Expect wellness and enjoy all of the good, healthy, natural real food and activities. I got a head start because I was born on my father's farm from an unbroken chain of country folk. My Indian ancestors had been there in SC forever living with the land and they were joined by African, Irish and Scots. Family butchered, farmed, gardened, fished and foraged. Unlimited fish, meat and vegetables! We cousins played all day between two hundred acre farms and lived on wild persimmons, plums, pecans, passion fruit, muscodines, scoponines and sour grass during the long summer days to keep from having to go home before dark. We'd have homegrown food for dinner and our family movie food was parched peanuts and sweet potatoes that we or cousins grew.

I was NOT trying to watch this! For a few days I dreaded watching because I saw it was almost an hour long. I'm new to intermittent fasting and I really wanted some quick tips. By the end I was crying, inspired, totally shocked by all the wisdom and graciousness of both the host and guest. Some days I fast all day and then eat a ribeye for dinner and add some eggs if needed. Every once in a while I love Tuna/boiled egg/primal mayo with Pork Rinds. I eat fish some times as well. I am okay as long as I don't allow sugar (chocolate) into my diet...once I start to feed that addiction it's hard for me to stop! @Jenn Moran I agree! I think that we are all different and are bodies take to things differently. There is no one size fits all plan (in my opinion). Especially since we don't all have the same sensitivities. I prefer Keto and IF, personally.

Glad this doctor pointed out that keto is a repackaged Atkins. First time I heard of ketosis was from Atkins phase 1. Atkins is actually easier as you eat freely counting carbs while keto you have to set a target on protein and balance that with fats while ensuring carbs are minimised which is a relative pita in the long run.

I am happy on ground Elk, Venison, Ribeyes, eggs, and burgers for the most part. I have gluten intolerance, problems with high oxalate veggies (bc of all the green smoothies I use to consume) and Broccoli and cauliflower cause me a lot of stomach distress (I use to eat loads of these veggies). I lost 100 pounds in one year intermittent fasting and working out. No more waking up in the middle of the night catching my breath and less stomach problems. Bottom line is, do what works for you and something you can be consistent with.
Wow he just said everything I’ve been doing this year !!! 70 lbs down in a year and a lot less acne, I stopped getting premature gray hair .... my energy level is much better and I get sick a lot less ! I still have a little over 100 left to lose before I’ll be caught up .
Congrats!
👏🏾Congratulations!!
Are you doing the 16/8 version?
Watched this from start till finish - loved it! Im working hard on losing weight and this is such great content , thank u so much! Im currently 325 pounds - already lost 22 pounds! Im so motivated!
22 lbs, great job👌🏽👏🏼
Good job
Congrats! You got this! I'll be cheering you on, on your journey.
How has your weight loss been since starting? This is the first time I've really paid attention to fasting, this video has me pumped but I'm wondering about results and the process. Thanks
I heard someone say today. We dont need motivation we need discipline
I identified with Dr.Ian but Ed struck oil with me. I had to fight back tears when he said "self confidence is keeping promises to yourself." I'm good at all the other stuff except that. You know it hits home when it makes you stop in your tracks. Inspired! Thanks guys!
An ah ha moment

Dropped too many nuggets to even count, it was right on time, I needed to hear this.
I love this video! I am so proud of Dr Ian! Our grandparents lived across the street from each other, and my grandmother use to baby sit him and his twin brother. Our morals, values and outlooks on life are so in sync….it’s amazing and awesome to know that growing up in our little Connecticut town, and being brought up in the Methodist Church had such a great impact on our families, in the same manner. Listening to him brought back such great memories. Intermittent fasting is a life style for me, and this video has validated it, for me!! Thank you both for such a great dialogue!! ❤️🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
❤❤
That guy is a perfect example of how people turn out when they are raised right. He had love, role models, a caring parent that taught him values and he had the love of God and fellowship as well. God bless him and I wish him every good thing. I'm glad he is setting a perfect example for todays youth.
I'm on keto and intermittent fasting I feel great! It's very sustainable for some of us. Fatty Meat and green veggies is very easy.
Robin Luich absolutely! I plan on being Keto long term... my RA symptoms have lessened dramatically and I feel better than I ever have. We have to remember he’s “selling” his books and plans 😉
Yep me too, eating low carbs has become a way of life to me and I've never felt better.
Robin Luich whats your window?
@@Loril715 Its never really the same, i aim for 1 decent size meal per day but sometimes have 2. I never go over 8 hours in my window so usually I'd say a 2 hour window.
Mark thank you!
This is soooo good and informative. Loved the example of sleeping on a heavy meal and it turning into fat. I used to be afraid of IF because I didn't understand it. I'm now on day 5 of 14:10. I stop eating between 7:30 and 9:30. I've been sleeping through the night by going to bed at 9:30pm - 11:30pm and waking up from 4:30pm -7:30pm. I break my fast around 11/12pm. I've been cooking healthy and drinking plenty of water. Today I pushed up to 17 hours fasting. I've lost my first 2lbs so far. This feels good and sustainable.
I wish that I had known about IF before I lost my left leg to diabetes, 24 years ago. Thanks Dr. Smith, because I am on the right path now.
Waking up 4:30 pm-7:30 pm?
Finally able to watch this in its entirety. I plan to drink a glass of water before each meal and I am going to get his book! Thank you.
Dr Ian been around a long time. And still looks amazing...and young.
Wow. I was only planning to watch 10 minutes of this and had put it on “watch later”. I COULD NOT stop watching. Both were interesting, content was amazing, and so much wisdom. That man has a great story and is something special. Will definitely begin to follow some of his content and going to subscribe to this channel. Great vid👏👍
Same here😂Extreemlt intriguing
OMG! I clicked on this to learn more about intermittent fasting and ended with a different focus on life. I'm a 60 year old cancer survivor who want a better myself. Dr. Ian Smith is my new hero. Thank you for the story that will hopefully enrich my life.
Boy this interview took a shift and i loved it. Thank you for not editing out the jewels.
I've always loved thus man. Such a smart intelligent young man. I teach my grandson to be respectful nice and obedient to authority.
Powerful and honest interview. I'm so proud of of this interview. Great knowledge in so many areas. Humility is the way people.
Excellent interview with Dr Smith, very engaging with candid answers that was understandable. I'm actually been trying the intermittent fasting, 16:8. It's been 1 month and I am down 13 lbs.
Wow! You just (well 9 months ago) hosted one of the best youtube interviews I have ever seen! Wow! Subscribed!!
I first learned about this concept from my parents when they spoke about my grandfather...he never ate past 8pm. It's awesome and intriguing how old school instincts are now being researched , explained and validated.
Same here - in my mother's family they used to eat by 8 pm due to the discipline of my grandparents. Unfortunately this didn't continue!
