One fact about a Golden Melody. The reeds are precisely tuned but they are FRAGILE. The GM just doesn’t hold up to bending and deep digging blues playing.
I'm in the midst of trying three of them. I have the SP 20 and the "old" GM (in several keys). Waiting for my first Rocket to show up. I'm happy with the SP 20 and I really like the styling and comfort of the GM. The tone of the Rocket sounds so good I have to try it.
Harp snobs can say all they want. The special 20 is most likely the greatest harmonica ever made. Sure there’s others out there. Pretty good ones. But the special 20 can play any style, it’s bright and loud, it’s responsive, consistent and affordable.
@@JRayBama Hey dude, I am a little bit confused about picking my first harmonica. I checked out the websites and youtube videos, but I couldn't decide to buy whether Marine Band 1896 Classic or Special 20. Could you please help me with that? By the way, I am from Turkey and want to play some folk music as well as rock.
Ali Berk Can Yıldırım go with the special 20. For sure. You can try the marine band later and you’ll see what I mean. The marine band has a comb that is made out of wood, the holes are a little smaller as well. The ease of playability and comfort that the special 20 has is PERFECT for your first harmonica.
Great presentation Ronnie, seen the chromatics first and you were great, but on the diatonics you're simply the champ, your style shine and already familiar! Cheers!
Think he means special 20 lol and they are amazing but yes the rocket is easier to hit the single notes with larger holes the golden melody is best sounding for single notes and by far my favourite is the crossover amazing little piece of kit 👌
Hi. I have 2 questions Is the Special 20 a good harmonica for someone just starting out? (in comparison to the Rocket) Also, which Special 20 is better? The one in Progressive series or the one in the Marine Band?
Harshit Chawla I think the old ones in the Marine band series look better, but I can’t really compare them as I haven’t played one. I am happy with my progressive series ones though.
Definitely go with a special 20. You will find yourself still playing special 20s 10 years later, and admitting that while other harps are pretty good in different ways, nothing beats it.
@@mikebottiaux5850 I think I'm gonna go with the special 20 just because they're a little less loud while I'm learning to play. If I stick with it I'll try rocket or crossover probably as my 2nd.
I was kinda thinking that since the rocket has larger channels it might easier for a beginner to learn on, maybe making the notes easier to hit and navigate. But I also wonder if it would then be more beneficial to learn on something else first then move to that, maybe smaller channels would help hone your precision a little better...I dont know...
Thanks for the video I’ve been fighting over the Sp20 and the GM, for about a week. Seriously wanting the Sp20 now but the rocket low sounds incredibly nice I like the MB365 that low and sord of tired rasp sound I believe the rocket low seems to be that but with a plastic cone
Don't start arguing to each other. It depends what music/style you play. I play the blues on a Hohner "Pro Harp MS" (C). Great instrument but nobody tested those Series. I will get some A,C, Bb as Special 20 since they are cheaper.
This is very informative, but whoever invented the technique of filming the speaker from the side when they're talking to the audience should be tarred and feathered! I find it most annoying.
Man, blues harmonicas are the most boring shitty instrument because blues harmonica play is too easy too learn, and people don’t bother learning more complicate music
Eh, the harmonica is actually quite versatile and has unique qualities that are different than other wind instruments. If you want to hear technical music that’s not Blues, I suggest check out Howard Levy playing bebop, his Paganini-inspired 3rd movement of his concerto with orchestra, or his ground breaking work with The Flecktones.
Special 20s is my pick!

Completely unfamiliar with the Rocket Low; thanks for the info and the beautiful performances!

Lets hear Sanford n Son theme!!!! 😁🇺🇸💖
Great Video. Thanks Ronnie.
Do you recommend rocket to beginners? Are bigger holes better for beginners or vise versa?
Get a super 20s bro, trust me, best beginner harmonica for sure

What's that song he played on the GM ??

Is the Special 20 a good harmonica for someone just starting out? (in comparison to the Rocket)
Also, which Special 20 is better? The one in Progressive series or the one in the Marine Band?
Jp Allen suggests special 20 progressive series..
Thanks. I bought one about 2 months ago. Really happy with the progressive and this reply is re assuring that I made the right choice!

Special 20s is the perfect beginner harmonica...AND perfect expert harp!
I’ve been playing the Special 20 model since the early 70’s. Today I received my first Rocket and absolutely love the design & sound.
Which do you think is best for beginners?
@@jimmynich4791 I think the Rocket & Special 20 would both be good choices for the beginner and advanced player.

Stephen Carmickle That wouldn’t make a difference at all. I always recommend that people start out on a special 20.
Anyone here know the tune at around 3:50?
SamFrancis boogie woogie
@@cue_khb Thanks, man!!!
Hope this helps with the notes.

No problem.
What do side vents do?
allow more volume to come out and also make for a slightly brighter harmonica
Does anybody know where from is that lick he does at 03:45?
its boogie rhythm, he has a tutorial right here ua-cam.com/video/le8B5OpRsII/v-deo.html

I couldn't find a rocket one but I did find a Rocket Amp. Can anyone tell me the difference between the Amp and the original one?

whats the name of the FIRST SONG HE HAS EVER PLAYED ? i want to learn it
Bomb Quest Oh Susanna
Sir, How much does it cost ?
Special 20’s are in the 40’s not sure about the rest tho

Special 20s is such a good harp but it looks so crappy! I have a few and a couple of marine bands. Great harps
