple years after we did this video. As a note, the 30 degrees mentioned is total possible misalignment - we claim 34 degrees total misalignment. This video shows how much you get in a JK Control Arm bracket.
Just curious but why not test a heim with misalignment?
Simply because heims are designed for a different market segment. Your average JK suspension system designed for daily driving and off road use does not contain heim joints on the control arms.
because this is a scientific flex test for a commercial
not a commercial flex test for science ;)
Is this duroflex joint is available in india
No, we do not currently have Dealers in India. It is only available through our website Metalcloak.com
What about the dual durometer joint that synergy uses that claims 30 degrees misalignment
This video was done long before Synergy and other suspension manufacturers started using the Red Ranger bushing. At some point, we may update with some of the newer offerings that our Duroflex joint have inspired.
@@metalcloak I just curious if the DDB is any good compared to the joints mc uses
@@sbranham86 we have not done any testing on the Red Ranger bushing (aka Dual Durometer, GIIRO, etc)... yet. ;-)
@@metalcloak either way in my opinion, I think that mc has the best balance of durability and flex from their joints. Imo I would think anything after 20 degrees then your bushing housing would hit the ears on the control arm mount and I'm sure someone would have to make the bushing housing a lot thinner to get it to clear past 20 degrees anyways. Mine sees daily driving more then trails anyways so I would be content with mc arms and bushings
@@sbranham86 Thank you!
Should've tried rough country flex joint
This video was done 8 years ago against the most significant players in the industry at the time. We will re-doing this video for the future and will again focus on the significant players in the flex-focused market.
Johnny joint doesn’t look centred in the bracket...
The joints are each installed into the bracket with no other spacers. Each joint has no choice but to be centered.
Fair enough, an observation from my perspective. A shot of setup would have eliminated this unknown in my opinion. Your product looks like a quality part from what I can surmise from a video clip.
Thank you. We did this video in 2012, and as you can see, it was done as simply as possible. There has been talk about re-doing it for the modern day and with the several new joint products now on the market.
the body is narrower = doesnt hit the bracket as soon as the wider body joints. notice the effort required to hold the duroflex at that angle? that is a built in bind that a panhard would have to fight constantly or artificially added spring rate in roll.
great marketing job on these joints as they seem to be popular oout of the gate, I just cant figure why people like them
mikeyjock Sorry, not quite sure what your question is. As a note, these joints are not designed for a panhard/track bar, they are specifically engineered for control arms. - Matson
Notice How They Don't Test A Rock Krawler Joint!
Wouldn't have been fair to test their old joint and we couldn't get a new one at the time of the test. Doh!
Too bad the rubber inserts on these joints are already starting to tear after a couple years.
Will, we have not seen any tears or failures. Are you talking from your personal experience or someone you know?
Will, we replied to your post a month ago, can you share any more info or just making a comment for comment's sake?
The thread was on JKFreaks. You replied on 3/2/14. I hardly believe that another joint cause your's to fail. Interesting theory, though.
