nobody on earth can ever replace HER VOICE ON ZUEINGNUNG..NOBODY....SHE WAS MEANT TO SING THIS...my heart is broken at her loss...we have all lost a true goddesss
Jessye Norman I adore and thank you for your interpretation of this piece. This recording helped me memorize the lyrics to this song to get into the music school of my dreams. I graduated from there 4 years ago and actively pursuing my passion in music . J’adore mademoiselle. Rest Safely with the King.
I love this interpretation. It's nice to hear it moderato. So many people slow it down so much and have a tendency I think to add too much drama to this piece. It's so pleasantly beautiful all on its own with a great voice. Especially a voice like Jessye Norman. Thanks for sharing this =)
Her voice is amazing, brava!!!! I am learning this song, but as a high baritone/tenor...Still not sure what I am...lol...Her tone is beautiful and very rich. Her facial expressions are at times very good but that smile at the end is a bit odd for me, its like she is surprised she finsihed the song or something...lol...But I tip my hat to greatness, you go Jessye!!!!
But Schwarzkopf was singing with piano and Norman is singing here with Orchestra! And it's no small orchestra either. I've sung with them and they are loud!
I tend to agree with sumalumajumjum who reckoned that she 'hits everything like a freight train' - it's a magnificent and powerful voice, but I'ver always preferred Elizabeth Schawartzkopf's version. It builds slowly, and joyously to a single, final magnificent climax. Just my opinion, but I've been listening to both singers for the last three decades.
I agree. Shakespeare comes to mind. Many actors milk his lines too much. Exactly wrong. They need to be thrown away, as if you just thought of them and blurted them out. Otherwise the result is the caricatures of Shakespearean actors in Western movies. Norman by contrast, seems to be feeling what she's singing totally.

wish it were slower
I love Jessye Norman but not in this particular perf. Just a bit "overcooked" all round. Looks like she's wearing a second hand parachute.
but she sings so flat here. A wonderful instrument but technically not very good singing
Not bad.
No she isn’t fantastic, the voice is quite ok but you can’t understand a word.
Sorry but how is it possible to like this ?
She is out of tune from the first note and her facial expression makes laugh.
