I love this unofficial Money Pit series
Forget money pit. This is a whole cash chasm.
You must be poor if you think this is a money pit, 😂 it's not even at $100k and you are saying "pit"💀 must suck to be that poor to have to think that way
... unofficial? The playlist for this Civic is literally called Money Pit...
I mean if it ends up cheaper and faster than a new civic is it a money pit? 🤔😂
@@frostybytes6835 What are the odds it's neither? We need today's sponsor, Draftkings, to come get action on this
I'm still baffled by the fact that they got a decent Civic for $500 at all.
Probably talked the seller down to 500 from a normal price
Same I been looking for months
Same that’s a 4K eg
Prob had the car laying around for some time and decided to make a series with it
RIGHT!!!????
The intake area on the old setup was 3318mm². Each opening on the new setup is 2827mm² for a total of 11310mm². The new intake's area is about 3.41 times larger than the old one. If it were a single opening, the circle would be have a diameter of 120mm, not 240mm as stated in the video.
exactly what i was thinking
This bugged me as well.
Thank you. Did the calculations my self before I came down here to find your coment and you're absolutly right
I am glad that someone did the math for me😂
I see. Numbers.
I love how Nolan always explains things after jobe. His uncertainty whilst re-explaining it before confidently convincing himself he understands before starting a job is too relatable 😂
So this is how you put into words😂
I’m just baffled why yal chose a civic. Garbage fart can.
@@RepentandbelieveinJesusChrist5shut up
5:28 A small correction
for diameter 65mm the cross sectional area= π × r² = π × (32.5 mm)² ≈ 3318 mm²
for diameter 60mm the cross sectional area = π × r² = π × (30 mm)² ≈ 2827.4 mm²
since there are 4 of them = 2827.4 mm² × 4 = 11309.6 mm²
so the effective diameter will be = 2 × √(A / π) = 2 × √(11309.6 / π) ≈ 120mm.
So it should be 120mm and not 240mm.
I was thinking the same thing, but thought that no one else would care
All that math to still be wrong. The cylinder intake openings and flow rate are all that matter here. The cylinder head openings were not ported so that never actually changed. This manifold will flow a higher CFM though but that can’t be expressed by the diameter of any openings. So it’s all moot.
Edit to say the math is right, but it doesn’t matter and should never have been a topic in the first place
Math make brain hurt bring back the stu stu stu and vrrrrrrrooooooooom noises

I was about to write that.
I love donut, over the years they have helped me understand I will never be able to afford anything they have 🙃
I feel that
Bro it's not hard, just don't have a 401k or any health insurance and no emergency fund money. Just max credit cards and 2 jobs. You can make it
all you gotta do is promote gambling to kids with 8 million subs!!!
Not with that attitude!!!!
@@von... Dude a kid cannot make a purchase on that website, what 8 year old has a credit card? Not to mention how would they create such an account without one???
0:27 i really hope the donut team editors are the highest paid people on the staff. Stuff like this always makes me smile and is aimed remarkably well at the target age of the audience.
Sucks that the "talent" (who we see) gets the $$. I agree that the editors make the episode, like a good actor with a bad director, the movie will flop without good a good edit.
My favorite donut content. Tbh, anything with Jobe in it is solid gold
This is basically the new Money Pit at this point, and i’m all here for it
240mm????? 😂
@@911marcus huh?

