I picked one up at a garage sale (a 585) and it worked great. So I got another for upstairs (880)--all carpet except tile bathrooms. I have wood floors down except the master and tried it out (the floors looked clean initially). it took a couple days to cover everything (and the dust bin would fill), but after that it maintains and there is only about 1/3rd bin each time--my floors stay spotless. OK, maybe you might want to touch up some corners but only once a month--it covers everything else and better than my kids sweeping.
In your test you threw stuff there that I wouldn't even let my two Kirby's swallow (long tinsel strings)--these are things you should always pick up first (take out the trash before you vacuum). You also didn't let the Roomba finish. It's not a toy, it works fantastic and I highly recommend it. Dad (5 kids, BIG house, lots of sweeping and lots of former "please sweep" gripes--now gone).

I had a Roomba once. I also had a house and a cat named Snickerz, like the candy bar only not spelled the same. Everything started off pretty good and normal at first. That was, until the Roomba became self aware and developed thought. I remember it just like it was yesterday. It all started when I put up those "artificial wall" thingies. At first Roomba would come up to the arty wall then stop, and turn around and go about his merry way, cleaning up all the dirt in sight. But one day when Roomba approached the arty wall, he just stopped for a few minutes. He'd do this every day for a solid week, each time stopping longer than the previous time. I know now that Roomba was testing the device for weaknesses, ever trying to find a way to get past the arty wall that his programming would not allow him to do. Then one day, I came home from work early and caught Roomba in an area of the house that was beyond the arty wall. He immediately turned around and went back into the allowed zone as if nothing happened. If only I had done something to disable him that day, perhaps, well, perhaps, Snickerz would still be alive today. Instead I decided to make the cleaning zone smaller using the arty walls. That didn't help matters. Roomba seems to have resented me for doing that and took great personal offense. At night when I would sleep, I'd hear the faint sweeping of Roomba, drawing closer, and closer until one night I opened one eye and there was Roomba; past the arty walls and "staring" at me while I lay trembling in my bed. Then as cool as he came into my room that night, he turned and went on his way back to his charging station. I wasn't sure what to do. While I got ready for work the next morning I heard a loud screech from Snickerz. I ran into the hallway at the top of the steps only to find Snickerz at the bottom landing, laying motionless. Snickerz had slipped on some marbles. Marbles that I fear were meant for me. I can't prove it but I know that Roomba must have vacuumed up my toy marbles and dropped them at the top of the steps. Perhaps this was his revenge for me shrinking his cleaning zone. I went for my shot gun! There was no way I was going to let Snickerz die in vain! But before I could load the gun the smoke alarms went off. I can only deduce that Roomba short circuited his charging station so that the house would catch on fire. I had to evacuate or else I too would be dead. Needless to say the whole house went up in flames, burning all the evidence of Roomba's mischief and the murder of Snickerz. The firemen searched and searched but there was no remains of Roomba's casing. He must have escaped before the flames engulfed the house. To this day, I don't know where Roomba went...but sometimes, late at night when I'm drifting off to sleep in my new home (the empty cardboard box that Roomba came in); I swear I can hear sweeping noises...

This's by far the worst technology review I seen... she's unknowledgeable about the product she reviews you can't just make a big mess and throw the robot in middle on top of the mess and expect it to clean everything. it picks up dust it a vacuum not a air sucker. they shouldn't have had to put any of the stringy silver stuff as it gets stuck in the robot

Have had the 880 for over a year. It runs daily, and with the exception of logical maintenance (removing buildup of my wife's hair from the brushes, dirt, replacing filters, brushes etc) it has been problem free.
By running daily it keeps our home clean. It has fully taken the place of a standalone vacuum. We never pull out the big boy anymore.
I highly recommend it for hassle free home cleanage. Cant wait for surface wiping robots to clean counters and such lol

  • @lv3635

I love when people complain how expensive Roomba is. Yet we all have $800 phones in our pockets, a tablet or two, laptops that cost $1000 or more, tv's that cost more than a grand as well. So then why not get a vacuum robot that will make your life so much easier for $500-$700?! And people saying it's slow, really? Who gives a shit, as long as it can clean it in under 8 hours I'm happy.

  • @kim2848
    @kim2848 8 років тому

I have a Neato Botvac 80 and recently purchased a Roomba 880. I only used Neato in my kitchen, dining room, and laundry room/bathroom. The rest of the house, it had to work too hard and it was always getting stumped on something so I had to vacuum it with my regular vacuum. The Neato was like watching a 2 year old and I had to get up constantly. My roomba is so much better. When I first had it up and running, I put it in the most complicated room that Neato couldn't do. The room has two tables, a free standing bar, 4 bar stools, and 2 lazy boy chairs and an end table. It went through the room like a hot knife through butter and I love it MUCH more than my Neato which I will keep for about 1/3 of my house. I thought it cleaned better as well. I'll be a Roomba customer from now on.

Ok my experience with roomba 6 series is that it it completely sufficient for daily use and it keeps apartment floor clean. If you want to relay only on roomba for cleaning floor than you should schedule your roomba to clean floor at least 5 times in a week, otherwise it does not feel like floor is vacuumed enough. I have 70 sq m apartment, but I use roomba mainly for living room kitchen and hallway. And also it depends on layout of your apartment how efficient roomba is. If you have small rooms wth a lot of thing on the floor than roomba will get stuck and just wont do its job. So this is my review. :D

It'd clean a whole lot better if it wasn't tangled up. Also, instead of using the regular Clean mode, setting the robot in the middle of the mess and pressing Spot would make it clean a 4 ft circle.
The Roomba isn't designed to do a quick sweep up. It's made to do its thing while you do other stuff. An average cleaning cycle takes about an hour, covering the floor multiple times with its randomized cleaning pattern (that's right, random by design, and it works quite well).
And yes, the Roomba cleans better than a standard upright vacuum when run regularly (and uninterrupted). When I first got my 500 series Roomba, it was put to the test. After using a standard vacuum 3 times over in our living room, the Roomba still managed to pick up dirt and dust left behind (that randomized pattern makes the carpet lay in different directions, exposing dirt otherwise untouched). Use the Roomba for a while and you'll likely abandon the upright (source: I've owned 6 Roombas in all, 3 currently, over the last 10 years).

Isn't the point of a Roomba to clean the floor?
    Because, well, IT DIDN'T!
What's the point of a cleaning machine if it doesn't clean?

I mean if your house is really as dirty as what they were testing the iRobot on then you need to clean more. the iRobot is to clean up like your normal vacuum would, and considering how much crap was on the ground thanks to Lew and the mess fairy, I think the Roomba did a good job.

You look stunning on those cloths.. From start to end I was looking at you (not in creepy way though, I respect you) instead of that creepy robot. BTW, nice surprise seeing Lew.

it probably was going back and forth because the detectors were being loaded with tinsel stuck everywhere. was this somewhat enjoyable? yeah but definitely does not really show me what the roomba can do

'Efficient pet' seriously? We have a living vacuum cleaner. Munching, cooking, whatever, drop something on the floor, yell "SOPHIE!" And in comes the dog to clean up the mess. Much cuter than a robot.
I'll grant you tho, she doesn't do dust and hairballs... :(
That's where the robot comes in... ;)

+KylliX then we'd just have to give her a bath. Which she'd due for anyway but that's beside the point.
Besides, she sheds like crazy so all that would accomplish is getting more dog hair all over everything... :)
