For November, my patrons voted on different combat themes from the Legend of Zelda series, and the winner is the theme for battling a Guardian Scout in the shrines of Breath of the Wild! It's certainly a complex theme: mainly in 13/8 time signature with an angular dialogue between piano and synthesizer, but not always! Not to mention, my own arrangement has some jazzy fun with it on top of that complexity.
Major bonus points to anyone who happens to recognize the obscure musical reference starting at around 1:45 in this arrangement... my hint is that it has nothing to do with the Legend of Zelda!

I’d like to think that when these guardians are activated, they just blast they’re theme as like they’re own little hype up song
Going by Terrako, music does seem to be one way some ancient sheikah tech communicates.
I've always liked to think that the anxiety theme from most guardians is a combination diagnostic report, error message, and "unit subverted" warning.
As for the scout theme, it could admittedly also just be the monks setting up some speakers. :V
Reminder that sheikah shrines are functionally identical to Portal test chambers. Those messages at the start of the shrines are from the speakers.
I love the bullet-time sound at 0:30; makes me feel like I'm really fighting it!

The extra electricity gives this so much more character! Excellent work, scruffy!

Just started a master mode playthrought. It really made me appreciate the combat music and what it brings to the tension and atmosphere 🤕
This is awesome, I love the inclusion of the bagpipes (very reminiscent of the main Shrine BGM) and the flurry rush sound effect was a nice touch!
I've been playign Hollow Knight and that game has some of the most incredible sound design work I can remember in a game. I wonder if you'd talk about that game some time in the future.

YES hollow knight is my favourite game of all time and has some of my favourite video game music, with such strange and interesting sounding instrumentation and melodies. Would love for scruffy to talk about it!!

Amazing jazz interpretation!!! The escalation of the fight and steadfast challenge for the player is totally represented in this piece!

I absolutely love the incorporation of the flurry rush sound effect !
This perfectly encapsulates the feeling of terror that set it when I shot an ancient arrow at one of these and it didn’t one-shot it.
The amount of detail put into this...you need some good quality gear to be able to hear everything thats stuffed into this arrangment.
Wow! This captures it all so nicely and is such a great arrangement! You can feel the tension, the weight! You can feel the fun in it too!
I can hear the Pikmin sfx for not being able to take any more Pikmin out of the onion from 1:20 onwards

This feels like it fits straight in the game. (It’s also a banger). I hope they do something similar to it in BoTW 2! It’d be a cool concept to make the song change with the level of scout. Or whatever new enemies they put in there.

Also a detail i like in-game is that the scout theme for when you're on a divine beast is corrupted because they are.

Really liked the mixture of modern electronic instruments and medieval bagpipes and drums with the piano droning out a fun melody. Nice

YES! This is amazing! It fits so well and also feels completely new and unique.
This is interesting... but it does lose some of the beeps/bops from the original which makes it sound a lot more empty at times but otherwise is a pretty interesting take on this theme.

I remember hunting these Downs in finding as many shrines as I humanly could and I pray to God that would sever shrine that I went in it would be a guardian scout battle cuz it's so fun also pretty hard I have died a few times because of them but it's so much fun

In terms of game effectiveness and usage, the much more colder sounding version we get in the official game is objectively better I would say as it more easily instills a sense of fear/urgency while this version is better in it’s own way in terms of “groove value”, which would be negative for the intended experience. However, at this point it’s a little useless to talk about that as this version is obviously not the official song, all of us are here in the first place to groove. Good video Scruff
