I also miss the Fashionista's of this time frame, they had soooo much more to offer. Maybe now that the movie has broken records we'll begin to see better dolls again
I really wouldn’t mind the Millie sculpt so much if they would just give us some variation. I just can’t handle the same shade of hair/eyes (unless it’s fantasy colored hair) and almost the same makeup every single time. Even though she’s still technically blonde haired and blue eyed, I also adore this doll because the darker strawberry blonde hair and grey-blue eyes make her different. You’ve probably already figured this out, but her skintone is the Kira BMR with the yellow undertone.
Wow! Only $7 for the Avon Barbie?? i paid almost 80 for my Nichelle sculpt on eBay. They were adult collectibles. My Nichelle seems to have a smaller head than usual. Your Teresa appears to be perfect.
I heard Mattel is not making ethnic Birthday Wishes dolls anymore, because retailers weren´t interested in selling them. It is so sad, I was always buying AA or Latina versions and I would have expected to see like Adria, Nichelle 1990, Teresa or Tori in line but as Mattel sticked to only Millies, the possibilities were lost. Hopefully, there will new doll with Nichelle 1990 in Holiday one day.
Jamila/Fulla was targeted to my area, and Ive seen plenty of displays for her. I remember a "conservative" bookshop made a big display for Fulla and they were always fully stocked because no one purchased them. Fulla was a bit more popular because she seemed higher quality (she came with an abaya, but also sometimes came with trendy clothes in the box). In general though? No girl wanted them. I remember my cousin getting one from one of my religious aunts and she was so angry that it wasnt a Bratz Babyz she literally threw her in the trash. The only reason fulla sold was because the "deluxe" with the multiple outfits, accessories, jewelry etc would cost around 10USD and a Barbie doll in a swimsuit would cost 30 USD converted. She was not well liked or popular; was seen as a knock off so was looked down on by girls, and Fulla even started producing dolls without the abaya since children didnt like (if you look it up online, you will see more "trendy" fulla without the abaya/head scarf). I think its discontinued, because I no longer see any of them. I only see Yasmina, but she was not as diverse as Fulla - Fulla had multiple dolls, different makeup, sculpts, clothes etc - Yasmina is just there with her too short sleeves, and short abaya lol. I cant pronounce the middle friend name since it isnt arabic, but ill help you with the others- Jamila, pronounced exactly like Jameela Jamil, Jamil too - this is why I thought the actress uses a fake name. Jameela = beautiful, Jamil = handsome. Kareema (pronounced like carina, just with an m instead) means generous. The henna design looks weird. It does not match the arabic design, or the intricate indian style - it just looks like a tribal tattoo in red lol. That Birthday Millie is my favorite of Millie; love the big eyebrows and the hair, she reminds me of young brooke shields. I love the new video formal; its personal, it feels like a meetup :)
I never understood the reasoning behind the Swapping styles dolls. I don't know, hmm, wouldn't it make more sense just to swap their outfits??? I guess maybe it takes less time to just switch their heads than to change their clothes? Really gimmicky idea.
I like this new format. It's nice to see you in front of the camera. 😊 I really like the Swappin heads Barbie. I have several and I like the gimmick of switching their heads. The Avon Barbie looked so cool. The doll stand was very extra. I'm thinking that if an AVON Rep had it on display it would look like a trophy.
I remember buying them(Barbie Fashionistas)around 5-6$ it was really a great deal tbh and they were articulated you have to spend extra doller on articulation these days

If you want to remove her earrings, put her in a ziplock bag then into very hot water, like you would when doing a head swap, and her earrings will come out easier without ruining her ears. I loved everything about the Jamila doll’s details. I’m looking for all of them now. The Birthday Wishes doll was very cute. She made me think that she would have been an older model of the Margot Robbie doll 😊😊😊
I wish Mattel could rethink this and launch a test line where something as simple as changing the peg in the head will allow us to do this without heat, clippers and else... we can dream, right?
I love the easy swap feature with these dolls, I wish MGA copied it for their dolls instead of using the same gimmick as Bratz Head Gamez. Anyway, this body lets me easily swap Barbie's style between regular & My Scene(I believe they only come in 2 skintones, Barbie/Kennedy & Nikki/Madison). Although they didn't fix the elbow articulation(by using matte plastic) till Life in the Dreamhouse. And after that they stopped using the Belly Button torso & now have terrible thigh articulation(it tends to cut into the plastic of the thighs, only not an issue for MTM bodies since their thighs are concave).
What a great piece of Barbie history! When I was a kid it was really easy to pop off the dolls’heads with 70’s dolls. No need for ridiculous buttons. I loved your Muslim doll. Her henna designs are a nice touch. She isn’t bad for what you paid for her. And you got the sweetest Theresa sculpt! Great video.

I guess I'm missing the point of the swapping heads, because all I can think is that hairstyle is easy to change, clothes are easy to change, so why pop them around? I get that one may prefer a different head sculpt/face paint, but why not just buy that doll instead. No kid is going to want just one or two doll bodies and a dozen heads - they want a dozen dolls or more. If the hairstyles were super intricate, maybe it makes sense. The outfit on the Jamila doll is beautiful. I was surprised to see the markings that looked like Henna - I'm not very familiar with different cultures, associate those "tattoos" with India, and thought her outfit looked Muslim. Time to learn more! Reading comments, I think it's sad that kids shunned these traditional dressed dolls. I find it ironic that the Avon Representative dolls have such toned down/natural look makeup. Compared to other dolls, they look like they just have on mascara and lip gloss lol. They are absolutely gorgeous, though, and that outfit is so classy. I agree: Barbies always looked like they were in their 30s and Kens looked like they were pushing 50 LOL. That's a sweet Birthday doll. When you said there was nothing special about the dress, my brain snapped back "except that the print goes all the way around!" lol. As far as Mattel not making different versions anymore, it's sad. On the other hand, making just 3 variants to "be inclusive" feels even more excluding to me, like, it reinforces that whatever culture is not represented isn't important enough to be one of the minorities.

Oh I loved the fashionista line from 2010-2012! They had pretty good articulation and I loved the outfits. My favorite was Sassy!
