Do you know what’s better than living in Bali? It’s living in Bali as a digital nomad who spends less money and enjoys a dreamy lifestyle!

It been like this for years they clean it n it keeps coming
And the other thing is all that seafood your eating is full of micro plastic

6:38 A Muslim country is a country with a Muslim majority population but does not adopt Islamic law as the legal system of the state.
In contrast, an Islamic state is a country that applies Islamic teachings or laws as the source of law in governing the state.
Therefore, Indonesia is considered a Muslim country because it has a Muslim majority population but does not implement Islamic law as the legal system of the state.
it's more or less like that. Sorry, my English is not very good, I used Google Translate. 😬

I love this channel and it shows how different the mindset is the travelers who travel to Bali and Java (mainly Central Java where i assume you live, cmiiw Not Diplomat). So I appreciate your questionings and videos.
But one thing that struck me the most of, is that some, not all, travelers or digital nomads from what I've seen who has been living (not just visiting) in Bali for months or years and years.. there seems to be a disconnect between what they say (Indonesian/Balinese friendliness, smiling, cultural appreciation, connection to the land etc)... and yet they do not even try to learn Indonesian language or Balinese language (I've seen bules who do, but I feel most of travelers who live for years do not get immersed in the place they say love to live). Keeping in their own western bubbles and the mindset is completely disconnected. Don't get me wrong though, I believe that all Indonesians should learn English, while keeping both their local tongue and Indonesian.
I agree with the heavy developments in Bali btw, but also this is because the influx of tourists coming and the price for local Balinese (or Indonesians in general) getting higher which means its better to sell their land (ngapain mikir masa depan kalo bisa kaya sekarang). It needs to be a collaboration between the local adat/banjar with local-provincial-pusat governments with tourism developers/actors and with building and zoning regulation from PUPR/Perijinan involved tackling overcrowding spots, road infrastructures, etc.
And Indonesia is not a Muslim country, it's a Muslim-majority country that has some laws influenced by Islamic laws, but the majority of our laws came from the Dutch. Exceptions are Aceh province which implements Sharia law (which is only to Muslims living in Aceh, not to non-Muslims or visitors who are non-Muslims) and Bali province, since the province is unique (one island, one province, Hindu majority), where the Balinese government was able to keep its Balinese Hindu traditions and culture strongly as it is the only province with Hindu majority. Other provinces are hard to follow these examples because its less homogenous in terms of one majority ethnic group or one majority religious group (case in point the Kalimantan provinces with the Dayak peoples/tribes).
Anyways, thank you for your video!

What I can say so far is, among other reasons: In Java, the foreigners have to adapt/immerse into the Indonesian society, while in Bali it is the opposite. The environment doesn't encourage them to do so, hence the bubbles. In Bali, the differentiation (because of cost-wise) between foreigners and locals in places like restaurant, living place, gym, or any activity place is real, and it doesn't help at all. Maybe if essential things like getting a job/getting a house here isn't as restrictive, they would try harder. Or maybe... this is what Bali is actually about.
-----But what's interesting is, even with such limited connection (disconnected, as you said) they are pretty much content. what would happen if the the connection were strong?
Thanks for your input, this kind of well-written comment enriches the video and the discussion!

    • @dreaming_by
      @dreaming_by 12 днів тому

@@notdiplomat that is actually super interesting when you said "maybe... this is what Bali is actually about." never thought about that.. maybe it's a way for Balinese to preserve their culture/purity/differentiate from other people? hmmm very interesting
Regarding getting a house I agree, but still locals need priority in my opinions. But for getting a job, digital nomads usually have work from outside Indonesia and they are making way way more than Indonesians, so if they complain I think its unfair to the locals who might jack up prices for foreigners, because its still pennies comparing to the westerners are making and they stay for long periods here
I think if there are more connections for the people who have been living amongst the locals for years, we wouldn't get this divisions between the stereotypical bali belly-drunk westerners who pees/defecate on local scared objects/places... maybe its a small amount comparing to the numbers but that's just my view... nothing against people who want to enjoy life and live especially in our country but the least people could do is learn the language I think... but if both the Balinese and the immigrants (not really expats in my opinion) are content with what's going on then it should be no problem... maybe you should also ask the Balinese of what they think?
Thanks for the discussion! Looking forward to your next videos

@@dreaming_by you absolutely right, so many foreigners don't even learn few words in Indonesian, for me is lack of respect, specially foreigners who stay longer, yet they can't be even bothered to learn local language. They deserve to pay more, beacuse they are arrogant.

The natures of Bali is damage because of the locals government, they have some regulations but still can do NEGOTIATIONS ( money talk ) , that why the investors ( locals/ foreigners ) they build properties everywhere easily without control. That is reality of Bali right now.
