Bach was as merciless to the hands as Handel to the voice. This takes real perseverance to get play this . Great job.
but once you get the hang of it and engrane the 'muscle memory' on it, this piece is so FUN to play
And to the feet on the pedals.
@@Ken_Weber_organist I always find when I finally get a good Bach piece learned; it is fun , inspiring, and fulfilling to play.
This was our wedding recessional 38-years ago. It takes me back to that day every time I hear this piece. Thank you God for my wife.
An excellent way to end the wedding! May your marriage be blessed and fruitful.
I was just thinking this would be a great wedding recessional piece 😂 I guess GMTA.
This was ours too. Love it!
I find it difficult to comprehend the talent required to write such music. Then to find someone that can perform it in a way to do it justice, give it life. I played this five times in a row. Most superb Mr. Scott.
Some musical scholars claim thathis is not Bach. Who else could have written it? It is too good.
@@robertgift6762 People claim that about half of Bach's music isn't actually his.
The spirit of Bach is thriving in Jonathan Scott, heartily endorsed by Bob the Dread Pirate! Soli Deo Gracias!!
This has long been my favorite Bach piece. I taught myself to play about one page of the sheet music on the piano. So while people walk by and pound out _mary had a little lamb_ or _jingle bells_ with one finger on the demo keyboards at the store where I work, I play fugue a la gigue. I would love to have a tenth of the talent this man has. That was wonderful, sir, I'm awestruck!
And....I also love this...my very favorite Bach composition for the pipe organ, ever since I was age 12.
Pure JOY!
If you like this fugue there is also a very nice Jig Fugue at the end of Bach,s Toccata BWV 912 for harpsichord / piano . It is really a Toccata, Adagio and Gigue Fugue . The fugue is a real gem like this one for organ but has a tremendous flourish at the end.
@@stuartmclaren2402 yep, it's fantastic in Trevor Pinnock's version
Generally i love to hear bachs fugues at a slower tempo than usual, but Mr Scott is so meticulously clean in his articulation that i actually enjoyed this quite fast this time round!!! He has really given it the Gigue personality.
Absolute perfect played Jonathan. Thank you Scott Brothers 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏🤔
Jonathan, I've seen many organists perform this piece with all kinds of results, some good, others a muddled mess, but you blew this one out of the water! You have the gift and it shows in your articulation, phrasing, console command, registration, overall playing technique and interpretation. It is always a pleasure to see and listen to you and to Tom, who is equally gifted and
a great producer of all your videos. Thank you both for your musical and visual contributions.
tempo is perfect and the articulation unmatched! thank you for an inspiring performance.
Never tire of watching this
I do. It’s a superb performance rendered dull by a dead acoustic . A waste of a superb instrument installing it in a space like that.
Wow - this was really well done! Good job. I love this piece; and it was not rushed - tempo was superb.
There are organists who can do justice, play it as Bach would have and with a relaxed demeanor. it was delightful. Thank you.
Those feet are really dancing over the keys. Wonderful!
Without any doubt, the best fugue performance I've ever heard. All the voices are clean and make all together a gracious work.
Congratulations.
Used to listen to this stuff with my dad REALLY loud. Wonderful wonderful job!
I wish I could listen to classical music with my parents. However, its not their "thing".
Irre mega gut ....
💯❤
What utter joy! Makes me laugh and cry with the beauty of the music and unbelievable skill of the organist
Finally I found the best performance of BWV 577! Bravo!
Probably the best rendition of this Fugue I've heard in a VERY long time. I love hearing this played loud and fast ^_^
Fantastic performance Jonathan. Brilliant articulation, phrasing and articulation, tempo, and of course, a wonderfully managed organ. Bach would have been proud.
Virgil Fox once had his audience, not only clap the rhythms of this piece, but to dance the Gigue in the isles. It certainly makes a person want to give expression to the joy it conveys.
This performance makes my heart sing. 💜
An outstanding performance - great tempi with very clear articulation
This is my very favorite Bach pipe organ composition, I learned it long ago. First heard it in 1964 when I was age 12, on a recording played by E. Power Biggs. This organist plays it beautifully!
Pure bliss. Am I in heaven?
Jonathan, you are the only other person I have heard outside of the late Virgil Fox who does this fugue justice. It truly does "dance" as it is played. This organ has a beautiful temperament and really shows off this piece well. Thanks for sharing!
Just thrilling. Glorious music on a great instrument, played delightfully! Dancing on the pedals!
You ever get the feeling that a lot of the time, Bach was just showing off? :)
I think he definitely wrote that for fun. :->
Well, it had to be "showing off" because you know the old rule - it ain't just bragging if you can actually do it.
It Was fun when I learned to play this on the piano sixty years ago, and still a joy listening to Jonathan at his best! ☺️
I could never play this so admire anyone who can play it like a dance. However in one of his toccatas 912 for harpsichord there is a delightful little Jig fugue at the end. It well worth a try and of course it doesn’t have a foot part but sounds wonderful especially the wild flourish at the end.
No…he was a genius!
Like Virgil Fox used to say; this piece makes you want to dance. It is filled with joy. Wonderful playing.
I just love pipe organ music!
