I think in the formula you should use load of the structure and not bearing capacity of soil! Then after finding the depth, you calculate the total load acting on the base and compare it with the bearing capacity. If the total load from the structure (including footing load) is less than or equal to the bearing capacity, then your design is safe.

i think design of depth of foundation doesnt affect structure load, but you can calculate the required size of footing by this structure load.
