    So Stoked !!!! I got up the nerve to take apart my lens this morning . The focus ring was loose . Just had to tighten up the three screws holding it in place .... It's perfect again ! Thanks for the great video .... :D

    Very good video, thank you. I am going to buy one of these lenses so your video will help me to service my lens :-)

    Nice video, it helped me a lot to get the aperture blades back where they're supposed to be.
    Do you know what kind of ball bearing it is that creates the clicks? Mine does not have any.

    • @kilianhrkm

      I figured out it's just a ball. What size do you think it is?

    • @photokalia
      @photokalia  Рік тому

      Very sorry but I don’t know the size of the ball bearing. It’s really tiny though. In the millimetre range if I recall correctly.

    Thank you for this very valuable video! .. My lens' infinity focus is off.. it's focussing beyond infinity and I couldn't find any information where to adjust it.. Thank you for pointing this out. Do you have any recommendations for what material I could use if I need to add more 'washers' or 'Shims'?

      Did you ever figure this out? I have the same issue

    Do you need to use a particular type of lubricant for the focus mechanism, or is anything okay? Also, the tool at 5:12, what is that called and do you need to use it or can you use a screwdriver or something that I'll already have around the house? Thank you for such a great and informative video!

    Hello! Amazing video! I was wondering how would you go about fixing a backfocus issue on this lens? I tried it with a Cannon P and it backfocused on film and now I tried it on a Leica M10 and still backfocuses a lot! Thank you very much! Have a nice day!

    • @photokalia

      Hi, I addressed this at 8min 38sec into the video. There are some shims that you can add/remove to address the backfocus issue. Good luck!

    What is the size of the screwdriver you used for the tiny scew? 0:55

    • @photokalia
      @photokalia  6 місяців тому +1

      Sorry I don't have the size. If you get a cheap jeweller's screwdriver set (the kind for spectacle screws) you should be good to go. That's literally what I used.

    Any idea if the repair for canon 50/1.5 is gonna be similar?

    The ball bearing within my lens has fallen out of place, as I shake my lens you can hear the rattling that it creates. In order to remove or re-install the ball bearing, I need to take apart the from and rear elements? Do I need that specific tool for the rear element removal?

    • @photokalia
      @photokalia  8 років тому

      You will need to take it apart from the rear element. If you look at my video (7:03min onwards), the ball bearing goes under the metal plate held in place by the two bronze coloured brackets. If you don't have that tool I used (lens spanner), you can still unscrew the back if you have something that fits into the two notches (4:42 & 5:01 min in the video) and can produce the rotational pressure to unscrew that piece, but it will be harder without the right tools. My biggest fear even with the right tool was scratching the rear element. That's why even though I hate the blurriness of the video I made, I haven't re-shot it. Maybe I'll re-do it the next time my lens needs a clean :)

    What kind of screwdriver do you use to open it? and size of the tip?

    • @photokalia
      @photokalia  Рік тому

      I don’t remember exactly which size but I just used one of the screwdrivers you’d typically use for tightening screws on spectacles. They usually come in a set so just pick the one that’s closest to the size of the screw head.

    2:38 How did you loosen it? I'm trying and I can't do it

    • @photokalia
      @photokalia  8 років тому

      It's been a while so I'm going from memory here. There is a screw at 1:00 that you need to remove first. After that, you should be able to unscrew the part at 2:38. Perhaps it could be a little stiff if you're doing it for the first time.

    • @nmm6263
      @nmm6263 8 років тому

      photokalia Yes I removed the screw but I've been trying to unscrew the part for an hour and it didn't move at all. Did you use any special tool or technique?

    • @photokalia
      @photokalia  8 років тому

      Hi Nico, sorry you are having trouble with this part. I just took my lens out to check as I haven't done this in a while. I was able to unscrew the black part after removing the screw, exactly like the video. There is no special technique. Just apply a firm grip on the lens body and turn the black part counter clockwise. I have two copies of the lens and have used the same technique on both lenses before. If it doesn't work, you might need to invest in a rubber ring (www.amazon.co.uk/Tera-Cowhells-Rubber-Removal-Spanner/dp/B00UJCIE0C) to help you get a better grip to twist the part open. The link I gave you is just a sample that I googled. You might need to shop around for a good deal on them. There is another video by another guy on UA-cam for the Canon 50mm f/1.2 LTM, which is similar in construction. You can see how he uses the tool to open the lens up between 0:40 to 1:02 (ua-cam.com/video/Pw005fjIsHc/v-deo.html). Hope this helps, and let me know how it goes!

      hi, maybe you've solved your problem by now, but I was at the exact same situation. that Black ring was too Hard but I used a canon eos strap with the ruber against metal to loosen it. it worked perfectly

    I just bought this lens off eBay and the previous owner stated the aperture would only work at 1.4 (stuck) so come to find out the lens it’s missing the aperture blades … yep they’re gone 😢. Why would anyone remove the aperture blades?

    • @photokalia
      @photokalia  Рік тому

      Oh no really sorry to hear that. That’s an unethical seller though for neglecting to mention the missing blades. Could have been cannibalised to repair another lens?

    hi, how do we remove the focus helicoid to lub it?

    • @photokalia
      @photokalia  8 років тому

      +L T Sorry I couldn't figure that part out so I didn't try removing it. I decided to leave it alone since it didn't need lubing anyway.
