I'm hoping to transfer to UCSD for CS next Fall, but I had no idea where to start or whether it would be worth it. You should def make more videos--you've obviously got a ton of personality haha.

This month I got accepted to a Summer Research Camp and let me tell you, it'll be the first time in my life where I'll be in an US college ever.
Like I cross to the States quite frequently but damn it feels different that I'll be in the UCSD 😂😂😂

this was a great watch thank you! I just got into sixth for chemical engineering. any advice? i also heard some stuff about sixth not having enough storage in the dorms how true is this? and lastly do you know if there are any gyms on campus for like working out and stuff?
idk much about chemE but sixth has plenty of storage esp under the beds lol. for gyms we have RIMAC or "LionTree" up near marshall/seventh and Main Gym down in muir.
It's mentioned somewhere that 7th has moved into old 6th housing... and that it's 'not good'. Do you know anything about this? Also, on your rankings, you have Warren/Marshall/Seventh on same level. Any further info you can provide as to what preferences might be within that ranking? Thank you! Great video!
7th has its own housing!! it’s at the very north of campus. the old 6th housing has recently been demolished lol, there’s nothing over there now.
as for warren/marshall/seventh, i ranked them all near the same level because i wasn’t confident in saying there was a significant enough difference between them to rank them differently.
i’m not totally familiar with their GE’s, but i think seventh and marshall probably rank slightly above warren. but it really depends on what credits you have coming in and what overlaps with your major. the ge’s are all online, so definitely check those out if you’re so inclined.

thank you!! very sweet that you have a ucsd family going on. it shouldn't be hard at all to transfer to Business/Econ as it's not a capped major. your daughter should be able to switch using the major/minor tool on tritonlink. send the virtual advising center a message if you have more questions. :)

Hi amazingly helpful thanks! Wanted to ask how hard is it to switch majors to a capped major for eg business economics to data science. Is it possible and how tough is it?It wont become like the situation for switching to the CS major will it?
quite late but in case you and others see this, googling "switching to data science ucsd" gets you to this: datascience.ucsd.edu/prospective-students/capped-major-application/
basically, you need to apply to the data science major after taking certain prereqs, and you are ranked based on your GPA for those prereqs. after that, it's a game of chance.
it is possible to switch into data science, unlike computer science, but it's still not guaranteed that you'll get in even if you get a perfect gpa on the prereqs.
so if you really want to do data science and you weren't accepted for the major here, that's definitely something to think about

i actually haven’t taken a single bio or science class (cs doesn’t count right lol) since i’ve been here, but from what i can tell from webreg (the course offerings for this quarter) it’s probably At Most 10-12 min from sixth to any lecture hall you’ll need to go to.
sixth is in a pretty optimal location. the furthest classes in general will be in warren or in pepper canyon (old sixth), which take around 15 min to walk to, but looking at BILD (bio) courses for this quarter, they seem to all be on the west-south side of campus (sixth, muir, revelle) or in center hall (on library walk). sixth is south enough that it’s not that far from revelle or center hall.

eighth college is new this year and iirc there hasn't been a lot of info posted about it yet. it's located south of revelle, so at the very very bottom. i think someone on the ucsd subreddit was talking about how they aren't sure what the ge's are. i assume they'll be alright though! new dorms will be cool.

This was exactly what I was looking for. One question: so you apply to UCSD, and once accepted, then you choose which college you want to live in? And does your major have any affiliation with the college (building) you're living in?
Hi! You rank your preferences for the colleges on your UC application, so it’s on the application you submit to UCSD. If you’re accepted, you’ll be assigned to a college based on your ranking. You can’t switch colleges easily as far as i know.
Your major has no relation to your college, but some colleges are more suited for some major just based on how compatible the GEs are.
Your college doesn’t affect your chances of getting admitted, and neither should your major as long as you have a backup uncapped major they can accept you under.

i'm happy the video helped! let's go sixth. not sure exactly what'll be the biggest differences between here and there, so i can't give much good advice, but you definitely don't have to worry about weather lol. its cool that you're coming from so far away, hope you like it here

hi! i’m an incoming transfer and just found out that transfers live in a separate housing area (rita and pepper???) do u know if it is at ALL possible to live on the college campus that u got admitted to (sixth college specifically)? and if it’s not possible have u heard anything about how that housing is? thank you.
hey!! i think that's only possible if your specific college is sixth and transfer housing fills up for some reason. i've heard of transfers also being overflowed to seventh. afaik rita atkinson is nicer but in a worse location and pepper canyon is less nice but in a better location (it's right next to the trolley)
What are the GE requirements you have to take for the sixth college? I got accepted into the sixth college and can’t find information online about GE class requirements for the colleges.

@@sophtsai4082 You will be able to see all the capped majors on the UCSD website. I have also been admitted as a business econ major. It is not a capped major and will be transferable. Good Luck!

MQ sounds so fun omg do u know if they value previous journalism experience in recruiting bc i love satirical magazines and writing but the last time i was involved with anything remotely related to a newspaper was 8th grade LOL
afaik most of the members had little to no journalism experience before joining! there's really no "recruiting" -- literally anyone can write an article and the content editors make sure we can print it. you sound like a good fit, come write for us :)

Do you think a fine arts major is a good fit for the 6th college? Definitely, prefer a college that does NOT have a calculus/heavy math GE requirement.
i would say so! sixth’s ge’s are pretty good for any major as far as i know. sixth ge’s only require one math course, which doesn’t have to be calculus. sixth also requires one statistics course.
googling ge’s right now, looks like seventh doesn’t even specify wanting a math course. some other colleges let you choose between math and some kind of science. definitely double check what the requirements are for each college
Hello! I just got accepted to ERC for biology... would you say it's worth looking to switch to a more STEM-related college? I have read a few things on reddit saying to try and avoid ERC if a STEM major T-T

Hello I got accepted to marshall college for human bio to go premed, how hard would it be to switch to john muir?
i don't think muir accepts inter-college transfers, sadly (look up inter-college transfers ucsd). switching colleges once you're admitted is also pretty uncommon. i think you have to prove that doing so would make you graduate at least two quarters earlier. it might not be worth the effort. marshall is also relatively pretty good and i know a few premed people in marshall, so i don't think you have to worry.

how far is the six college dorm to the CS classes?
at most 10-15 minutes (to the CSE building and warren lecture hall), but recently more CS classes have lecture closer to sixth or even in sixth (mosaic, the jeannie, etc). i'd say 1/3 of my CS classes were in warren, and the rest were closer. 👍
