I didn’t think this thing would actually do a thorough job, but wow we absolutely love it🌼 We have 4 dogs (short hair), a cat and a guinea pig so we really put it to the test. She’s gotten stuck a few times on kitchen mats that had pulls in them so now I pick the mats up or kick them to the side at least so she can get around. With our first baby on the way, this is worth every penny.
This was the funniest review I’ve ever seen! Your comments, along with the music and visuals, are very amusing. Thanks for helping me decide against this model. After watching your video, I’m now considering the 980, with cameras which I imagine give the Roomba a smarter way to navigate.
I ended up getting this 890 model, after all. It’s a big step up from my 500 series, which came out back in 2007. Even that one is still going strong downstairs. Neither the old one nor the new one encounter the issues you show, because my house’s layout is a simple large space downstairs (foyer/living room/dining room/kitchen), and my bedroom and bathroom upstairs. There’s nowhere really for them to get stuck. It’s true that their cleaning patterns are random and go over and over the same spots, but I find that helps the carpets get cleaner vs. the more expensive model’s single pass. Also, they’re on while I’m at work -the 500 I manually turn on as I leave, the new one automatically scheduled five days a week, so their inefficient use of battery doesn’t affect me terribly. I’ve only had to replace the 500’s battery once in all these years. If either Roomba misses a spot, I don’t when I use the Dyson once a week. Still, I nominate your video as the most fun review on the entire UA-cam universe!
I have a German ShepherdBISSELL PowerFresh Steam Mop She is only allowed on my hardwood floors in the kitchen and bathroom. The rest of the house is gated off. For 3 years I have cleaned up the dog hair in these rooms daily. She sheds a lot! Now I use my iRobot daily for this chore! Has changed my life! I love it! It does a great job of cleaning up her dog hair on floors and rugs. Only wish I would have bought one sooner!
This video is so well done and funny. I have the Roomba 890 and can relate to everything in the video. I love everything about the Roomba and it has been amazing for me; however, I 100% completely agree about the navigation. It definitely seems to have no idea where it's at or if it has cleaned a room. Mine will clean one room, leave, then come back to the same room again eventually. However, after it will clean everything if you let it run as long as it needs to. Also, mine does always re-dock itself on the charger, which is cool!
Josh Burns Tech I agree totally. I’ve had mine for a year and a half since this video and have grown to love it. It’s still cleaning 3 times a week like a champ. The navigation sucks but it cleans well. The newer models navigate more intelligently.
I Love the piggy scene lolol. I agree about the navigation tho; after using my Roomba a handful of times I was slightly disappointed with not being able to at least chart a course for it to go. I have severe OCD so I thought this would be a God-send when I bought it (albeit mines a refurbished one) but I honestly don't think it cleans the whole floor and I had to clean out the roller thingy more times than I'd like to (counter productive). It makes it unusable.
This is a very great video btw. This is my first robot anything.. not very tech savvy, had no idea what to expect, and after turning it on and seeing it stay in one area I started to wonder if something was wrong? Thank you for not making me waste valuable time having to read the directions to only figure out that there’s no way to make it change its navigation.
Roomba always goes random but it can clean most of house without stuck on WIRE,cable.According to 5 yrs use exp. of it,IT NEVER FAILS ME.No annoying problem. My roomba NEver have the warranty because i use outside Us but it was never broken.I believe if you use the "light house" you can make it clean all room in the sequence.
I have a Rombi 890 and I just let it do one room at a time it cleans everything very well. I have wool rugs and it does an excellent job. I really love mine!! I can do other things while it s cleaning!!
What would make the docking algorithm a WHOLE LOT better is if the dock was also an RF emitter like an airport navaid. The robot could use a simple receiver to judge the signal strength, and then navigate in the appropriate direction
I have one too. I compared it to the 980 and preferred the 890, because it does better under furniture. Perhaps with the new firmware update the unit performs better than in 2017.
Mine is over 3 years old and although the navigation is bad, it's still doing a great job after all this time. I ended up loving the little thing. It's still on the original battery too.
I received roborock , tested it for a few hours, then I took my iRobot to Costco immediately to return it, no hesitation, even forgot to clean the dust box. Roborock price is ¥2100, I paid almost extra ¥1000 on it for the version and tariffs, but still cheaper than iRobot.
