Ostapenko's loss is so humiliating tho - harsh after beating Iga weeks back. Sums up her career
That's why Iga's fanbase doesn't care about Iga losing to her.
It won't change the fact that Iga is an all-time great and Penko is a fluke slam winner.
She can beat Iga 50 times because Iga doesn't like her game, but it won't add Penko any slams, WTA 1000 or WTA Finals titles.
Gauff can send flowers to Penko cause Iga would obliterate her in that QF
@@SmithyPL facts, Ostapenko can have 10 -0 lead against Iga but it doesnt matter when she never wins slams.
but Coco did have her chance to beat Iga at US Open, Iga's form after FO was beatable
@@deusexmachina9776 True, I would even risk saying that US swing is weakest period for Iga in any season. She improves on grass but she's not there yet and there's that element of being beatable after her Wimbledon losses + huge tiredness of Iga (she played 67+68 matches in 2022/23)
I’d change Swiatek vs Svitolina to Voundrusova vs Jabeur WC Final. Much bigger upset given that Swiatek is not the best grass player and Svito has already found her form at that time (and had much success at WC in the past years). Jabeur, however, made the final for the second time in a row and there wasn’t even a conversation about her losing yet she did to an unseeded player and that’s a shocker!
Ons did little or nothing to improve between last year and this year's Wimbledon. Coco, Sabalenka both won lead up events - Ons regressed and didnt win a title during grass season. Also her wins against Sabalenka and Rybakina were based on both allowing her back into the match instead of pure dominance.
@@deusexmachina9776Ons was clearly the better player she just flat out choked
Ons has a weak mentality, it was clear that she will choke that final. She doesn't have a mentality to win a slam final
Kenin’s match with Gauff at Wimbledon is in my top three matches this year. I loving her return. ❤
Same
If you watch Bencic's level of play in 2019 and comparing to her level now, you will see the difference 😢 Kenin somehow finds her game again after so many, her deadly backhand, her redirecting ability are coming back.
Kenin is like the dark horse of all dark horses 😂
So glad to see Kenin back at her level 🔥
Lol. What level.
@@shaunmoran9004 apparently you forgot she won AO 2020 and made the French Open final that year as well 😉
Sakkari lost R1 at FO and Wimbledon - US Open was hardly a surprise
Great video! Maybe i would have put another upsets (like Wozniacki defeating Kvitova at US Open, or Cirstea defeating Sabalenka at Miami), but your upsets were good choices. I totally agree with all the top 3, including that weird match lost by Ostapenko in Seoul. 😊
I don't think that's an upset, considering how bad officiating in that match was and how bad Ostapenko played in that match. Ostapenko handed the win to Back. She played that match like an amateur or even worse like a kindergartener.
I find it more upsetting that Kenin had big wins against Sabalenka and Coco yet didnt capitalize and win a title. Worst still she just fell back to losing to randos
Exactly! She’s the upset.
But it’s still a good step she is now like top 35 and will probably start contending next year
@@denidimov2544 hope so
Kalinskaya does have a positive H2H record against Rybakina though… she’s one of those who knows how to expose Lena’s lack of movement
Can't believe that Back got a win against Penko while Swiatek can't, but I'm sure she's gonna get one someday.
lol Ostapenko is inconsistent will probably be another 2 years before she gets deep enough into a tournament to face IGA - it was more than 3 times since Iga became number one when she was 1 win away from playing Iga. Multiple times they have been in the same Quater or R3 R4 also if Ostapenko does get deep enough it means she has form so unlikely she will lose as the drive to beat a world number 1 and mutli slam champion is there
Happy Thanksgiving to all of those who celebrate!!
Some of my favorite matches of the year and I watched many; especially loved Elina and Rebeka's wins.
Garcia vs Linette AO I would add
Some match is not a very big upset in this video. Losing from Kenin or Svitolina is not a shame. They are good players and hope their health will be fine. And Kudermetova's biggest loss was against Venus this year.
Kalinskaya has such pretty and smooth strokes.
Kenin Is in the videooo❤ my favorite tennist player
It may be an upset now but I think Linda Noskova has the potential to be a consistent top player.
I’m surprised the Wimbledon final wasn’t on here.
Swiatek vs Svitolina shouldn't be in the first place
Tbf Bencic was injured at RG
Ong I forgot about all of Nosková's matches at the start of the year! Especially against Vika!
