- In today's video, we demonstrate how we produced a Nose Cone for a Spitfire Restoration project using our Metal Spinning Craftsmanship.
For the requirements of this project, 3mm thick aluminium was used. And because this project was a bespoke, one off product made from Aluminium, we could lower tooling costs down by using Wood.
One of the benefits of Metal Spinning is low cost tooling because tooling is manufactured in relation to the life expectancy of the order. In this case, a single unit.
Metal Spinning is also great for hardening Metals, which means you can benefit from lighter, cost efficient materials like Aluminium in the Aerospace industry.

The best bit, “not to bad at all is it” craftsmanship comes in all shapes and sizes!
That boy earned his pay that day!
We were delighted with the results, as was the customer this was made for 😁
I find it interesting that you don't use a breakdown chuck or turn the edge of the blank a bit.
It depends on the component which will impact the metal spinning process. Sometimes we will turn the edge of the blank, in other times like this example, there's no need
Nice work all the same
Thanks a lot 😊
Знатный шлем.
What kind and thickness of aluminum are you using there bro? And, are you being held to aircraft tolerance on the beauties
These were spun out of 2.5mm thick Aluminium 😃 and yes we were held to aircraft tolerance as these were to be mounted onto the spitfire
I have to ask... What mark of spitfire is it for
Unfortunately we were never told which Mark, although I have asked this question. If we manage to get hold of this information, I will update you in the comments 😊
