Every Muppet Ranked | Tier List

- The Muppets as a tier ranking was a difficult task. I love all of these characters. With the new Muppets Mayhem show out I thought this would be a fun time and also a way to show how these characters are still loved and have changed over time, moving up and down the rankings as they've cycled in and out new characters.

@@smcphee8499 What about your D & F tiers?
@@tuckerhawkey9561 I didn’t care to do the rest. But I guess I will since you asked.
@@smcphee8499 Fair enough
Team Gonzo all the way.
I loved him most since his very shy performance on the Muppet Show, ‘I’m going to go back there some day’ may not be as flashy but it’s the most heartfelt and emotional song, as a character he’s evolved and grown and come out of his shell (very much the same as Gonzo performer Dave Goelz) over the years. And gotta love a weirdo.
Gonzo is great! I think most people initially like him because he's funny, but there is something deep to understand with him. "I'm Going to Go Back There Some Day" is really an emotional song and absolutely underrated. He's a perfectly fleshed out character that's so relatable.
@@ModernMouse In an odd way I really relate to Gonzo, not so much the weirdo-ness, but the early Gonzo shyness, who loves what he does and what he enjoys but has a certain uncertainty about it.
I also think when it comes to Gonzo, Dave Goelz is such an important part of the character’s story. Dave was a very shy guy who doubted that he was talented enough to be a Muppeteer, let alone embody a specific Muppet. Decades later, the confidence of both Goelz and Gonzo in who they are and what they do is just so visible there on the screen. Sorry, I love both Goelz and Gonzo so much.
Gonzo all the way
There is no reality where Joe The Legal Weasel from Muppets Now is even remotely in the same ballpark as Johnny Fiama and Sal Minella.
Zoot is incredible, I love his camera and his terrible memory. I love his camera and his terrible memory. I love his camera and his terrible memory.
Rowlf didn’t come before all of the muppets, he was one of the earlier ones, but Kermit was the first muppet Jim Henson ever made. He made Kermit for WRC TV’s Sam & Friends. Rowlf was made after Sam & Friends by Don Sahlin for dog related commercials, and The Jimmy Dean Show.
I believe Pierre the French Rat was actually one of (if not THE first) Muppets Jim Henson made! He was in high school when he and a friend built him together and he showed up/was reused on Sam and Friends. :]
@@theintrovertedsquare Kermit was the first, not really being used much until they got Sam and friends on the air. Pierre was the second, who Jim used to pitch sam and friends. So yes he was one of the early ones, but Kermit was the first.
@@The_DoodleGuy Pierre originated from a comic strip that Henson drew in 1954 for his high school. In that same year, Pierre was made into a puppet for The Junior Morning Show, which was extremely short-lived. Despite only running for two weeks, it was Jim Henson's start in television, before he worked on Sam and Friends.
The earliest Kermit puppet was built in March of 1955 and he made his first official appearance on the WRC-TV series, Afternoon (recordings seem to be lost, but descriptions of broadcasts were published in print materials like newspapers). Shortly afterwards, he would appear on Sam and Friends. The rest is history~
While Kermit is indeed one of Henson's earliest creations, Pierre is widely considered to be the first Muppet star. At the very least, it is confirmed that he predates Kermit and is the oldest surviving Muppet that Jim has created.
@@theintrovertedsquare Man! You got me beat there, clearly I don’t know quite as much as you, and I’ve never known anyone who can point out a muppet fact that I didn’t already know! I’ve read Jim’s biography, and I can’t seem to recall it talking about that, not saying it didn’t, I’m just saying I don’t remember!
As much as Clifford and Lips are my favorites, I think putting them around the b and c tiers is fair. I love that Lips is making a comeback, and I really hope this means Clifford won’t be far behind. Fingers crossed
The Muppets Mayhem show really did a lot for those characters. I know the showrunners want to continue to do shows like it, pulling just a few characters from the gang and building something around them. I wouldn't mind seeing what Clifford is up to these days.
thog not being included is a crime
Thank you for this video it was amazing. I really need to watch the ABC show and Electric Mayhem show and the tonight show now.
I really love the muppets. They are the reason I found your amazing channel! I hope you do more muppet videos and some deep dives?
Keep it up Mate!
The 2015 ABC show and the new Mayhem are both top-tier Muppets content mate. You will not be disappointed 😊
I can't disagree with any of these. I think the distribution was pretty close to "Normal." (If one can call anything associated with the Muppets as "Normal.") I think that Lew Zealand certainly deserves his ranking because he is just so, well, bonkers. But what really made me cheer is your high placement of the Swedish Chef. And this from someone who is fairly literate in Swedish, and so is fully aware that everything he says is gibberish. (But such fun gibberish.) One other point: Sweetums had a role in 1971's "The Frog Prince," which might be why some are so fond of him. He made, well, an impact.
It seems quite strange seeing them all laid out cause it just feels like there should be way more but I guess when you exclude characters with limited appearances like mahna mahna snowth Marvin Suggs etc there is kind of not really some great amount in the main cast
I could have added dozens more characters but this video would have been 2+ hours long at that point. I felt like this was the best approach, but I do love a lot of those bit players or popular bits like Mahna Mahna. It's almost overwhelming when you see those photos of every muppet ever so I felt like this was a good option. It is weird though. It feels like there should be more.
