I think the big thing with Dean is he's scared of Sam going off the rails but not just because he's his brother and he loves him, but because that means that HE failed in what he thinks is his job of protecting him and he feels guilty for it

They really went from the inescapable destiny episode right into the inventing free will episode. Also, they made the fandom canon, and some of us were never fully normal again, which I definitely Venn diagram with.
The vast majority of the fandom are normal...but there are factions who align themselves with a particular brother, actor or a 'ship' which causes a lot of in fighting between fans. Some of them are quit frankly nuts and scary!! The irony of all this is the cast love and support each other. In my opinion these fandom wars these days are not even about the actors or the show it is about them winding up the other side. So ridiculous..... as is you getting any hate for sharing an opinion. Side note - I loved and still love this episode. No show does meta better in my opinion.

i was in the fandom when the episode aired and personally i loved it. all the meta is what made supernatural so special to me. it felt like they went out of their way to tell us "we see you, we hear you, we know you are there and we appreciate you" although the 2009 fandom was TINY. we had our little message boards and supernatural wiki i guess and the conventions, sure but that was it. It just felt really good to be acknowledged via the actual show. The way they portrayed us is a different story i guess but back in the day i was just happy to get those crumbs of "hey! they know we exist!" supernatural is really special to me SPECIFICALLY for their show-fan-actor interactions. sometimes it gets really messy and cringey and i hate that but most of the time its a big love fest and this show was such a pioneer for that
Maybe he didn't see their faces till now. But now that he has met the boys, he can put those faces onto his imagination. I mean dreams are usually vague
I had the same thought. Chuck is probably not having visions per se, or he even may not get visual at all: just ideas, concepts and direction to some story lines. But TV being a visual media, that's the way the show got the idea across to viewers.
That reminds me of how I once heard that your mind doesn't "create dreams out of nothing", maybe because Chuck never saw Sam and Dean irl, in his dreams maybe he saw them differently; although a Prophet probably doesn't have to follow any natural rules about the mind lmao.

Except maybe Simpatico, who never spoke publicly about her brush with fame. 😂 About the fandom... It's been a weird ride over 15 years. There are different factions, and it feels sometimes as if we're watching a different show entirely. There are crazies on all sides. I think you've handled it all very well!
Yeah, it's honestly kinda frustrating. Comments shouldn't reference anything in future episodes, no matter how vaguely; only things that have happened in this episode and previous ones. Maybe people don't realise it, but even just posting something like "Remember this character" or "this will be relevant later" or even just the character's name with certain emojis - anything that makes it clear that the character is significant in the show and will have a recurring role, rather than letting the reactor find that out for themselves - is still a kind of spoiler, even if it's vague, and it means that when a character does return to the show and have a significant role, it's less surprising because people already made it obvious that that would happen. People are risking taking away a bit of the excitement for reactors in the future because they can't contain their own excitement now. Again, ANY emphasis on a certain character or even vague references to future episodes/storylines is spoiler territory.
Yeah. I've never seen Supernatural and people have been SO obvious with their spoilers, it makes me reluctant to go near the comments. Why would people do that on reaction videos? Is it just to show off that they know more than the reactor?