I love how they go through real world problems and share their frustrations and solutions so if anyone in the audience wants to try a similar setup they end up learning from this.
Im obsessed with watching these restoration videos of my all time favorite gen civic.
However...my mom and dad bought a 1998 2wd suburban ordered by them from the factory when i was 9. We called it the War Wagon.
In 2012 my mother gave it to her father, who passed away in 2022. And my grandmother gave it to me.
On one of its first trips with my family of five (while my then 11 year old dogged on its lack of features lol) the front passenger brake locked up. I was on a 55 mph road but managed to keep it steady, pulling over and realizing it now needed a full brake system restoration...for just under 1000 dollars.
The engine is tired, 219000. Trannys wierd...but i have to get it running...been sitting for a year for lack of funds. Its heartbreaking and i wish i could have it restored by people like you, the love of cars you have, and the care you put into this restoration of the civic...gives me hope ill get this family heirloom vehicle running and passed on to my ungrateful son one day...keep doing awesome guys
We've all dreamed of dumping good parts into random beaters lol. Love this unofficial series.
Dreamed? Heck, I come across those nearly daily.
There's no better way to make a sleeper.
@pedinhuh16 When I was 16, bought a 91' red fox body off a dude, it had hood pins, American Racing rims, looked badass.....however he blew the original motor and put a 4banger in it along the way. It was the opposite of a sleeper, I could only do burn out on wet grass, it was rather funny. Got GREAT gas mileage 🫠
@@DaLoveDonkey69420Best of both worlds then
Love it at 7:20 when Justin and Adam are talking about a chips packet while the others talk about the car😂
I wasnt sure if i was the only one who caught that lmao
Checking the macros. Making car gains and muscle gains lol
Lowkey becoming the greatest donut car😂😂😂
A custom hood grill for the ITB's would look sick, I hope they don't just do a cutout like they did for low car in the Z series
Real
They need to do an oem hood scoop from another manufacturer like TRD or Subaru or somethin along those lines
WRC Subi scoop right in the front and red neon inside 😈
5:30 its about the area of the intake, so the effective intake diameter is actually 120 mm due to the square relationship between diameter and area; 4x area = 2x diameter
Imagine a 240mm throttle body...
I almost understand what this means but would you mind rephrasing it for the dummies in the back? (def not me)
@@MIDA-Multi-Tool Area of a circle is radius squared multiplied by pi, πr².
For a 60mm throttle body that's 30²xπ=2,827.4mm² per 60mm throttle body, for a total of 11,309.7mm²
Now for an example 240mm throttle body we get 120² π = 45,238.9mm² 4x the area of the ITBs installed. They're really matching a 120mm throttle body with their ITBs.
@@FireCat005 ohh, I see. thank you!
@@MIDA-Multi-Tool I know it was already explained to you, but this might help others:
Take a 1x1 square. Now put 4 of those together. The resulting square is 2x2, not 4x4.
240mm intake is not equal to 60mm*4, just saying :)
The Difference is quiet big actually xD. 240mm would be 4x bigger than 4x60mm. Still great vid we did not come here for math but for Entertainment and one cute civic
Glad I was the only one that noticed that, someone in donut didn't pass elementary math class.
It hurt a lot hearing that
yeah i was like wtf? double the radius quadruple the surface... quadruple the radius and you octuple the surface...
it supposed to be a 120mm intake to equal 4x60mm...
@@Fr3ddyM3hrCurryquite
Might not sound like a lot but you wouldn't compare 65mm throttle to 240mm of hole ... surface area of a circle is based on radius squared. So its 65 compared to 4x60. The square area of a 240mm hole is 45,216sq mm and 4x60 holes = 11,304sq mm quite the difference :) crazy how much more area is in a circle as it grows in diameter! You could think of it more similarly to valves as 4 valves in a cylinder there is lots of contents around the valves, but the valves almost fill the cylinder diameter! Keep up the fun work guys!!
8:40 the old deck to the shins starts to hurt alot more north of 30 i tell ya
im gonna tell my kids these were the fast and furious cast
I'm gonna tell your kids they were adopted
Or just tell them the truth, that movie is based on South Cal culture made popular by the Chicanos. Or like the other guy said. Your kids are adopted 😂
I’m going to tell my kids these were the American Top Gear.

05:35 only instead of pointing out the math of the intake size, I want to play with that sick gaming rig, buddy looks like he's having a blast
I just picked up 2 Volvo s40 and electric power steering pumps each at $80 from my local junk yard. Their compatible with Hondas as long as you get the proper PTFE hoses and fittings. 3 wires total and an 80 amp circuit breaker! I recommend that route! It can literally be mounted anywhere!
Can't wait to hear that beast once it's dialed in. Loving this series on the Civic.
Hii
These videos are too short!!!! Lol I know it's a lot of work. I just can't wait until new videos come out. Thanks for the content Donut!
Gotta barely reach that ten minute mark lol

