  • The Echills Wood Standard Gauge Weekend is a most eagerly awaited 71/4" gauge model event which, in 2019, was held on the 13th and 14th July. I visited the railway on the Saturday, the day on which visiting owners exercise their locomotives. On the Sunday incidentally, the public can ride on the trains as seen in my video of last year's event: • THE MAGIC OF ECHILLS W...
    Twenty-nine locomotives are featured in action with more shown static. These range from A4's, a Duchess and Class 40 diesels down to Great Western 14XX and Great Eastern and Caledonian Railway 0-6-0's. To film the non-stop action I spent seven hours on site shooting 162 sequences which have been edited down to some 72 individual clips.
    My thanks to all at Echills Wood Railway, www.ewr.org.uk/, and to Brian Murphy, SYKAROST, for his assistance. I hope that you enjoy the result.

    I was a bit of a late comer to the event, only arriving just before lunchtime but it was still an amazing day. The GWR king that was newly finished and was going round with a borrowed lms tender was an absolute beauty

      Amazing day indeed Nicholas. Unfortunately I didn't capture a clip of KGV that I considered good enough to include but agree that it is a superb engine. Alan

    Alan, these days I generally shrink from the word 'amazing' but your use of it is refreshingly and entirely appropriate! A tremendous selection superb standard gauge models, beautifully maintained and turned out. Splendid captures and a mammoth editing task resulting in a really enjoyable video. My overall favourite without question is the GWR pannier tank, then multiple contenders for second place with the A4s and the Duchess at the top end. Thank you for the enjoyment of watching. Kind regards, Bob.

      Thank you for your kind words Bob. It was so enjoyable watching train after train and wondering what was coming next...just like the old days! Had it not been for the cricket I would have gone back the following day. Kind regards Alan

    Alan, I'm interested to know how you managed to get all your 162 down to 72 but I can see why it took a while to produce as you grouped several loco clips which I know can be hard going. A great production and so glad you enjoyed your....... long but satisfying day!! Regards, Brian.

    Was that an Ivatt Atlantic? 50 years ago I drove a 71/4 Henry Oakley on a private railway near Bedford, long gone. I was wondering what became of the locos.

    • @Parsound
      @Parsound  4 роки тому

      Yes, it was.

    • @TheAndrewJBaker

      Parsound the railway I helped build - but now long gone - belonged to John Crawley. It was a double track line round his Garden with sheds, turntable etc and several locos. I remember a Henry Oakley, the only one I drove in about 1970. I’d be interested to know what happened to it. At one point he planned to buy part of the Bedford Northampton line and run Sir Nigel Gresley on it. He had a huge archive of lner plans and other material. An odd man I feel.

    WHERE IS THIS LINE, BUT ALAS NO LIST OF MINIATURE RAILWAYS NOR PUBLICITY, SO ONLY LOCALS ARE IN THE KNOW- OUT OF ORDER WITH THE USUAL LACK OF PUBLICITY RIFE IN THE UK. UPPER CASE DUE TO BLURRED DOUBLE VISION.

      We also have a Facebook page, and recently an Instagram and Twitter page so if you are a user of any of those you should be able to find us. If you'd like to find more miniature railways, the 7 1/4" gauge society website has a list with locations and addresses. Hope this helps
