I somehow came across these old comparison photos. I have to say that they are so moving, and poignant, I have shed a tear looking at several of your videos. Seeing quaint streets where 80 years ago some poor soldier died, and yet people are driving by today totally unaware. I agree with another commenter. These before and after images should be posted on the spots they were taken, so people never forget and we also never forget these young men who gave their lives, what ever side they believed in. I found the image at 6:07 of the Dutch Pastor tending to German soldiers so compassionate and moving.

Looking at these pictures I remember how my dad told me what it was like every night getting woken up by the airraid sirens going to the bomb shelters counting how many bombs were dropped and wondering howbof your mates you would see in the morning or that night when you returned home he lived and grew up in Coventry his school was bombed one night the same time the cathedral was bombed until he died he could tell you how many bombs were dropped and how many of each kind and he wasn't wrong thank you for posting

I agree with the fact that we should never forget what happened. My grandparents were of the greatest generation, but when you got a governor like ours who think that the truth of WW2 shouldn't be taught to children. It makes it hard to teach the lesson of war and hate so it is not repeated.

The last of that generation is slipping away from us. My relatives in Germany don't like to speak of those days much. They were hard times and traitorous times. The German people made up things of other people in order to get on the good side of the Allied forces and it was up to the accused to prove their innocence before the authorities.
Our last trip to Germany to visit our loved ones, they showed documents to me that were meant to prove their innocence back in the late 40's. It was an eye opener. Many Germans went with the flow of things because to do otherwise meant incarceration of not just you but your family also. If you showed any signs of disapproval with Hitler's regime, someone could tell on you and the Gestapo would come to visit. Horrible times.

Photographs from the early 1940s were not blurry. Black and white photography had been pretty much perfected… photographs were razor sharp. And, of course, photographs taken in the last decade are very very high resolution. So then why is this presentation so blurry? It’s definitely not UA-cam at fault, it’s this channel. I love the now and then concept, but I wish you guys would do a better job. (That, and the music is way way, way too heavy-handed. My head was spinning by the end.)
