The LR4 is so awesome. I used to clean the litter box every day and was diligent. However, got super busy with work and started lacking. I bought (2) LR 4’s and it is a game changer. It completely eliminated the odor, hid all of the waste, and let me know when to change it. With 7 cats, I only change it out once a week. It solved all my problems. Well worth the 1300 bucks I payed.
Geez I can barely afford 1.. I'm debating on it. I have 5 cats. I'm hoping 1 LR4 is enough.. if not, I'm not going to shell out $750... and I certainty don't have & won't spend $1300 for 2.. you think 1 LR4 is enough for 5 cats? I don't mind empting the waste bin every 2 or 3 days..
@@scottrichmond3400It says it can handle 4 cats but I think that's regarding the app. You can set 4 cat profiles. I don't see why 5 cats can't use it so long as the drawer is changed out as needed.
Another reviewer said they didn’t like the many crevices and gaps in the design. She was blown away to see litter got into everything inside the unit. Takes deep cleaning to a whole new level. She had to take it outside to clean. When it’s time to deep clean take everything apart and inspect it. If this new unit has litter everywhere she recommends returning as a major design flaw knowing the problem risks damage. She didn’t want to be enslaved to taking it apart often for deep cleans trying to avoid a problem they should fix. Keep watch on your machine. You can return it under warranty if you have the same experience, I agree, loose litter should not be able to interfere with the inner working parts. Her video showed the litter inside. Lots of it. As best she could tell it’s the opening and the cat kicking the sand drops it down inside the door getting inside.
Me. I spent $699 for a litter box. Between the smell control and being able to monitor my older cats weight without having to fight to get her on a baby scale, it's worth every penny for me. I had a problem with the sensor and black bags, so switched to white tall kitchen bags and that helped. Arm & Hammer Slide litter is a little more expensive, but works great in it. I tried a lot of the other boxes like you did. Scoop Free sounds like a great idea but wasn't worth the trouble. One of my cats attacked the rake every time it ran and it didn't really do anything about the smell.
I've had a Litter Robot 3, for 4 years. It just died and I'm not fixing or replacing it and here's why. 1. It would occasionally get stuck in a position where there was no litter exposed, and the cat would be forced to make other arrangements. For that reason alone, I had a regular litter box as a back up, which he'd also use, so it kind of defeats the purpose. 2. Dust. Enclosed box's with a flap/door really keep the dust down in a room. There's no door on a Litter Robot, so every time it cycles, several times a day, it's generating dust, lot's of dust that was accumulating on everything in the room. 3. The max time to wait before it cycles is 15 minutes. That's not enough time for the litter to absorb all the stink, and the tray underneath emits a smell I've never had with a traditional litter box. It's a nasty odor. Even with the charcoal insert. I really wanted to like it, but I'm back to a fully enclosed box with a door. No dust, no stink, no malfunctions.
Thank you for your review in simple, articulate, easy to follow and understand description, comparisons and how to use suggestions snd descriptions. I received the new Litter Robot 4 3 days ago. I had LR3 for 7 years and it was amazing. Prior to this cleaning a traditional litter box a few times a day is so tedious, but with LR3 it was a once in a week change of bag and once a month deep clean…. staggering better improvement to my life. Being able to go out without worrying about clean box for cat is a great feeling. So question is who would buy LR4? Answer, me!… I upgraded yesterday and I’m very much looking forward to the new features and improvements over LR3. Imho, this machine is completely indispensable, a no-brainer. Great thorough review. Not sure why people keep saying, $500-600. With taxes this thing is almost $800-$900. I have three questions: 1. What are your thoughts on their litter? 2. The clear bags they sell are pretty affordable, $35 for 50 or 100 for $55. You still have to buy black bags, have you considered the cost difference? 3. Do you use their odor traps or just stick to the carbon filters?
1. I never tried their litter, I've had great results with arm and hammer clumping litter and it works so well with the litter bot, I've never had to try anything else. 2. Weve switched to regular white kitchen bags, and have gotten better results with waste reading. The company design the waste tray so you can use standard rectangle kitchen trash bags. No harm in using their bags, but the savings will definitely be buying it in bulk from Walmart or Sam's. We're talking 10 bucks for 200 bags ect. 3. I've removed the carbon the first time I washed the machine and forgot to put it back on for months. There was no change on oder control. It wasn't better, or worse. So I doubt it does anything. For the order trap they sell, Ive used it on and off. Again, there might be a small difference, just not big enough to notice it. At least for me.
Thank you for your thorough review. After a terrible experience with the $500 Choubox we’ve been considering the LR4. Your comments make us lean toward getting this machine. There’s a ton of automatic litter pans on the market now (April 2023.)
