Very good. Flawless. Perfect stops, articulation, phrasing, expressiveness, accents, speed. Dupré would appreciate.
Dupre was 20 Century French, Bach was 17th Century German , Musical Worlds & Organ designs apart, however both are "Great" in their own ("genre") right & appreciation of each is a personal musical emotion!
Bach would have appreciated it, too.
No words can say how brilliant the artist is❤
I love the way he plays it slower than most organists- it brings out the ingenuity of this amazing piece, combined with the wonderful organ that it is performed on and the perfect registration changes at the right times.
I second the comments approving of Mr. Penin's tempo. This sinfonia, played at presto, cannot yield its thrills in full. Allegro, at most, allows a skilled organist to keep his or her tempo constant and precise through the more difficult central passages, which contribute to the "rush" for listeners. Also, at faster tempos, the risk increases that those passages will be muddied by the "noise" of echos with a long bounce in the larger churches that possess the great organs preferred by leading professionals. This can be a factor, even if the organist can sustain note-perfect play at such a fast tempo. As At0mCollision points out, most concert-level organists do play it faster, perhaps simply because they can. Opinions vary, and I respect all informed ones, but for me, even if there were no echo noise, the speed not only adds nothing, it subtracts from this sinfonia's muscular nature, turning the steady gallop of a race horse into the flight of the bumblebees.
Widor repeatedly warned his students against rushing for the sake of rushing. So did Dupré.
I agree
Most of the performances I've heard of this Sinfonia are, in my opinion, played WAY too fast. This is a perfect tempo!
Nope. Too slow.
This famous masterpiece he plays with exquisite skill and incomparable technique is overwhelmingly comfortable to the ears
I love the metre of this version. It allows the big pipes of the bass to get fully resonating throughout the venue and then the decaying resonance adds a legato like effect absent from many of the version played at a faster pace. To me it adds majesty to this profound composition and emphasises the humble reflection of the magnificent composition of the Grand Master. Just can’t stop playing it.
I totally agree, the metre of this version is magnificent, I guess I have played it a hundred times since the outbreak of Covid-19 in March!!
Tempo perfectly matched to resonance of the hall. Nicely recorded and produced.love the bright sound!

Cher Olivier Penin Quelle fabuleuse performance.
One of the best "Oh Wows..." played on the King of Instruments presented on UA-cam.
I must have listened to this a dozen times...and each time, I find it breathtaking. Olivier Penin is utterly magnificent in every way. His musicianship is exhilarating to hear, and to watch. God bless...
This is so perfect and magnificent that I listen it several times every day. Olivier's pedal technique is amazing.
I listen most every day, too, Mr. Parsons. What a joy Bach's prodigious contribution to the baroque era can be when performed with such skill and such intelligent interpretation.
I love his pink socks!
simply fantastic....hear and feel the spirit of BACH and DUPRE......
Wonderful. This piece is well appropriate to be played on organ.
When played by a master musician, Bach will stir your soul like no other!
Hell, I don't know if I have a soul... but it stirs me. I love this kid. Titian already.
You are a JOY incarnate. Wow!!!
Extraordinaire!!!!
I appreciate the speed of execution, perfect to distinguish the separated parts, and the "crescendo" during the composition evolving. Very , very good organ player
Une desmeilleures interprétations bravo
Toll. J.S.Bach , ich liebe Bach. Alles auswendig gespielt, Respekt
One of the very few I've heard in over 40 years that understands the importance of the pedal throughout. It warms me to hear this rendition.
God is great!
Wow!! I must have listened to this performance a thousand times by now and never tire of it. It is really uplifting, inspiring musical artistry.
Marveleux,Fantastisch
Cette interprétation est un joyau, un diamant !!!! Merci 🙏🙏🙏❤️
This reflects years of endless practice and devotion. True mastery of the organ. Well done and thank you.

Bravo Maestro Olivier !!!
Thank you for not rushing this. I love your use of flue registrations in the left hand.
Penin is so very good. A truly magnificent performance on a most wonderful instrument.
The Joy of the Organ!
Quel moment exceptionnel !
In a word, "definitive." I've listened to this great work for 50 years and dear Olivier, it doesn't get any better. The whole post was great, the sound recording, the video and of course the playing. Thanks for sharing... your joy.
I agree with you. I've heard several versions. He is a superb organist and musician.
Einfach brilliant gespielt, danke!
A perfect performance by a very gifted organist!
Listening and watching this performance is for me always
spiritually uplifting.
Excellente prestation , brillante et des orgues "aériennes ". Bon tempo . Partition du pédalier extra. Quel régal général . Prise de son géniale .
You have to be the most perfect organist I have ever heard. Merci Olivier.Rodney Hall South Africa
Yes!! A pleasure to listen to over and over sgain. Five stars! Bravo.
Everything about the playing, registrations, instrument, acoustic and camera work could not be better. Best video rendition of the Sinfonia on UA-cam. Hands down! Superbe!
Robert Walsh Robert, I agree with you completely! ❤️❤️🙏🏻👍🏻🇨🇦
Love this piece.
Robert Walsh Very well said. I could not agree more!!
Spot on! Everything in this performance is near perfect. So many organists race through this piece as if they have to finish quickly and catch a plane. I especially love his pedal registration which allows those big reed stops to sound their majesty. Bravo, Olivier!
Olivier joue marveilleusement. Merci.
The organists of Paris....how I miss you all.
Precioso sonido.
Absolutely magnificent in every regard. One of my favorite performances on the organ I have ever heard. Felecitacions.
Magnificent! Who on earth could give this a thumbs down?!
I was astounded by the number of thumbs down. This was magnificent, Must be jerks who can't play & wished they could.