Expected to see Venus vs kudermetova :( but other than that. Kenin, andreescu, and raducanu will be the dangerous unseeded players to watch this coming year.
For sure not Raducanu
@@magdalenaborek8350was about to comment that
This generation of female players reminds of the 1996-2000 era of players. A big open field of players along with a talented top 10 players like Mary Peirce, Conchita Martinez, Aranxta Vicaro, Monica Seles(come back after a deadly incident), Lindsey Davenport, Martina Hingis, Jennifer Capriati, Amander Coetzer, Jana Novatna and Steffi Graf(she was on her last leg of greatness) Venus and Serena were still in the making (even though Serena was the 99 USO winner). And there were so many other talented players. But no one was super dominant. Hingis was great and left her mark but no one was really taking the lead.
couldn't be agree more
Caroline Garcia vs Yafan Wang
Svitolina was just smacking that forehand in that match and my god it worked so well
yeah, i never thought she would come out with that kind of fh
It's a good film makes by iga to let shitvolina wons this match it a was a very bad joke... 😏
Sakkara of course you won Mexico after that us open flop
was sakkari losing really an upset tho? girlie can lose to anyone and it wouldn’t be shocking lol. ostapenko’s was so weird too, i remember being amazed that she lost to someone ranked that low.
Even weirder is that Iga has never beaten her. But she lost to someone ranked 569 😂 don’t understand
I'd rather expected smashed rackets, cursing, grimaces, tears, whatever. Please do such a list of the most emotional reactions.
I didn't feel it as an upset when sakkari lost in the opening round of a grandslam.
Świątek losong at Wimbledon is not upset at all for me
WTF. Swiatek wasn't a clear favorite before that match
I don't think that Volynets Def. Kudermetova is surprising. Kudermetova was having a rough time in the start of the year
Svitolina beating Iga was shocking in terms of how poor quality the match was - Iga went there ready to lose. Svitolina is a better grass player and should have won but just not like that
Iga plays avarage tennis on grass courts, it was not as big upset as Jabeur Vs Marketa
Do you know what avarage is? I don’t think it means you get to play quarter final with avarage.
NOSKOVA!!
Really wouldn't say Svitolina beating Swiatek was huge upset, let alone the biggest. Iga has never played her best on grass and Elina had come back, won a title already and made it far in many events before Wimbledon. Even the form guide going into it posed a close match
Was waiting for Stevanovic-Pliskova or Baptiste-Pliskova 😂
Not really upsets more inevitable
Rybakina was mad because the opponent wore the same dress that’s why she could not focus 😂
Is there even such a thing as an upset in the WTA anymore? Serious question.
Kenin is way better than Coco 😂
Kalinskaya always fight a close match to Rybakina
They say she always struggles against Russian players.
@@magdalenaborek8350 true
Wozniacki def. Kvitova??
Gauff defeated Iga should be the biggest upset of the year imo.😂😂 Yes I know Coco is a top 10 player.
Back has so elegant looking tennis, why she is so low in ranking😢
Back didn't win, Ostapenko lost. I watched Back's next match following the victory against Jelena and she is absolutely awful, almost getting handed a double bagel from Kimberly Birrell
Because she’s korean, tennis is not a very popular sport in South Korea; most south korean tennis players which are about 3 or 4 more are ranked below 300 except for Kwon Soonwoo. Korea’s best sport is archery
@@candeon.3842 I understand that, it’s a worthy achievement for the young SK player but I was more saying it’s pretty pathetic how Jelena lost the match considering she was up a break multiple times in the decider
@@jayh6135 you can never know with ostapenko, it’s either she gives the bagel or she’s the one that gets bageled, but it’s always funny how she can beat swiatek
@@candeon.3842 Exactly, you live by the winners, you die by the errors
Also i know this is super random and not related but back’s shouts of “come on” were so unnecessary. Shouts “come on” when she’s down 0-2, 0-30
Free palestine 🇵🇸✌️🇵🇸✌️
IMHO Ostapenko defeating Swiatek in US Open R4 is the biggest upset of the year, especially since Ostapenko is the only player who this year was able to defeat Iga Swiatek after losing the opening set.
I don't think that Anna Kalinskaya defeating Elena Rybakina is an upset, because Anna Kalinskaya is top 10 material and Rybakina isn't.
Rybakina is top4, ashole
There's no such thing as a WTA upset 😂
Fr, all of them are too inconsistent that it doesn’t feel like an upset
