  • Arma Hobby has made a fearsome name for itself with its excellent 1/72 aircraft kits, and the new 1/48 Hurricane marks a rare foray into larger scales. After years of almost-not-quite releases, Hurricane fans finally have a new tool kit worth celebrating.
    Sincere thanks to Grzegorz for sending a review copy my way!
    This one was built to completion. I'm a big believer that inbox reviews only tell you so much, and the world is sorely lacking actual build reviews. So this is my small part of trying to change that.

    I've been really enjoying 1/72 Arma hobby kit's since they started bringing out the various hurricanes and love everything they have done since, they are right up there with Eduard and Tamiya in terms of engineering and quality in the 1/72 range.

    The vertical stab does have the cant to it on the real aircraft. There was no rudder trim tab either in the Hurri so pilots would be holding a boot full of rudder during a climb to keep it heading straight.

    For me this is the best WW2 fighter kit in 1/48. I have it, didn’t start the build yet, but the details and rivets everywhere are just amazing and do small

    Great review chap. Far better than these un boxing things. I have this one to build but the main production run ones without 3D print. I think master have produced cannons now, just have to add belts, up lock stirrups and light lamp holders. I am sure I saw someone had printed some. I guess the tail works so well as I believe it is pretty much how the real thing goes together. The offset would be for torque compensation I guess (our Gazelle helicopters had a cambered fin along the same lines). Yea it ain't pretty but the hurricane did the most damage in 1940, particularly in the hands of our Czech and Polish friends, and in the Far East, as a ground attack aircraft....bloody hell😳😎. It just worked....hey, I am exe Army and still love a hurri

    Can confirm this kit is awesome. For such a new company, ARMA is swinging for the fences and out performing brands that have been around since the 50s.
    I did find a few mid labeled parts in the instructions but other than that, it was drama free. Definitely recommend it and can’t wait to see Doog’s final product. These HurriBombers got fiiiiiiilthy.

      It’s fantastic to see Arma’s uncompromising approach, but by “Outperforming brands from the ‘50’s”, I assume you mean “entering the business at the current state of the art and benefitting from what other model companies have been learning since the ‘50’s”.

    Nice to hear from you Doog. This looks fantastic. Interesting take on surface detail from Kotare - they obviously can do it well; I wrote to them to query the lack of detail on the tailplanes of their Spitfire. To their credit, Richard Alexander wrote straight back to me explaining that they'd made a deliberate judgement call, and that the screws and flush rivets were all but invisible in even the best WWII era photos and for authenticity they decided that they are best not represented in 1/32 scale. I think their attention to detail and engineering is fantastic, but I suspect that at 1/32 scale they made the wrong call for a lot of people's tastes. (By the way, I have no problem with them not including an engine).

    • @DoogsModels
      @DoogsModels  11 місяців тому

      Yeah. I know their reasoning and while it's probably more accurate, it's a case where I'd rather they exaggerate a bit. Eduard's Spitfires are a great example of doing so.

    think I can con you into building the Takom AH-64E? Would love to see a professional approach to building this masterpiece of a model...with the questionable set of instructions Takom includes. By far one of the hardest kits Ive ever put together.

    Thanks for a great build review. I’ve been really excited to see how this kit was going to turn out, and it looks like it didn’t disappoint.
    Any thoughts on the other stock plastic bits for those of us who won’t have the pre-order version with resin bits? You advise that we should get aftermarket exhausts… are the kit ones unusable? What about the guns and the seat?
    Can’t wait to get my hands on this! Hopefully some vendors will have these at Nats…

    • @DoogsModels
      @DoogsModels  11 місяців тому +1

      I'd definitely hope for aftermarket seat and guns in the absence of kit 3D. The kit parts are OK but just outclassed by 3DP.
      LionHeart Hobby will be at Nats and they have close to 30 of these arriving on Monday or so.

    Thx for the review.
    I was a little put off by the F-bombs and scatalogical references...
    When I asked myself why a Polish company picked the Hurricane as one of their initial 1/48 subjects, it occurred to me that so many Polish pilots fought in Hurricanes, and a modeling need remained to do this a/c justice in 1/48th scale.

    Hi, good to see you back. Its a shame that the Hurricane doesn't light a lot of peoples fire. It operated in loads of theatres in WWII even out to the far east with bomber and rocket variants. I guess it always lived in the shadow of the Spitfire and was becoming a bit dated by the end of the war. This is a very nice kit though and I am looking fwd to building it.

    Other reviews refer to the raised rivets (which are accurate of course) might cause issues with the decals potentially not laying down well. What are your thoughts on that? thanks for the review

    • @DoogsModels
      @DoogsModels  11 місяців тому

      I've encountered raised rivets/decals on to recent builds (ICM OV-10 and Kotare Spitfire) and the raised detail definitely requires a bit more motivating the decals down. It's one place where I really like AK Decal Adapter.

    I hate to hear you are indifferent about the Hurricane, because I dared to hope you might build the new Revell 1/32 offering. As you note, the Hurricane is a historically significant airplane, yet it is sadly unrepresented among recently tooled 1/32 kits. Of all WWII fighter kits, only a really modern 1/32 Hellcat has been more notable by its absence.

    Seems to be a bit on the pricey side for a 1/48 kit of a single engine prop fighter. The inclusion of a mask is great, but this thing seems to be priced like an Edward ProfiPack without PE or resin bits.

    • @DoogsModels
      @DoogsModels  11 місяців тому +1

      Arma is selling it for €45 which seems reasonable to me for a 2023 new tool kit. Especially with 3D parts.

    • @davidkendall1614
      @davidkendall1614 11 місяців тому

      @@DoogsModels That’s not so bad. Then you have to factor in shipping which seems to have skyrocketed since COVID. But pricing seems to be all over the map. For example, SuperHobby selling for 44 Euro ($66 Canadian to me), but $91 CAD at Hobby Link Japan (PLUS Shipping). The latter is steep. Even pre-order pricing at local shops is around $80. Hopefully the price will settle after the kit is around for a bit. Are the 3D parts in the production kit or just your early run example?

    • @Flingwing24
      @Flingwing24 7 місяців тому

      The 3D parts were just in the pre order and not production kits. No PE frets either so you will need belts and UC up lock stirrups but it is still an amazing kit. A benchmark by all accounts. I have their PZL11c as well which is a beauty.
