    interesting video, loved the analysis!
    for me personally the project was doomed from the start. I don't really like this new version. but I feel like it would've never worked. The original countach is such an icon embedded into the time it is made from. Furthermore it was such a ground-breaking design that shaped our idea of supercars as we know it. Even if I would've liked it, it would've just been a "ok nice" and not a "wow" that a Countach deserves. A countach should not just be an Aventador body kit. All these Countach redesigns of the original and the new one don't really recreate that feeling ... also having a car with like double the horsepower from the original is going to mess up the clean design of the original, hence why we got the large black hole on the side that as you mentioned is terribly weak ...
    that being said. Lamborghini has done the ideal Countach redesign, three times already. The Diablo is the "redesign" of the Countach. Then the Murcielago, then the original Aventador. These three incapsulate the wow effect, the forward-thinking design, the poster car, the spirit of the Countach much more than this retro-design project ever could've achieved.
    at least that's my opinion :)

    • @NielsvanRoijDesign

      Very much on board with your statement on "Lamborghini has done the ideal Countach redesign, three times already. The Diablo is the "redesign" of the Countach. Then the Murcielago, then the original Aventador."
      Indeed, these three incapsulate the wow effect, the forward-thinking design, the poster car, the spirit of the Countach as you all put it so well. Especially the forward thinking is key. The Countach was mental in the 1970s... Nothing like it - as in, not one thing. It was a space craft.
      The fact that this is a retro-design is arguably indeed its weakest link, spiritually. However, it could have been acceptable when executed in a way more radical, geometric, clean way - in my humble opinion.

    Modern cars have so many shapes that doesn't have any purpose. Glad to see that the new Countach just has so few things and isn't bombed with it. Modern cars have fake exhaust, questionable lines and airintakes that are just pieces of plastic without letting even air in. Thanks for the nice review, loved to see this one!

    Here’s a challenge: you didn’t like the tail lights borrowed from another Lambo, and you showed us some nice examples of designers borrowing lights from different makers and integrating them into a good sculpture. Can you think of a different set of tail lights that would work better in this new Countach?

    • @NielsvanRoijDesign
      @NielsvanRoijDesign  3 роки тому +3

      The tail lights borrowed from another Lambo are not ideal indeed.A different set of tail lights that would work better in this new Countach? I'd argue square, highly modern LED interpretations of the 3 squares in the first Countach. Think Hyundai Ioniq lights for the look I'd be after, with regards to the small squares there. But carried over from a Hella catalogue.

  • @dct124
    @dct124 2 роки тому +1

    Looking at the wheels the first time, I didn't like them and I honestly still think a different design should be used. However the last frame shown in this video with the lighting I'm sitting in almost makes them look light bronze or light gold.
    The big side air duct looks like a Templar shield. The Kite Shield 🤷🏾‍♂️
    Also the wheels look like a cross between the original Countach 5 circle wheel spoke and a Templar cross.
    I almost think they came up with the idea for some design cues from Transformers Last Knight. It's as if this Countach is a Transformer Lamborghini. Megatron shield has a similar graphic in it.
    The car reminds me of a white Knight.

      The wheels aren't perfect, much like the rest of the car. Although thisis likely one of the most difficult cars to get right... the old/original Countach is a massive icon.
      The lighting making them look light bronze or light gold indeed helps. A lot of work goes into colour and material subtilities.

    I love the design overall, but completely agree with your analysis. The element that bothers me the most is the blackened side area, to me it stands out way too prominently and looks like a lazy solution for the sake of a homage. I've watched several UA-camrs experiment with Photoshop mods to this design, some changes I agree with, others not so much (seemingly taking issue with the angle, as well as the positioning of the front lights) but also preferring to apply a rear wing to look closer to the later Countach models, something I disagree with.

    • @NielsvanRoijDesign
      @NielsvanRoijDesign  3 роки тому +2

      Thanks for tuning in and for sharing your thoughts on the video and the new Countach, including the online mods. The massive rear spoiler is only something that was added later on. It is the easy way of making people think it "now looks like a Countach" when it is actually not at all. The wing never was there for any other reason than show. It did not do anything. Apart from adding weight and slwoing the car down (really, it did...) so it is indeed better without. Didn't mention it in the film, so thanks for mentioning it here!

    I agree for the most part on your opinios, I am honestly not a fan of this new version because : 1) It is too big compared to the original. Should have used the Huaracan as the base and bolt on the V12. 2) fussy looking wheels and too little tire sidewall. Bring back smaller rims and deep dish design and it will look less like a massive car on skinny looking carriage wheels. 3) Bring back the NACA duct. This one is just wrong 4) those tail lights...nope...If I am going to pay 2 million for a car I want bespoke lights. 4) Pop up headlights should be legal again hahahaha. Honestly if someone is going to get hit by a lambo, he is gonna die even without pop up lights, and who cares if it spoils the aero? You can't drive fast enough at night for aero to really work anyway and despite it;s wedge shape, I doubt the car as a whole has low coefficient of drag.

      Thanks for tuning in - the question is asked a lot on this car and many others too - and thanks for putting it in! But sadly I won't go there. Those who do this on UA-cam show how a car isn't designed in 10 minutes, or even 10 hours. Non of the car designers on UA-cam that did "quick fixes" actually made it look better and when they where in the process of making it "different"very often completely ignore law, legislation, hard points and engineering no goes... It is the fake news of car design, so to speak.