I am from Wales 🏴 and I’m such a huge fan of your videos. Love you guys at Donut, keep up the good work.
I have to remember that the donut crew are just normal guys who love working on cars. Thank you for making these videos and doing your best to find the solutions to make your cars awesome. Can't wait to see the tuning, the solution to the belt and seeing this car on the track!!!
Except they made a mistake, the individual 240 mm throttle body is actually about 4x in surface area compared to the 4x 60 mm throttle body.
I loved my hatchie ...damn old memories. I think i poured like 10k into it in upgrades but man it was the most fun ive ever had with a car. i would highly recommend a civic for anyone thinking about having a cool project. The parts can be cheap if you know where to go and theres TONS of info out there to help you with ANY problem you might have with it. Its a good way to learn about cars without being scared of not finding a solution.
There is a direct correlation between my enjoyment of these videos and the amount of goofing off Nolan, Jobe and the editors do. Never stop doing what you're doing fellas
it’s awesome how you explain what the parts are and what they do, a lot of this stuff can be difficult to learn on your own
This has been my favorite vehicle you guys worked on.
A special place in my heart for civics
Hondas are my favorite! Working on my 9th gen si as of now. Have seen subies and nissans and am glad to see a honda on donut too!
I'm mostly impressed with the editors putting in those white lines. They were so solid and stable in the video that they looked like they were drawn on reality rather than digital.
Just when you thought Donut hit their peak, they start tuning an EG and make even better content than ever before. Keep up with the great episodes!
You must have missed old donut, they've gone WAY downhill since then
@@shakercheese5092it sure did
Love what you guys are doing with this civic!
With no other info other than that what is provided is previous videos. Y’all have spent between roughly 33,000-36,000 dollars, on a 500 dollar civic. Holy crap. This is incredible. Job well done Gents
I don’t know jack about cars so I really appreciate how y’all walk people like through things and explain the basics. Love the channel!
Is the lack of planning part of the charm?
"We bought a part that won't fit and we spent a ton on it!"
Great job on the video folks! Thanks for making it.
I just found this channel when I watched the Tacoma builds. Awesome to see your work just wish I could afford a build like that. Lookin forward to see this build
You know, just had the dudes from Drag Cartel swing by to put in cams. lol. I do really appreciate that you're getting other YT channels and people from the Honda community involved. Such a cool series.
For Donut being a kinda goofy car channel with a lot of humor, they actually do a good job explaining things. Well done guys.
Such a clean EG. Love the build idea fams!!!!
Motion designer here. I commend these info graphics explaining the engine. So clear and creative. Go Donut production team!
So much amazing content packed into ten minutes. This is my favorite build so far!
While I love Zach and Nolan and everyone struggling through builds on HiLo and Money Pit like any of us slobs would, it's pretty awesome to get a glimpse of the cool tools and techniques that the pros have. I've never heard of pressurizing the cylinders to keep the valves seated. That's really cool!
The whole world is tuning in to see this eg hatch build and im so happy about it!
that looks crazy i cant wait to see how this turns out
Man all those thousands of dollars put into it and it's still a $500 civic, you guys really are the best mechanics ever!
I have to disagree, if the parts were bought at reasonable prices. They could sell it for what they have invested into it. Since anyone wanting to build a bad ass old Civic would have to put in the same money, plus tons of labor to build. They'd also need the know-how, otherwise they'd have to pay someone else to do it.
@michaelbrinks8089 oh yeah everyone knows you always get your money back to when you sell a molded car.
@@michaelbrinks8089there's is no way that they'd be able to get what they put into it. That's not how that works. But it is worth much more than $500.
@@michaelbrinks8089don't bother explaining it soe people see things at surface level. We wo 't even talk about tax deduction also. They should just let them do their thing lol
@@numa2k147 Kinda Off Subject I think $5,000 is way too much for that intake though.
They missed a chance to turn Zach into a moth when he said "I love lamp." Loved the episode guys!

there's an EPS kit for a Dc2 that will work for an EG also, Prius electric motor on the steering column