Your welcome! Thank you for the comment! Everyone wants a slice of that automated litter box. My feelings are still the same. I feel like it's way overpriced, but in terms of managing orders, it's an A+! 2 months ago, My brother watched our cat, and I had taken over the LR4 for him. Last week he watched our cat again, but this time I sent over a regular box. Within 24 hours he said his entire house smelled and the next time I drop my cat off, I either drop off the LR4 or he isn't cat sitting. 😂
I have the LR4, it works perfectly with only a couple of minor issues, the first is that the globe lights are always on even in auto mode I guess unless you have a spotlight shining directly on the sensor or place it in the sunroom it'll just stay on. the cat likes to pee around the perimeter of the litter so it doesn't get clumped and sometimes stick during the cleaning cycle. occasionally I'll just scoop some litter over if I see that. Keep your scoop handy to knock off or cover sticky waste . And finally with all the notifications you get they didn't think to give you a notification that a cat has entered the litter box.
No one mentions the layer of litter stuck on the inner lining covering urine or feces that you have to SCOOP then wipe dry during reviews, but it is indeed a problem they could’ve done better with. However it still beats cleaning 5 litter boxes. I rather maintain 2 LR4’s daily. And the odor blocking is worth it itself
Great review just got ours today and like you said very easy setup smooth transition do agree with you on the price point but it will be well worth it after a few weeks of not having to scoop

Thanks for the comment! It is over priced, but I can' say with certainty, it does work. It's been over 6 months and I have happily never smelt my cat's business's since switching over. Lol
They DO occasionally have sales, usually just on their bundles but still worth it. They don't only build to order. It depends on the time of year. They are sometimes on backorder. We had to wait a month for ours as well, but if you buy one today it will ship in 3-5 days.

Good review. I work long hours and often didn't get to the litter box like I should. I also have a dog that likes "kitty rocca" for some odd reason (well, he is a pug, which should explain it). If I didn't get to the cat box quick enough, there would be little pieces of soiled litter all over the house. Not having to worry about that anymore was WELL worth the price of the machine. You're right though, it is expensive for what it is and the poor quality of the lid cheapens it a bit. However, the pros far outweigh the cons with this machine. So far (a couple of weeks of usage with two cats) I am very happy.
Edit: maybe dust is hampering my sensors because i have to manually cycle the robot right now. I will clean the sensors with a cloth and que-tips. Nothing wet on sensors. Thanks for a very informative video
have you looked into the Petkit litter box's during your research? its a good one. a lot of new automated litter boxes have come out recently that are way cheaper than $699
People have no problem dropping 1000 bucks on a GPU to get a few more fps in their games. And another 1000 bucks on a new phone every other year or so. But 700 bucks to not have to scoop cat poop every single day is too expensive? Funny how some people reason.

Whiskers claims it can handle multiple cats and I don't see why it wouldn't be able to handle 5. I would recommend delaying the cleaning cycle to 3 times daily. If it's set to clean after a cat does it's business. It could hold up the litter box causing your other cats that have to go to use your carpet instead lol.
That’s the thing about companies and the product they make . They know that’s pets and specifically cats in this situation are near and dear to the human heart so they can take advantage of this and ask whatever that market will bear. If they charge $1000 for the LR4 people would pay it for that freedom and convenience. They definitely are pulling on the old heart strings.
I’m still not fully sold on automatic litter boxes. Especially since so many of them have restrictions on the type of litter you can use. I’m trying to move away from clay litter since it’s not healthy for me or my two kitties, but most of the automatic boxes require you to use clumping clay. Also I kinda feel like the Litter Genie system is the best way to manage litter odor. I truly don’t smell anything anymore, even when changing the bag. Daily scooping doesn’t take very long, especially since I’m using more lightweight natural litters. I feel like these machines claim to solve one problem while creating ten more! Sometimes the wheel doesn’t need to be re-invented. Plus I don’t think I have the space to accommodate multiple machines since I have 2 cats. I’ve been doing a lot of research on the Litter Robot and Leo’s Loo Too, but I think I will pass on both. Thank you for this thorough review!
For two cats I wouldn’t bother buying one . This is helpful for those of us that have 4+ cats and have to manage 5 litter boxes, I invested in 2 LR4’s and not only is there no odor (you know you’re supposed to dump out the litter In the boxes weekly right? Lotsa of savings when it comes to fresh litter) and the space I saved I can finally turn my guest room into a guest room instead of a cat restroom (full of litter boxes) and the odor control is so good, now that they’re acclimated, we’re moving them to our living room and kitchen to decorate the second bedroom. Save your money if you only have 2 cats, they probably share one litter box anyway. PS the fact that you claim not to smell any litter, even while changing the bag-just means you’re nose blind to the stank. Doesn’t mean your guests will feel the same.
When you said you didn’t understand why it kept being interrupted, I wanted to let you know my cats are the reason why it is interrupted all the time. When it starts turning they run over there and have to look inside to see what’s going on. So of course, it will stop until they leave.