I've NEVER understood how anyone can claim to passionately love one of the Winchesters but HATE the other. I'm for sure a Dean Girl, but I love Sam so much! It's not about Team Sam or Team Dean, it's Team Winchester. Love that you're a Bobby Girl. 😁 Sorry, you've had to put up with crazies. I definitely loved this episode and how they poke a bit of fun at the fandom. I feel like I identify with the woman that is the publisher. I can be pretty protective of "my boys" and really don't enjoy when people make fun of them. I love this episode and I agree with most of your observations. Although, I have to say that it really began to annoy me that Sam kept attributing Dean’s unwillingness to run full tilt at Lilith to weakness or fear rather than trauma. Of course, Dean is my fav, so I get a bit defensive on his behalf. For the most part, seemed to adore the meta stories, mainly because show usually managed to poke as much fun at itself as they did at us. Unfortunately, some fans are a bit more precious about things like that now and seem to look for reasons to be “offended”. I love that Chuck (as a stand-in for Kripke) apologized to Sam and Dean (us) for what he considered some of the least successful episodes of the show. Finally, seeing Cas come up with a clever way to help Dean without disobeying his own orders was very interesting. As you said, up until now he’s been simply a warrior, this showed a tines glimmer that there may be more to him than that.
Sam calls Dean weak on at least 5 separate occasions this season. It's a bit off-putting, but I think it's because of what Chuck said about him power tripping on the demon blood.
In Sams defense, Sam is going through some stuff as well, but yeah, it is definitely not a logical justification Sam takes on, but one he kind of needs to make himself feel better (Sam has always kind of felt weak in comparison to Dean, as he always was the younger brother who needed to be taken care of and that just by existing he is at fault for deaths like his mother and Jess and even Dean, while Dean was able to save him, so I guess in that way, he wants to turn the roles for once) and deal with the fact, that Dean is trusting him less and less and there is an obvious distance and conflict between them... I would chalk Sam's response up to trauma as well, like hell, Sam and Dean are like the most traumatized characters ever, but yeah, really not justified and fair of him to think that way, atleast rationally (but I'm kind of doubting if that's something he really thinks or rather just something he tells himself, I'm guessing the latter).

10:38 I like how Cas basically was suggesting to Dean that he cannot interfere in Divine Prophecy but while the prophecy itself may be set in stone it is still not clear which gives Dean an opportunity to add his own wrinkle to it by bringing Chuck and the archangel to save the day. 13:40 Like I said before, I don't entirely trust Zachariah. Kurt Fuller has been known for playing funny characters but also smarmy jerks. While not smarmy, he does appear to be a jerk in regards to telling Chuck not to warn the Winchesters. Maybe it truly is a need-to-know basis thing, or maybe it isn't.

Been watching almost since your first Supernatural episode and I remember that first episode when you were like, I guess I'll do this because people want it (and how your mom tried to get you to watch earlier, etc.). Now, your heart is soooo engaged and you have come to be so attached to the characters as we have. I've so enjoyed watching this journey with you and can't wait to see you in the future episodes. You've only just started and the fun is really starting now... Enjoy every laugh, thrill, scare, heartache, elation and sadness. It's so worth it all.
When you think about it, it's actually kind of neat that the Supernatural books in the Supernatural universe encouraged fans to get anti-possession tattoos, unknowingly giving themselves legit defense
Love your videos!! I’m finally catching up on season 4!! I love how in depth and thoughtful you are about the show. And that you love both brothers!! I was part of the fandom back in the early days and it was around season 4 that I stepped away. ( Not from the show) The Supernatural fandom is honestly the most toxic one I’ve ever been part of. If you didn’t get on board with a certain brother or *ship* you were called terrible names and (in my case) was sent death threats. I’m sorry you have had to deal with nasty messages. I have found that if you find someone who just watches the show and isn’t involved in the fandom on Twitter or tumblr, you’ll find much nicer fans who understand the true meaning of the show. I’m excited to keep catching up and am looking forward to what’s coming in season 5!!
I don't like that Sam just willingly gives up Dean's life w/o asking his brother if he'd be agreeable. Since Sam is shown not being able to destroy/kill Lilith, Dean was right. He wasn't ready. I don't think Sam wants to protect Dean as being the major reason he drinks the demon blood. I think Chuck had it right. Sam wants to be in control. Ruby is telling him that HE is important, and HE needs to do it. He's listening to a demon, versus listening to Cas and the Prophet, who have all told him he's headed down the wrong path.
Well, she didn't say Sam didn't want the power, she literally said he likes the power the blood gives him, she Added the fact Sam wants to protect Dean too. She even said that's probably not te right way to do it though. With which I agree. For me they both are just like lost puppies in a war they were forced into.
It's not just Ruby telling Sam he's important though. Chuck does also tell Sam in this episode that "it all seems to rest on his shoulders". Also, I think we all know Dean would have been okay with giving up his life, along with Sam. These two just love to self sacrifice :/
@@huchlvr But he didn't actually do that? Agreeing was the fake out. He tried to kill Lilith twice and failed, as you said. Once with his powers, and then she offers him the deal. He pretends to accept as his plan B, but then attempts kill #2 with the knife. Dean was the one who argued he *should have* considered it for real. Sam says he never did. If he had actually agreed, he would not have tried to take the knife to her instead.