I have been testing the 980 for the last couple of days and can say that even with the "advanced" navigation, it still bounces off obstacles to navigate. I think it is meant to do that. I assumed the camera would detect obstacles and the roomba would stop, but it doesn't. It literally has to hit everything in front of it. Still random movements, crossing the same spots multiple times and basically everything you mentioned, minus getting stuck in a room. But due to the configuration of my apartment, I don't believe it can get lost in it. I look at the map every time it finishes and boy are there some weird spaces it cleaned and some wide open points it didn't clean. Also it sometimes misses dirt right next to the edge of a carpet (my carpet is the same type as in this video, maybe a little thicker). However, my carpets look as they do when they are cleaned by professional carpet cleaners. My verdict - roomba cleans once a week for a month, then you have to vacuum with a regular vacuum cleaner
I got one, it’s ok but yes it just bounces around. It would be good if it at least remembered the house lay out. The Bluetooth wall is call but the halo setting isn’t good for a circle wall, the line must face the direction of the robo 7/10
Last night I was running my 890 and I wanted it to shut off and go home. It cleaned its way home three rooms away eventually. Took it about 15 minutes to find its home. Bathroom mats are a different story. Those will fuck up a roomba. All that said I’m not really disappointed so far. Just praying my dog doesn’t piss on it.
The Roombas w/o camera navigation are a waste of money. 960 or higher or don't bother. The 960 does a fantastic job maneuvering around all the rooms in my home.
Sanskar Kulshreshtha By remote control do you mean using the app on your phone? The 890 can also be controlled this way. It can also be programmed for scheduled cleaning.
I just this roomba. I have alot of pet hair. I ran the big vacuum yesterday. I have an area rug. All it did was leave clumps of dog hair on it. I dumped it 4 time so far. I do have 4 big dogs in the house which is a job for any robot vacuum. I bought the new Shark robot. I sent it back because of not picking up the dog hair very good. So, I thought I'd try a roomba...well it may have to go back too.
Is you home mostly carpet? My Roomba isn’t good at navigating but it does keep the floors spotless, but the home is 90% wood floors. It doesn’t manage to get all the hair off the rugs. When we vacuum the rug with the big vacuum cleaner there’s loads of hair.
Drake The 980 that you have is different from the 890. Your 980 has more advanced and strategic navigation than the 890 which uses a random bounce around approach.
What iRobot should have done for the 800 series is to have "smart" virtual barriers that have a timer to keep a Roomba in one room for 15 minutes, then barrier turns off and allows it to pass doorway then switches ON to keep bot in second room for 15 minutes and so on with another virtual wall to doorway to third room. Think Picaxe microcontrollers system but with also a sensor to detect Roomba has exited one room into another. It also does a immediate right turn from the charging base, perhaps straight into the wires under the sofa, so move your charging base around for a better "random" cleaning pattern. Lastly, put doorstops where needed or the bot may close itself into a room and be found, battery dead, in a super clean room.
I think this is just how the navigation system works on this model. I believe the high end model has a smarter navigation system and can actually map out the room like the Neato does.
On another note, I have two smaller dogs, and would like one with better navigation but also does dog hair does anyone have any suggestions which one to upgrade to?
Very disappointed in this Roomba. I live in a 2400 sq. ft condo with lots of open wood flooring, minimal obstacles but this Roomba keeps cleaning one room over and over (close to home base) and unless I lift it up and move it to another room, it doesn't clean the rest of the condo.
i just received this model secondhand 5 years late. it sure is stupid compared to the third party robot vacuums i have that i bought at half this things current price--but i suppose thats what comes with technological advancement and time. not to mention ive cleaned it and given it new brush rolls and a spin brush and filters and yet this thing is LOUD
I criticised it for its navigation, but mine is about 5 years old now and still working perfectly. I run it twice per week every week to keep up with my high shedding long haired dog and it's still on the original battery, filter and brushes. I can't believe how reliable it turned out to be. My Neato failed within 6 months.
@@Roos-Reviews ah wow, i dont have any pets, so i just use mine weekly for general dust and debris. ive kept whatever battery it came with as a secondhand, so i dont know if it was ever replaced in its lifetime. ive got some area rugs that it cant handle, because it sees the occasional 2 inch wide black lines in the rug's pattern and thinks its falling off a cliff and cries for help with error codes so i have to block off those areas. ive also got a shark iq and a yeedi for about two years now which are doing well so far
So many places claim this to be excellent for pet hair 🙄. No, no it's not. Sometimes yes, sometime no. Nothing more aggravating than seeing it ran for over an hour, open it up to see little hair in the bin. Why? Because the suction vent past the rollers is clogged with hair.
Ryan Hansell I have a double coated dog that sheds a lot and the Roomba does a great job with that hair. My home has hard floors though. On carpet it might be a different story.