Hi Deana. Thanks for the input. That's not the case for me. Because I'm testing the unit, once my cat is done, I don't let her back near the box for that particular reason. It's part of testing a product. You eliminate all variables. The actually reason for my mentioned interruptions is a dirty sensor. As one commentor mentioned, the sensors are recessed and provides a dust trap for the dust that comes from certain litters. This is the actually reason for the interruptions. But I appreciate your comment!
My two cats weight 6 and 9 pounds. The app says they weight 2.5 and 4 pounds. I assume this is happening because they don't go completely into the robot, os it's only weighing their butts. I can say that it is consistent though.
I agree. If I had to do it again, I'd purchase this machine in a heartbeat. I've had a lot of different companies reach out to review their auto litter box, and when I give them my expectations list that I created base on what the LR4 does, they ghost me lol
Thank you for posting. I'm wondering if the interior of the globe is spacious enough for my two 12 lb cats.? What is the approx dimensions of the litter area? Thank you
I think 1 cat would be fine. If both often go to the litterbox, they won't fit. Lol The outside opening measures 15 1/5 in. Inside the hood, it measures 19 1/2 in across, and 17in in height.
@@MonsterReview Yes, minor things like a built in ramp, make the cat sensors flush instead of recessed for easier cleaning and maybe a backup power supply built in for outages.
It is a steal for 699 USD compared to what you pay in Europe. It costs 1.158,14 USD (1.076 Euros) over here and you can´t return it since it is imported. Very expensive piece of plastic.
Do not get the LR4. After a few months, they have had real problems. The idea is great, but the machine has a way to go before its functionality is beneficial. As of today's date...the LR4 has been getting terrible reviews from those who initially raved about it.
Your scaring me. Lol good to know. I'll be on the lookout. Only thing ive noticed so far is crap starting to stick to the walls inside the globe, wifi randomly going off, and inconsistent weight measurements. My cat be weighing 9lbs on Monday, 6lbs on Tuesday, and back to 9lbs on Wednesday.
@@loreall.2461 I found that if you spray the rubber walls with food grade silicon, it keeps clumps from sticking to the wall. So I started hosing it down and coating the rubber with silicon once a month and it works great! And my cat doesn't seem bothered by the spray as it is orderless. The wifi on the other hand... That issue has gotten worse 🤣. Maybe I'll try to reset the whole unit one day. And it's official, the top bonnet no longer latches down leaving a huge gap on the top. But overlook all those issues, it still does what it promises. And that keeps your litter box clean, and eliminate order. We use arm and hammer right out from the start and worked so well, we never felt the need to try anything else.
I read that the LR4 has too many gaps for urine to leak down underneath unlike the LR3. But the LR3 is way louder and smaller. Also, there's a guy on youtube, that started getting gnats (bugs) and maggots underneath within 3 months of use. So be sure to inspect underneath where the tray is. This means deep cleaning really often. Also, I'm looking into the Neakasa because it has wifi but does not require it. The LR requires wifi to work at all where the Neakasa does not . I think LR should consider redesigning to give the option to work without wifi in case your router or service fails.
I'm so glad I'm not alone! I got so frustrated when I washed it last week. The bonnet kept disconnecting from the front housing. I feel like it's gotten worse. But I can't argue with the results.

Thank you
I have 5 cats ranging from 6.5 lbs to 20 lbs. All of them use it with no problem. Went from 8 litter boxes to one. Worth every penny!
I think 1 cat would be fine. If both often go to the litterbox, they won't fit. Lol The outside opening measures 15 1/5 in. Inside the hood, it measures 19 1/2 in across, and 17in in height.
My 22lbs cat uses it with ease.
We named our Litter Robot R2-DLoo.
Nice! I named my robot vac R2 D3.
I got an LR4. The price is worth it. The device is a real game changer for cat owners.
Anything you think Whiskers can do better?
@@MonsterReview Yes, minor things like a built in ramp, make the cat sensors flush instead of recessed for easier cleaning and maybe a backup power supply built in for outages.
Top cover issue here too.
If you like it never finish a review with negatives. UA-cam 101. #1
I just bought one in Canada....it was $1200.00 after tax.....fml ...I sure hope it works...
It is a steal for 699 USD compared to what you pay in Europe. It costs 1.158,14 USD (1.076 Euros) over here and you can´t return it since it is imported. Very expensive piece of plastic.
I want to get a cat but I’m not sure about the price for this litter box. Save my pennies I guess lol. Ty for the review
#6 poor Bonet design! Yes, same problem. Otherwise doing great.
I'm so glad I'm not alone! I got so frustrated when I washed it last week. The bonnet kept disconnecting from the front housing. I feel like it's gotten worse. But I can't argue with the results.
I did.
Is this you BKNY?!
$700 for a litter box? 🤣🤣
Right! That's like a family trip to Disney! Ok.. maybe not Disney. More like sea world. 😂
@@MonsterReview crazy world we live in 😂
Thank you. That was an incredibly thorough, informative, articulate and helpful review.
Glad it was helpful!