I love that Chuck (as a stand-in for Kripke) apologized to Sam and Dean (us) for what he considered some of the least successful episodes of the show.
Finally, seeing Cas come up with a clever way to help Dean without disobeying his own orders was very interesting. As you said, up until now he’s been simply a warrior, this showed a tines glimmer that there may be more to him than that.
Sam calls Dean weak on at least 5 separate occasions this season. It's a bit off-putting, but I think it's because of what Chuck said about him power tripping on the demon blood.
In Sams defense, Sam is going through some stuff as well, but yeah, it is definitely not a logical justification Sam takes on, but one he kind of needs to make himself feel better (Sam has always kind of felt weak in comparison to Dean, as he always was the younger brother who needed to be taken care of and that just by existing he is at fault for deaths like his mother and Jess and even Dean, while Dean was able to save him, so I guess in that way, he wants to turn the roles for once) and deal with the fact, that Dean is trusting him less and less and there is an obvious distance and conflict between them...
I would chalk Sam's response up to trauma as well, like hell, Sam and Dean are like the most traumatized characters ever, but yeah, really not justified and fair of him to think that way, atleast rationally (but I'm kind of doubting if that's something he really thinks or rather just something he tells himself, I'm guessing the latter).

I LOVE how you understand both brothers SO WELL. Specially Sam because everyone understands Dean, but for some reason a lot of the fanbase never understood what Sam was going through here, and I love to see someone else who saw it besides me and saw the same as me because it proves I couldn't be so mistaken with my take on Sam

This episode of the show ranks as one of my all time favorites. I thought the introduction of the Supernatural book series was genius. On another note, I LOVE that you love both brothers. 10:38 I like how Cas basically was suggesting to Dean that he cannot interfere in Divine Prophecy but while the prophecy itself may be set in stone it is still not clear which gives Dean an opportunity to add his own wrinkle to it by bringing Chuck and the archangel to save the day.
13:40 Like I said before, I don't entirely trust Zachariah. Kurt Fuller has been known for playing funny characters but also smarmy jerks. While not smarmy, he does appear to be a jerk in regards to telling Chuck not to warn the Winchesters. Maybe it truly is a need-to-know basis thing, or maybe it isn't.

Love your videos!! I’m finally catching up on season 4!! I love how in depth and thoughtful you are about the show. And that you love both brothers!! I was part of the fandom back in the early days and it was around season 4 that I stepped away. ( Not from the show) The Supernatural fandom is honestly the most toxic one I’ve ever been part of. If you didn’t get on board with a certain brother or *ship* you were called terrible names and (in my case) was sent death threats. I’m sorry you have had to deal with nasty messages. I have found that if you find someone who just watches the show and isn’t involved in the fandom on Twitter or tumblr, you’ll find much nicer fans who understand the true meaning of the show. I’m excited to keep catching up and am looking forward to what’s coming in season 5!!

I don't like that Sam just willingly gives up Dean's life w/o asking his brother if he'd be agreeable.
Since Sam is shown not being able to destroy/kill Lilith, Dean was right. He wasn't ready. I don't think Sam wants to protect Dean as being the major reason he drinks the demon blood. I think Chuck had it right. Sam wants to be in control. Ruby is telling him that HE is important, and HE needs to do it. He's listening to a demon, versus listening to Cas and the Prophet, who have all told him he's headed down the wrong path.
Well, she didn't say Sam didn't want the power, she literally said he likes the power the blood gives him, she Added the fact Sam wants to protect Dean too. She even said that's probably not te right way to do it though. With which I agree.
For me they both are just like lost puppies in a war they were forced into.
It's not just Ruby telling Sam he's important though. Chuck does also tell Sam in this episode that "it all seems to rest on his shoulders".
Also, I think we all know Dean would have been okay with giving up his life, along with Sam. These two just love to self sacrifice :/

@@huchlvr But he didn't actually do that? Agreeing was the fake out. He tried to kill Lilith twice and failed, as you said. Once with his powers, and then she offers him the deal. He pretends to accept as his plan B, but then attempts kill #2 with the knife. Dean was the one who argued he *should have* considered it for real. Sam says he never did. If he had actually agreed, he would not have tried to take the knife to her instead.