Someone who knows nothing about music or playing the organ
Someone was annoyed by the red socks. (petty behavior) :-)
très belle interprétation et registration parfaite. Merci Maître Penin
lol
Fabuleux !
Great shoes and sox. The music is pretty good too!!
Kudos Maestre Penin, for not hurrying this magnificent iconic short piece of organ music and done with no bowing, scraping and gurning.
Bravo. Continuez à nous faire rêver 😉👍
Splendiide prises de son et de vue ! Merci et Bravo !

Beautifully done. Thank you for not playing it at breakneck speed as most tend to do.
Un grande virtuoso.
Bravo! Excelente!
Stupendo . Bravissimo l'organista!.
The work comes to life! Excellent technique and artistry, coupled with movie star looks and great socks!
This is the best performance of this I have heard. I think Bach would be overjoyed! The registration and articulation are perfect! Thank You!
Jon William I feel it to be among the more tolerable versions, but completely unexciting. Many organists are too caught in trying to “interpret” the work by using their own arrangements. This is no exception. No doubt he’s a decent organist, but he can’t keep time or a beat to save his life, nor does he pay any attention to the time signature. This was written to be a VERY fast piece, not something from the romantic period. This is the most accurate version I’ve ever heard, and is played with the original composition, not a rearrangement. ua-cam.com/video/MkzFNqc-rvg/v-deo.html
@@johnreynolds9477 I'm sure we all look forward to your superior personal interpretation, played by yourself..I await!
John Reynolds - Yes ... I see what you mean!
Bob Bobberson - She is awesome!
I just listened to Diane Bish's performance of the Sinfonia. Before explaining why I prefer Penin's, I want first to give both organists due credit. Very few human beings ever reach, as both Bish and Penin have, such a lofty pinnacle of sensorimotor skill.
I prefer Penin's performance. He chose an allegro tempo that allowed him to play, with no appreciable change in tempo, the more challenging middle passages with the same skill and command of the notes as his opening. To my ear, Bish's presto went through a slight ritardando as she got to those middle passages, and it seemed she imposed another, more compressed slow-down shortly after that, establishing a new tempo, still fast but slower yet, as she headed to the finish line.
While both did the typical dramatic slowdown at the end, I found Penin's to be within my acceptable zone and Bish's tipping over into melodrama---the last thing Bach's music needs. I would love, some day, to hear the sinfonia played to the end with NO slow-down, and with the final chord released after no more than an instant of extra hold. Maybe I wouldn't like it, but I'd love to hear it that way, at least once.
At the risk of digressing, I'll note that many a performance of Bach's two great masses have been spoiled for me by the use of opera soloists rather than those trained in choraI singing to keep the vibrato in check and never scoop a note. For those who agree, I recommend the cantatas performed by the J.S. Bach Foundation (J.S. Bach-Stiftung), the ensemble's choir and orchestra ably conducted by Rudolf Lutz. Their ambitious aim is to perform all of Bach's hundreds of cantatas. The DVDs are beautifully engineered in both video and audio---high quality and worth the money. Most of the soloists are masters at singing in the clean style that best suits choral music of the Baroque era.
Returning to Bish vs Penin, I don't know whether it is the organ Bish played or her choice of stops, but I heard an overlying sound that evoked the calliope organs to be found most readily, these days, in carousels. I can best describe it as a honking resonance---slight, but audible, that comes from differences in the metal of the pipes compared to a pipe organ. For me at least, not the right sound for Bach---from the viewpoint of one who likes most of the Swingle Singer Bach interpretations and most synthesizer renditions and eschews transcriptions for brass quartets, despite playing first chair cornet in my high school band.
Tension and dynamic getting greater towards the end and receive relief in a wonderful end. Bach is the greatest composer in history. For me at least. Mr. Penin does provide me lots of joy. Thanks..
Wow! Merci Monsieur +Vincent Hildebrandt
This has to be my favorite combination of voices on the organ

Bravo BRAVO BRAVO BACH👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Love this piece, first time I heard it was back in the 70’s when Virgil Fox played it. Very well done for memory as well.
For me wonderful tempo...and a great choice for the organ voice!!! Expecially for the pedalboard!!! Excellent job..!!! 😎😎😎
I so agree with you. The tempo is perfect as you can hear the articulation of the manual playing, and the registration for the pedal line is so bold and clear.
Bravo!
Merci.

Wonderful!
Stunningly played on a very beautiful pipe organ
Bravo! Thrilling! Merci beaucoup. 👍 ❤️
Perfect tempo, excellent execution, magnificent instrument! Thank you.
Maestro Olivier Penin presents a beautifully graceful performance! Like most of Bach's works, I interpreter this organ Sinfonia Cantata as the exploration of the unknown when one takes new challenges. One can observe Maestro Penin the dynamic technique in his hands and feet showing vigour, expressive emotions and gracefulness. Wow, the church has an amazing acoustic environment.
Bravo Olivier! Fabulous piece, beautifully played. Thank you for sharing.
Increíblemente magnifico. Great talent Congratulations . Saludos from Culiacán Sinaloa México. God blessyou. BENDICIONES MAESTRO

Too magnificent to describe in mere words.

I cannot explain what this beautiful piece played by Olivier does to me. Beyond beautiful and stunning.
It is a very uplifting piece of music. I love this piece! I love the solo violin piece as well. Both are just splendid. Bach out did himself on this one!
