I liked it and was entertained! Definitely wasn't perfect but I thought it was interesting. On your observations of claustrophobic shots-- I noticed that, too! Even the outdoor scenes were shot very close, especially in the scene catching grasshoppers with extreme closeups.
I loved the film's representation of the four horsemen, each wearing shirts corresponding with the colors of the horses they ride in the book of Revelation (only I guess 'pale' being represented by yellow). I liked how they were just normal people and they totally understood how they sounded. At the same time, they were (with the exception of Rupert Grint's character) patient, empathetic, and at times nurturing --- trying to help them despite the terrible choice they had to present them. Bautista especially was amazing! When you think of the biblical horsemen, you think of them as evil and scary, but these were mostly kind, normal people-- interesting take!
I agree that they could have been more methodical about explaining the plagues they were each about to unleash. To be fair, Bautista's character did give that monologue detailing what each plague would be prior to any of them being released. It wasn't completely unexplained or them trying to claim retroactively "Oh yeah this is totally what I saw."

I can’t say this movie was bad with how great the performances were and I liked a lot of the psychological aspects. But as thriller I thought it was disappointing. It got repetitive and walking out of it I felt really underwhelmed. Not one of M. Night’s worst but not his best either.
