Nice positive roll offs on that waveform, you surely cleaned it up for the best. Harmonic splatter is power being lost, wasted on adjacent frequencies causing serious bleed over. Yet again sir, great job Ground Control!!!
I’m really trying to learn how to read all the oscope readings and such. Talk about a rabbit hole now. Lol. Really like the way you break it down and explain the work you do. I currently run a Stryker 655 done by a local radio to me. It has worked good for me. But I’d really like to see it run through your hands and make sure it’s a clean radio.
Thanks for tuning in sir, to be honest there are a lot of videos on UA-cam that pertain to learning how to operate and read an oscilloscope properly, unfortunately I don’t have a video like that but just may record one in the future. For me, seeing a guy wanting to learn the tech side of the hobby is just awesome, like a boxer trainer sees a natural fighter and just wants to help improve his skill, yup that’s me! Best wishes to your learning curve brother, and if any help is needed just come on by and let me know. 73
First, that is CLEAN radio room...Those little 980s are good radios. mine is always on frequency. 3 watts swinging 10 watts into a liitle RM Italy 203 can get you heard , especially on sideband. I don't use it too much nowadays, I have too many other radios. The ONLY problem with the 980 is the fading display.
Howdy Ground Control 204, I'm wondering if you can help me out with a problem I have? This is about to drive me nuts... This is what I'm trying to figure out. I want to add an amp to my uniden bearcat 980 ssb. I was told that the RM Italy KL503 HD will work with my radio. The specks on the radio are, Output Power AM: 4 Watts; USB/LSB 12Watts PEP The specs on the KL503 HD are Input power 1 - 30 Watt FM SSB, 1 - 21 Watt AM. I want to ad an amp that wont require that any adjustments to be made on the inside of the radio. I'd surly appreciate any help you give. Being new to this stuff, I'm as green as a shamrock ..... Thanks ahead of time, and I've liked and subscribed to your channel.
As long as the 980’s dead key is stock or lower you will be just fine using the 503hd, actually the 980 doesn’t even have enough ass behind it to drive the amp to its full potential. 2-4 watt dead or will run that amp just fine. Thanks for tuning in and subbing. 73
@@GroundControl204 Thank you very much for the info. I bought this radio new so the dead key should be stock. Now I've heard folks talking about dead key. Can you please explain to me how I figure out what the dead key is set at? sense the radio is new, I'd think that it's setting is stock. I'd like to add, I've been watching a lot of videos and you are the best at describing whats going on with a radio. Your take your time, and you don't sound like an auctioneer. I'm sure a lot of other viewers will agree with on that. Again, I thank you.
@@RogerSayers you need to buy an external watt meter and a coax jumper to read the wattage your radio is transmitting, Here’s a link for one👇🏻 www.ebay.com/itm/1000-WATT-POWER-SWR-METER-CB-HAM-RADIO-ANTENNA-METER-26-30-MHz-DELTA-PSM1000W-/114218171790?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l6249&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0

Howdy again Groundcontrol, I'm back again :) I want to let you know that I'm getting ready to send you an email that has a few photos attached showing you what I'm working with now. So the email is safe to open. Just wanted to let you know. Thanks again for the help..... Roger
L203 lacking wax was a dead giveaway. Someone wanted more power out of a radio that was not designed as a powerhouse. Nice job. I own a McKinley 3, among other President radios. Not a powerhouse either. Just a solid radio. Smilin', I'm off the key. 😑🦗