This must be the HAPPIEST piece Bach ever wrote and it was played absolutely MASTERFULLY by Mr Scott here.
I studied that piece with Virgil Fox.
You play it very well.
Thank you.
Dr. Stephen
Amazing how these instruments sound so pipe like. Great playing. I remember when this piece was first published. Glad it’s still being played; especially so well. I’ve tackled it when younger, but my arthritis has taken my skill away. 😊
Makes you want to dance
Absolutely brilliant! Played at a proper tempo! Exhilarating and exciting.
I love this piece, so joyful! Very crisp playing! You can hear every note and articulation. Bravo!
Bravo Jonathan you are the best in the UK!
Best version I have ever heard
Such clarity!
What a thrilling performance! Great job.
Jonathan is absolutely amazing but give some credit to Tom; Your camera positions and angles, not to mention your editing are better than first rate! Seeing what Jon is doing remarkably enhances the music. What a team! Great music and great visuals.
You know how to play Bach. You have skills... good work. Keep on the good work !
Outstanding...
Listening to this music is like standing in sunshine.
Dancing in sunshine!
Just the way this joyful Jig should be played - *big and bold!* It's so disappointing to hear this grand piece played on a few whispering 8', 4' & 2' *flute stops* like some do.
Bravo, Jonathan! And the organ sounds wonderful as well.
Thanks also for the stoplist - always very interesting to see.
And great appreciation to your gifted brother for the high quality sound, video and editing.
Goosebumps! Just beautiful!
This is brilliantly played, tempo, registration, technique all first class. Do did this justice my friend. Thank you!
Wonderful...just wonderful. Such a joyous piece, played with exceptional articulation.
Love the majestic sounds of this organ✅
very nice, good registration and the voices are clearly distinguishable while sounding good together ^^
YAHOO!!! Oh, this made my soul dance and my feet fly! Jonathan, I think old Bach just applauded, I know I sure did! This is the very best rendition of this glorious piece (my favourite piece, by the way) that I have ever heard! Thank you for this beautiful gift! You are a magnificent talent and I thank you for sharing your gifts with us! You too, Tom; beautifully filmed with superb audio, you brothers are just fantastic! ❤️❤️🙏🏻🏅🇨🇦
Virgil Fox would be well pleased. A stunning performance!
The rumbling of the low notes almost shook my desk.
Fantastic. Words can't describe ........You laid it out on the Piece. Masterclass. Best ever Fugue. 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Impecable!!❤
Bach, the mathematical and compositional genius that he is, definitely improvised this from a theme.
Maybe he was challenged to improvise from the theme.
I choose to believe that the first performance of this piece was prefaced by the baroque-era German equivalent of, "Heheh, watch this." :)
Much as I admire your transcriptions, it’s a joy to hear you play some Bach composed for the organ. What a shame you hadn’t an audience!
Bellissima!!!
Awesome. Nice attention to detail. I especially like the contrast in dynamics which some players don't do as well or even worse, ignore!
Fantastic Jonathan! My late Dad who was a very accomplished organist himself, would have loved to hear/see you play.
Keep up the good work and look forward to the next offering, which brings me so much joy! Also thanks to Tom for his marvellous filming. You two are a great team. Greetings from Australia.
This is a great music that make you dance while you play, and it is very fantastic.
Beautifully play, recorded and filmed. Thank you, all of you. Bravo.
Bravo!! Every note so clear. Thanks guys.
It was beautiful.👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Wow! Another favorite. Well played. Thanks.
You are fantastic! Many Many Many compliments from Italy!
superb rendition of the Gigue Fugue in G Major.....
Brawo Maestro !👌🌹
Wonderfully danced and such a brave tempo
Completely fantastic.
This was the best gift of my birthday!
Tom I listened to this on my audio system and it was like being there. On studio headphones it was bliss. By the way Jonathan your playing was superb registration and tempo beautiful. Looking forward to Victoria recital and Liege.
Way to go!! Fabulous!!!!👍😊
Stunning 😁
Show!! Lindo!!
Saudações e um abraço aqui do Brasil.
Spirit of King Asa. Many thanks and thanks.
Excellent, as always.
superb performance! I especially appreciate the excellent registrations and utilization of the three manuals. I believe tat Bach himself would give you an "attaboy."
One of my favorites. Well played. Well recorded. Love the shoes ;)
Love this organ and performance of this joyous piece. Please please will you do a recording from Manchester Cathedral? Would be wonderful to hear a recording of it!
Awesome! 😍
That subject looks so long for a fugue ,and still Bach made it work. And your interpretation makes it even better thank you
I don't know about stops, but i think the Bombarde 16' and the Fagott 32' really do it for me.
at the very beginning i thought this was going to be a very baroque arrangement of heart and soul
Not easy to dance a gigue on pedal! Bravissimo!
Omg yes That crisp execution though!!! Bold deep crunchy pedal reeds yayyy....perfect!.
Not only do you have a legacy of a fabulous Organist live, its now great watching your online repertoire build up too. Please keep them coming boys! (P.s. please play tu es petra on a big hefty organ pleaaassseseee 😂)
Bravo!
I love it