    Do you remember, when Lamborighini Automobili were curvacious and elegant? Espada, Jarama, Miura and Jalpa were distinctively Italian, until the rivalry between Ferruccio Lamborghini and Enzo Ferrari didn't escalate to its highest point. Ferruccio wanted to prove Enzo that he's not just some average guy, who makes tractors and so Countach was born. Design-wise, Countach has lost its pro-Italian shtick, adopting global-wide 80's sharp pointy/cubical style, but on the bigger scheme of things, Countach has become a statement, an outstretched middle finger, a big bold "FUCK YOU!" letter to Enzo Ferrari and, boy, what a statement that was! Wave ripples after Countach release did not fade away to this very day. The car was so futuristic, so unusual, so expressive in its appearance, that whole design language for the brand has split into "before Countach" and "after Countach" timeline. Italians aren't famous for creating reliable cars, but you can't take this from them - they're expressive and the passion is something what Germans are devoid of. By renovating the Countach, Volkswagen had an easy job and even with all important guidelines Ferruccio left for them, they failed miserably.
    We've talked about the topic already: Volkswagen has raised the prestige of Skoda brand (doesn't come as a surprise, because since the 70's Skoda didn't have any), however, other brands under Volkswagen governance have lost every bit of their personality. Seat, Lamborghini, Audi, Bugatti - what do you see by looking at any random taken model by these brands? I see hints of Passat or Octavia, even if we're talking about multi-million dollar car for the rich. Excuse moi, but when I look at this Aventach (Countador?), I see motherfucking Skoda. Ferruccio must be spinning in his grave.
    Countach was a statement, so must be the next Countach. Does the new Countach state anything? It's merely regurgitating the Lego-like set from the VW design box, standardized and equalized. Everything has to look somewhat mundane, nothing has to stand out. For the sake of being slightly unpleasant to the eye, for you'll part ways with the car at the later stage in your life, when newer model comes out, VW made this huge faux intake the size manhole cover. Not a mistake - it's an eyesore by design. While the ad celebrates "the Countach line" (whatever that is - every mid-engine sport car from the 80s had one), the whole image falls apart. Sharp angles, the shape of air intakes, the character of the bumper and Audi-inspired lights graphics - these VW Lego parts even don't match that nicely each other!
    When VAG will realize that car enthusiasts don't want equalization? Yeah, they do this to protect Porsche from internal competition, but by doing so they dilute and flush down the drain the very history of what made those brands famous in the first place. Vorsprung.
    To hell with Volkswagen.
    There are so few cars left with personality, it's not even funny. Thankfully, Nissan recovers from the hole that Brazilian idiot Carlos Ghosn has dug Nissan into, by releasing the car so nice, that I am eager to hang the poster on my wall. And to start dreaming about the car again, like in the days of my childhood. Not everything is lost. At least for Asian manufacturers. European ones, though, abandon all hope.

      @NielsvanRoijDesign  3 роки тому +2

      Thanks for your elaborate reply again! Although you are correct about how daring the Countach was/is when it was launched in the 70s, the reality is cars now have become far too expensive in R&D to be made as wild and daring - hence the rebody/coachbuilding efforts. (Never mind the rather exorbitant sums they ask - and GET! - for these type of cars)
      Truly groundbreaking design sadly does not sell. See Multipla, see C-cactus, see many other great pieces of design that did not sell. VW became big because they truly understand this. People say they are missing Saab, but bought and Audi instead of a Saab when the brand was still around...
      Is this new Countach perfect? By no means it is. Is it - seen in the reality of car design and R&D these days - a good effort: probably it is.

The intro for the Countach already lost me when they wouldn't even consider a rear spoiler. Who ever designed this did not actually have a Countach poster as a kid and certainly never watched Canonball run. Just another design by hot air committee, with everyone trying to get their finger print on it and feather in their hat. Any retro resto project just swaps out the lamps for LEDS and the motor for an LS, and 20 plus rim tire package, with carbon fiber trim. Simple process. Just like the 2005 Ford GT. I agree with you about the air intakes and I would go even further and suggest that the majority of air should have come from the upper set of intakes instead of the sides.....they were extremely lazy and cheap with this car design .it's the kind of thing you would expect from a coachbuilder.... the car doesn't even come close to justifying it's name or it's price tag

      Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
      When it comes to the air intakes: it sadly isn't as easy as your suggestion "the majority of air should have come from the upper set of intakes instead of the sides" when it comes to the real life world of the car designer. The statement is easy to make, the car cannot just be changed to have different intakes and air flow. Hence the short talk on that in the video. Although it WOULD have been nice, the realisty is that they need and have to have the ide intake. However, a change of graphic would have been nice, indeed...
      And, ehhh, the "they were extremely lazy and cheap with this car design, it's the kind of thing you would expect from a coachbuilder" is that directed at your truly too? 😁 😆 😅

      and about the intakes I was not suggesting they just shift it as is....what I meant was a repositioning of the intakes with a complete configuration under the hood while retaining only the engine.A talented group of engineers could manage that since the diablo and the Murciélago do not have the large side intakes despite having similar engines.

:) cheers!
