- Shirley Temple was near the end of her reign as Hollywood’s top child star when she starred in Darryl F. Zanuck’s production of The Little Princess. She plays Sara Crewe, the privileged daughter of Captain Reginald Crewe. When the Captain leaves to fight in Africa’s Boer War, Sara is enrolled into an upper-crust school for girls in London. All is well until Sara’s father is reported dead. When Sara’s intuition tells her the Captain is still alive, she begins hunting London military hospitals, culminating in what Times’s critic Janet Maslin called “...a happy ending sure to make even grown-up viewers cry.”

Thx for uploading. I adore this movie. I was born in 77 but I grew up watching old B&W movies because that's what my mother loved.
I have watched nostalgic black and white movies since I was a kid. Ialways had a fascination for old movies. This is one of my favorites, there is a remake of The Little Princess I like that one as well. ❤️💫

Many versions of the little princess talks about India, but they don't say where., As a friend of mine came from southern India, as I imagine that's where Sarah came from, maybe Bombay or it's called mombi now.

No, The 1995 version wasn't inspired by this. It was inspired by the book that was written in 1905 by Frances Hodgson Burnett.