loving this series, i overspent on a 5k 99 EK hatch and found i got ripped when the first motor blew 6 months into ownership! this series makes me miss it more, and lets me know what i want to try next (when it starts running again ) lmao , Thanks donut!
7:21 Nolan and jobe talking through the thought process and workings of the car while Justin and Adam are reading a chip packet and discussing 😂
ITB is going to sound so sick... Love the sound of Induction
This is debatably the best donut series. Does a good job at showing the process in detail and exposes all the headaches you may run into along the way. It also shows that you can make any car fun if you do it right
Oh boy have fun running Alpha N vs MAP. Hopefully your tuner can make a hybrid map.
Been there done that. The sound is worth it. I did this back in the 2000s with a Miata and motorcycle ITBs.
I like that you guys are educating people. I like the new graphics. Absolutely love how you made Nolan ask a question he already knew the answer to
The education will have to supply correct information first 😅
@@user-sk1oo5mf7pbaby steps lol baby steps
What about an air filter?
That ITB must have been made for a different year or model than your engine is. If you had the correct one, it would have fit without having to delete your power steering. Now you guys will have to search for an aftermarket fix or custom fabricate something yourselves.
Nolan’s face when Jobe was cutting 😂😂
5:34 I love the geezer in the background happily playing on the sim.
Someone probably mentioned this already but I just want to set the record streight… 4 60mm throttle bodies is not equal to a 240mm throttle body… it’s actually closer to 120mm. This is because you are looking at the added cross sectional area of the throttle bodies. Don’t get me wrong, still a huge improvement, but I just wanted to point that out.
Quick mafs, PiR^2 or something like that 😂😂
It's exactly the same as a 120mm throttle body, at least in cross sectional area.
It's gonna be a good day :)
Nice to see E-man in the video. That guy was legendary when i had my 8th gen si.
Love that song at the itb install
5:32 this isn’t a great way to display air intake as area doesn’t increase linearly. I did the math with rough pi using a= π(r)^2 and the correct upgraded area would be a 3.4x increase. If you just add diameter like in the video the area would mean a 3.7x increase, I think. I’m not a nerd so I could have messed some of this up.
I had to comment on that as well, I checked if someone else had already commented . The 3.4X increase is correct.
@@durrwooddudethanks
and if they did have a single 240 mm throttle body, it would be 4 times larger area than the ITB setup lol
Day 411 of asking James to do an Up to Speed on his Dad

It’s no longer funny boss
Finally bro you missed so much times lol continue like that big don’t let hate overcome you I’m with you
Donut media is probably the best car channel out there. I wish I could do what they do with cars. Love this channel.
5:34 I love the dude just playing the racing sim in the background 😂
Sorry Boys but 4x 60mm ITB's do not equal 1x 240mm throttle body.
1x 65mm circle has an area of 3,318 mm2 (Stock intake)
1x 60mm circle has an area of 2,827 mm2 (1 single ITB)
4x 2827 = 11,308 mm2, yes this is a huge improvement, but,
1 x 240mm circle has an area of 45,240 mm2, basically 4 times as much...
4x 60mm throttle bodies would be the equivalent of a 120mm single throttle body.
That is not even including the fact that not all cylinders will be drawing in air at the same time anyway.
The real advantages of ITB's are in throttle response and short runner length = more top end power and quicker response time.
I liked my own comment
Love that for you, King 👑
ok…. and..?
refalling in love with y'all! Awesome as always!
I had a turquoise 1995 Honda Civic VX hatchback similar to this, but it has NO power steering. It got 50 MPG. I loved that car. I drove it from 1994 to 2007 until it got smashed in a hit-and-run. 😞 I miss it.
omfg, I love you for putting in the ad progress bar. Please keep doing that.
Can't wait for the next video on this car!
This is the best série , please keep doing more of these 😂 we need more crazy builds like this , you guys should try to do a prospect drift car with a original chassis lol
The annotations on the parts are super helpful for someone that’s as green as they come in regard to cars
I just seen it in the background having a driving game setup in the shop is sick
4 circles with the width of 60 mm have the same area as a single circle with the width or 120 mm.
That's because, when you calculate the area of a circle, you put half of its width (the radius) to a power of two and multiply that with PI.
r^2*pi
For electric power steering, you can get a junkyard Volvo p1 chassis pump. It’s found in 2004.5+ s40, v50, c30, c70 that I know of.
Can't wait to see it done!
Quality stuff man👌
I LOVE THIS SERIES
Wohooooo...
Drag cartel cams and itb way to go!
Only thing i would like to change is slightly longer itb trumpet/funnel... Roughly 4inches long
The power is in the head. You need to get the valveseats a nice new 5- angele cut, maybe bigger valves and the intake and outlet ports surface smoothed and maybe widened... fit between head and intake ports need to be aligned, too. Just putting on a big intake, won´t do it.
Im waiting part 2 of this build and race hoping the video will pop up
My mate's father has a civic like the donor car and it's such a sad, sorry sight!

My favorite part of any video is watching Jobe hit his shin with the skateboard! lol This Civic is one of my favorite cars you have worked on
