    I recently received a rocket amp in A and rocket low D for Christmas after blowing reeds on my special 20 and was incredibly impressed. Beautiful sound, easy bending very responsive, in short an absolute pleasure to play. Great job hohner with these harmonicas.

    So far in my journey of playing harps this is my favorite harmonica to play. Smooth, loud and quite air tight, Stupid easy to maintain a seal while playing. Same reed plates as the Hohner special 20 but slightly more screws holding the reed plates to the comb. I Always add even more screws from my old and retired harps to improve the air tightness of this harp. As you can say I modify my harps just a little.Although debatable being anyone's favorite harp to play I love the ease of keeping a seal with the reeds that seem to always be in tune from the factory while playing the music I enjoy playing through the wonderfully forgiving plastic comb. Although some players don>t like the plastic comb Ob y journey of harp playing ever since I discovered the Rocket Amp Harp I have Included these in my collection playing these harps in all of my most frequently played keys as well as having new Hohner Rocket Amp back up harps to be available whenever I blow out a reed.

    Are the cover plates interchangeable? What I'd like to do is to take a Rocket cover plates and put them onto a Rocket Low to make a Rocket Low with side vents. Is that possible without other mods?

    I am still unsure if i should get a Rocket Amp or stay with the Pro Harp.
    From the Progressive Series i've only got the Rocket Low in D and it plays really nice and easy, just cleaning is a bit more work.
    The Pro Harp plays also very beautiful but cost less than the Rocket/Amp, so if i would buy 3 different keys from the Rocket, i would get 4 Pro Harps for the same price.
    Also the Pro Harp has more different keys available.

    These retail for $129 in Australia, which is highway robbery. I'm honestly not sure how Hohner can justify the price.

    I purchased the Rocket Amp key of C and my boyfriend and I have just fell in love with it. Its Christmas time and I want to purchase a Rocket Low for him. What key would best pair with the Rocket amp c? We love the bluesy boogywoogie slightly rockabilly sound. Just need some advice on which pairing would maximize the bluesy sound .

    Rocket is fine..But I prefer my Marine Band, Crossover,Thunderbird & also Meisterklasse 580...Steve & Joe Rock's..Instead of Rocket.. I'll go for Yoneberg..They're not Inferior either at few extra Buck's.. 😂 Anyway that's my own opinion.. Though I began with 2 Golden Melody & One Thorens way back in 1977..

    On every review of the Rocket, they say that the side vents make the instrument louder. Then the Rocket Amp comes along and says that removing them makes it louder? Which is it? Or will they keep re-adding and re-removing the vents until blowing into the instrument creates a sonic boom?

    • @Harmonica123
      @Harmonica123  4 роки тому +3

      side vents=louder however one could argue that if you play the Rocket Amp (no side vents) into a bullet mic that you could direct more air into the mic which could make it a bit louder. that said, acoustically speaking the Rocket is louder than the amp for this reason. one thing is for sure they have a different sound. the Rocket is brighter than the Rocket Amp.

      Sonic Boom,lol. And besides, loudness was never really an issue with the harmonica anyway, they’re already very loud instruments
      Unless you’re playing with a rock band in which case you need to run it through an amp anyway so it doesn’t really make a difference

    Is the word Amp in Rocket Amp saying anything meaningful?

    • @Harmonica123
      @Harmonica123  4 роки тому +4

      yes, they intended the harmonica to be featured with "amplified" harp..bullet mic through an amp. This is because the side vents are closed off helping to dirct all of the air into the mic for the best amplified tone.

    • @EeshanMalhotra
      @EeshanMalhotra 4 роки тому

      Ronnie Shellist Gotcha. For unamplified playing do you notice a difference between the two? (That is the rocket and the rocket amp)

    • @Harmonica123
      @Harmonica123  4 роки тому +3

      @@EeshanMalhotra yes because the rocket amp is inherently darker with regards to its' tone and the Rocket is bright. Similar comparison would be the Special 20 and the Crossover for the same reasons.

    my problem with rocket amp is the green comb. I know should not care about what people's opinion about my instrument but the small size of harmonica makes a lot of people think it is as a toy (I believe all harmonica players well aware about that). And then Hohner decides to give a green comb :)
    Maybe if I play a little bit better, then I can proof to people that harmonica is a serious instrument, despite the green comb hahahah.

    • @norfolknwhey4787
      @norfolknwhey4787 2 роки тому

      It’s one of my favorite because of the toy appearance. Nothing is better than the weird looks you get waiting to come in on a beat while holding what’s looks like a cheap toy... then blowing their socks off with the tone and playability. Love my rockets!
      Sidenote, I’ve found EBay to be the best place to get them... I frequently get them for $40 by sending an offer to a seller, and if you buy with PayPal you have full buyer protection.

    • @Harmonica123
      @Harmonica123  4 роки тому +2

      The special 20 is its' own thing, the Rocket also has its' own sound and feel; as well as the Rocket Amp. The differences are in the rounded corners, open side vents or none and larger channel openings on the Rocket etc..not just the sound that they produce. the more time you spend with each of them, the more you can appreciate their differences.

      @@Harmonica123 I understand what you are saying and I and others highly value and trust your harmonica playing opinion. awesome player and teacher............hohner deserve the all the accolades they get.....tone......quality etc.but there is absolutely no excuse for not putting screws in cover plates.....rounding corners......sealing the combs......on every model........you can get it on others for the same price or less...........I like the marine bands I have................but the marine band design is archaic and primitive and rather than update the special 20 they add things that should have been added long ago.........modest price increase...sure.....not nearly double
