- #PandaStory: In honor of Mei Xiang and Tian Tian's little miracle cub being bestowed his name today Xiao Qi Ji, I put together a video compilation of memorable moments and milestones from the past 94 days, ending with a very precious nursing scene from this morning, and you can hear Xiao Qi Ji singing his nursing song.

In the face of so much that seems to have gone wrong in 2020, Xiao Qi Ji is the little miracle that shows us that life is still beautiful

The name Xiao Qi Ji really fits him.
FYI. His mother, Mei Xiang, had previously had five false pregnancies and this is where researchers estimated her chances pregnancy at 10% even after she gave birth to Tai Shan in 2005.
Aside from those false pregnancies, 22-year-old Mei Xiang gave birth to a cub, presumably a female, on September 16, 2012. The cub later died because of the lungs not being fully developed.
Mei Xiang's next deliveries occurred on August 23, 2013 where she gave birth to a surviving female cub. She later delivered a stillborn cub the following evening. Of the twins, only one survived, the surviving cub was later named Bao Bao which means treasure.
The 2013 scenario also happened in 2015, when Mei Xiang, once again, gave birth to twins, but this time it's a pair of male cubs. On August 22, 2015 at 5:35p.m., Mei Xiang delivered the first cub, which is smaller than the second cub, who was delivered six hours later. The smaller cub died, and the surviving cub was later named Bei Bei meaning precious.
This is why it's miraculous, with Mei Xiang only having 10% chances of pregnancy, and at the same time, being a senior. Mei Xiang is the oldest panda in the United States to give birth, at 22 years old.

Yes, Mei xiang's responses are similar to a "normal, caring mom". I put that in quotation as there are moms with difficulties or challenges. I suppose there are some pandas that may not bond? What amazes me is that the little baby pandas (I just saw Bei Bei's big fall) don't get broken bones unlike infants who would have been in emergency rooms in a jiffy

Little Miracle he is! I love the way Mei adjusts her mothering as he gains strength, which comes from her smart mothering constantly nudging him along. He’s one amazing panda baby and it’s such a joy watching them both.

When I watch again how was tiny cub, I remember my thinking at that time: I hope he can grow up faster cause tiny is not safe. I look forward he can be big as Fu Bao- in Korea or Yuan Bao-in Taiwan. Under his mother takes care with love, he is big and look same fluffy ball, I am so happy.

Hello DoxieMom!!! I have been following you ever since Xiao Qi Ji being born.... was not so enamored by the giant panda since him. COVID redirected a lot of things, but wish it had not been the case for me to be more aware before!!! You...certainly upon gathered history have been following giant pandas especially at the Smithsonian!!! I am very very very GRATEFUL! Your past videos helped me learn sooo much more about the Giant Pandas born under Gorgeous Mei Xiang and Funny dad Tian Tian. Mei Xiang is regal at heart!! Dad cracks me up in so many ways..maybe some do not see what I see, but I soo love that guy!!! Love watching him chew bamboo shoots and raise his head in enjoyment...that is one of my favorite sort of qwerks about him! Thank you for your continuous history of this FAMILY of pandas through the years!!! I am VERY GRATEFUL!!!
