Footings are the most important components of a structure. The main function of them is to transfer loads of the structure to the underlying soil. Hence it becomes very important to provide the proper size of footing to carry a given set of loads. The size of footing depends on the size of the column, the load it has to carry, and the soil bearing capacity.

Depends on the loads and bearing capacity of the soil.
This is explained so clearly and the formula is quite understandable
Size of col is 300 × 450. Then how depth of col taken as D=450MM. PL BRIEF. FURTHER WHERE EVER IS CODE REFETENCE COME. IS CODE NUMBER MAY PL BE GIVEN FOR MORE CLERANCE ON GROUND.

10% extra weight is the weight of footing portion (assumed to be equal to 10% of the weight of column for preliminary calculations)
