Susie, I watch channels whereby people from Japan own Otters as pets. The Otters are so smart, curious and funny. These channels are: Aty, Loutre and Kotsumet. It's legal in Japan to have them for pets. The people who have them take excellent care of them. They have to have pools at their homes for the Otters to swim in. For Aty channel, human dad Otterman takes his 2 Otters to different streams to swim in. Let me know if you've ever watched those Otter channels. I love it!

The humans who rescued it probably saved its life. It was released back to the wild when it was old enough to survive. I live in the USA. I never heard that it is legal to own Otters here. I never knew anyone personally had an Otter for a pet.

Long story in brief: I rescued a Dusky Wing Swallow and, after hand-rearing for two weeks, I took him to the wildlife park where they had ... another Dusky Wing Swallow! Mine flew out of my hand - it was the first time, after having been given ample opportunity - straight up to the other one, and they were really excited to find each other. Hugely soul-enriching.
