I was born in 1968💚 and when I hear music of this signature significance, I tell you, it truly transcends me... to another dimension that is exclusive and untouchable!
Our parents had all this great music to play at dinner parties. Young people under 50. Have no idea how mid to late 60s and early 70 were the jams. Jimmy Webbs Wlineman is the outright jam. Nobody did it though like Glen Campbell. God rest him. This redention is cool though.
What are you carrying on about?..There is plenty of great music being played currently by accomplished musicians all over the world, the path of least resistance..not stuck( in the past )
Oh, I feel so blessed to of grown up in this time period. I became a devoted fan of Sergio Brasil'66 in 1968. I was in the 8th Grade. It was when, probably most of us became aware of this unique, brilliant, beautiful original sound of Sergio Mendes, they performed the Oscar Nominated Song, "The Look Of Love" from Casino Royale. Performance was perfection, and memorable. Karen had not yet joined so Lani Hall & Janis Hansen did the vocals🎵🎵🎼🎼🎤🎤. I was in tears of joy, also amazed at the very long, loud, clapping, whistling people in the audience. The applause was still going on when they came back from Station Break. I remembered my Mom saying, "Well they have probably just picked up thousands of more fans". Now as for this performance from the Music Scene in 1969, Karen Philipp had been with them a bit more than a year. From their 5th Album Release "Ye-Me-Le", they 1st performed the brilliant, haunting yet very uplifting Title Track, in Portuguese, rarely done back then, but it's Sergio😎. It was awesome, they came back and did their awesome version of the Jimmy Webb written, song which was big hit for Glen Campbell, but Sergio & the Girls added their special magic to make it as if Jimmy Webb wrote it for Sergio & Band. Eventhough back then, artists had to Lip Sync, it still was awesome.
Nice! I was also in 8th grade and 'discovered Sergio Mendes & Brasil 66. The other kids though ti was weird because I was listening to that kind of music. I really didn't get into the rock pop stuff, the default music. The Bossa music, and B66 was a departure from the rackety stuff over the transistor radio. Beautiful sounds, beautiful ladies and the genius that Mr. Mendes still is to this day.
Composição do 6° álbum do grupo Sérgio Mendes e Brasil 66. Sérgio Mendes é patrimônio do Brasil
I didn't really get exposed to Brasil 66 until the 2000's and then realized she sang the theme from Never Say Never Again. He voice always makes me melt.
Right, B'66 was true talent. None of the fakey auto tune stuff, it was pure and honest. It must have been so cool to be involved with any part of his band during that time.
Is the one at the right Karen or Janis? Never could tell the two apart. Yemele is from the second to last Brasil '66 albums. I bought them all! And it took years before it was re-released on CD. "Stillness" was the last album; after the recording session, Herb Alpert kidnapped Lani Hall. 😁
Rainha do mar! Senhora de todas as cabeças! A mãe de todas as mmãe!
It was just the way they did things back then. Much less expensive to lip sync along to a known recording instead of trying to set up an entire band, mic up all instruments, and vocals. Also, although they could get really good sound, many TV’s of the era could not play it well, so a studio performance was (maybe) better than an unknown live version. But then you could hear live music with the Tonight Show Band and it was great. If we only knew to hook up a TV audio feed to our stereos back then.
He stole her from Sergio Mendes in a backstab move. She was Sergio's main singer carrying his group. Not cool. It jammed up Sergio's group as he discovered her. Lost my respect for Alpert with that.
This was version 2 of this group. Sergio for reasons only known to him, fired everyone. Janis was the original alternate singer in version 1, then invited only Lani back; as Herb recommended. Later Lani left the group and they faded away. Brazil 77 and 88 were shadows of their past.
Everything Lani Hall is on I love RIP Sergio Mendes much love in heaven because that is where You belong!
RIP SERGIO MENDES SEPT 6, 2024
This really captures the cool, sophisticated music of 1968/69, my mom played a lot of Herb Alpert...I love this stuff.
Imagine you knew Lani Hall is married to Herb Alpert. They still go out on tour and over 50 years together are still married.
Yes… It’s incredible and it’s wonderful to be contemporary with people like yourself😀
I was 11 and my mom played Glen Campbell, but also Herb Albert and Sergio Mendes and Brazil 66.
I was born in 1968💚 and when I hear music of this signature significance, I tell you, it truly transcends me...

Born in 63..grew up on this stuff. Only great memories.
Born 1968 too! :)
I was born 64 😊
My folks played this when they had dinner parties . Great memories . I’m 58 today.

Lani Hall had wonderful voice. Great music.
She still does. I saw mr and mrs Alpert in September
Lani must have had a great talent for learning languages. She is amazing singing in Portuguese.
Rip Sergio Mendez.
real shame there is no music like this today with really professional musicians and blessed vocalists
Yes , that is very true!
What are you carrying on about?..There is plenty of great music being played currently by accomplished musicians all over the world, the path of least resistance..not stuck( in the past )
Maybe not played on current Radio, also, unfortunately.
The good thing we got the internet so we can gloat on jazz..rock..country..24/7

Very good insight Hugh , I also became a fan during that time and was able to see them live twice . What a blessing to hear Brasil 66 !

Ye Me Le is too short. It’s my favorite Brazil66 song by far. Haunting melody with killer lyrical dynamics. Magnificent.
and yet sadly it seems almost forgotten.
Be sure to check the original by Luiz Carlos Vinhas
Song of mermaid (Sereia in potuguese)

Lauda Königshofen ?
David Steinberg. Funny guy. Very big in the late 60's early 70s and beyond.
Extraordinario grupo con arreglos innovadores y magnificas voces aplausos miles
Smooth as silk.
I have seen a better resolution video of this exact 2 song clip in you tube. Man... it takes my breath away
A great interpretation of Wichita Lineman
If only more "rough diamonds" listen to that brilliance of radiance we will have a different world.
The best music ever i love this here way better than this junk today.

That blonde singer is perfect in all the senses !!
Karen Phillip. She was and still is very stunning and a great singer in her own right.

I don’t know if you know but Sinatra even said this music is one of the most underrated

Karen Philip and Lanni Hall
Great sound!
Dunno, man, they were such a good group it would have been nice if their TV appearances weren't just lip-synched...yet 90% of them were....
Almost everybody did back then.
It was just the way they did things back then. Much less expensive to lip sync along to a known recording instead of trying to set up an entire band, mic up all instruments, and vocals. Lieutenant Dish looks great! And not a single tattoo to be seen!
What a music like ... BUDOT???
I still think Lani Hall and Barbara Feldon are sisters (Feldon's original last name is Hall)
No way, no reference to that.
Well they're both brunettes and beautiful, but I don't think they are.
The brunette is Herb Alperts long time wife
He stole her from Sergio Mendes in a backstab move. She was Sergio's main singer carrying his group. Not cool. It jammed up Sergio's group as he discovered her. Lost my respect for Alpert with that.
@@Wixom2200 To bad they screwed Sergio.

It's Music Scene hosted by David Steinberg.

I really loved the 60's fashion.Thye were full of flair, color and elegance. Much better than today's potato sack outfits.