Lew Zealand gave me one of my favorite jokes in the original Muppet Show. When Miss Piggy tried to trick Kermit into marrying her. Kermit was supposed to say "I do" but he said Ladies and Gentlemen Lew Zealand and his dying boomerang fish. Then Ms. Piggy chased Kermit. LOL I would put him in B.
I feel like the boomerang fish is such a Muppet type of joke that it really works, more so than Crazy Harry does with just blowing stuff up. I've always thought he was funny, one dimensional, but still a great gag to pull out from time to time.
Dr Teeth is awesome imo
He is awesome. The Disney+ series really added a ton to his character.
How dare you diss my boy Link Hogthrob like that? He is the highlight of every Pigs In Space sketch!
Edit: ROWLF behind CAMILLA??? Rowlf is S tier, for sure! Great video btw
I'm a big fan of Rowlf too, but I was trying to think objectively. Thanks for watching!
Will not tolerate this Johnny Fiama slander
Team Rowlf for me!
I have a real soft spot for Rowlf. He's so underrated but such a great friend to everyone. He's the positive friend you'd always want to turn to.
YEAH ROWLF TEAM FOREVER!
@@2CupsOfOrangeJuice-c5e ROWLF SUPREMACY!
@@ModernMouseYou can’t live with him, you can’t live without him. There’s something irresistible-ish about him.
Based on your established rules i think most are pretty close. Though i really do miss Rizzo.
I also miss Rizzo. The Rizzo-Gonzo team was just too great!
I used to like the Muppets, but the toxic muppet fanbase made me really put a bad taste in my mouth. And the worst part is that Frank Oz is the most toxic of these people, and the toxic muppet fans often cite Frank Oz's comments to justify their toxicity.
I understand what you mean. I think we are over that hump (hopefully) at this point. I know people will always have their opinions, and of course Disney's ownership of the characters will always be a debate, but I've heard nothing but positivity around the new Muppets Mayhem show.
@@ModernMouse it started after Jim Henson died, and then all the oldhead muppet fans started hating on Barney. They viciously attacked Barney, because.....he was nice, and kind to children, and sang songs and told them that he loved them. And apparently that was some extreme cardinal sin to the oldhead muppet fans. How dare Barney be kind, and sweet, show love to everybody. And Elmo was the Muppets answer to Barney. And the same toxic muppet fans, started hating on Elmo too. They hated Elmo for what reason? Because he had a popular toy that laughed when you tickled? Really? Laughing was such a horrible crime, theat they felt the need to bash Elmo? That's what really made me fall out of love with the Muppets. I still like them, but it's tainted love. As someone who loves Barney, and loves Elmo, I just can't ever forgive the toxic muppet fandom for what they did. There were full grown adults in the 90s, bashing preschool characters. Even though a lot of them have since come around, and said that it was incredibly stupid that they hated Barney and Elmo so much. A lot of them haven't. And Frank Oz has only been adding fuel to the fire.
As someone who still loves the Muppets, it seems like the fanbase resembles the Star Wars fanbase more and more, especially after the Steve Whitmire debacle.
@@nataliejarosz9360 I was over it as soon as they started attacking Barney and Elmo. And it would be one thing if it was a justified attack. But what was Barney's horrible crimes against humanity? Being nice. Saying I love you. They had events where they took turns killing Barney. Setting Barney on fire, shooting him, decapitating him, bludgeoning him. You have to be a psychopath to do that type of stuff as an adult in the 90's. And now those same people are the ones shocked that there's so many school shootings and violent acts. You were the same people who believed that spreading love and kindness is a horrible thing, and should be murdered for it. Same with Elmo. They hated Elmo why? And what exactly was Elmo charged with that made Elmo deserving of brutal death? Having a popular plush toy that laughed when you tickled him.
@@nataliejarosz9360 there is something wrong with you, if you're a full grown adult, in the 90s, and you're irrationally mad at a fictional show for preschoolers. Those people need serious therapy, and medication. What grown adult in the 90s, would go to an event just to kill Barney and Elmo, who are both fictional characters. And the reason that you're irrationally mad, is because they were spreading kindness. That's not normal. I'm not some huge fan of Blippi. But I'm not a psychopath who wishes death on Blippi. Blippi exists, kids like it, and I'm fine with that. Because I'm an adult, and that's how adults are supposed to behave in the real world.
cookie monster is best muppet thats just science u cant argue with science
I mean...who am I to argue with science!
Big meal Carl ??? I’ll help you - S tier
When you put Animal at A instead of S, I stopped watching. Sorry.
Don't be sorry. I'm happy to disagree because I am not the definitive Muppet ranker. We all have our personal thoughts and opinions. I might suggest, instead, that you watch my video all about the history of Animal. (ua-cam.com/video/cWQmPEJ_qVI/v-deo.html)
I am coming into this video with no context, and assuming that Miss Piggy falls into the top 3, if not the #1 spot. By your own criteria, she should get top points for personality and longevity...meaning its just personal preference that could stand in her way from taking the crown. Pending on how this goes, I might have to craft that response video....
You can't change my preferences Matt!
Team Dr Teeth and Team Uncle Deadly
Team Walter love that little guy deserves higher
I know plenty of people who hate him but I don't get the hate.
Sam the eagle for me
Muppet game
If animal isn’t #1 I’m gonna disagree
I hope you aren't completely mad at me then
You made a good case. Great video
What about Digit?
Zoot is incredible, I love his camera and his terrible memory. I love his camera and his terrible memory. I love his camera and his terrible memory.
