Might I make a suggestion if you're going to take the firefighting body and pump off do it carefully please and advertise it because of volunteer fire department that may not have a lot of money may want to buy that off of you so be careful when disconnecting the pump and taking off the body you might be able to make your money back that you spend on a truck just by selling the body in a pump in the tank.. there's a lot of poor little volunteer fire departments that would pay a couple thousand dollars for that body pump and tank
Yes sir. I was planning on giving the system a proper test. I'm pretty sure that the pump packing is old, dry, and brittle and it will probably not pull a draft but still it needs to be properly tested so I can inform the next owner of the pump what to expect. There is a few smaller volunteer departments around here that may end up wanting it. We also have a huge amount of private wildland fire fighters that build their own trucks and run them under contract with federal and state. I'm sure any of them would be happy to pick up one at a discount price. shoot even the hose reels are a huge chunk of change.
Awesome truck awesome deal🎉 also love the standard poodle people don't know that they're super smart hunting dogs. I've been around a few of them really great dogs. I've been around a few Labradoodles😢 that's what happens when you take two really intelligent breeds and they come out stupid as hell😅. My cousin got one and I asked her why don't you get a standard poodle she said one of those weird things. Painfully ignorant😢
See that is fine example why our damn government should be nailed to the wall for wasting our tax dollars. They took a perfectly good running truck and let it sit and go to hell. If they are going to replace with new then sell the old ones while they still run. That will make sweet hauler
Dude for real. I saw so much waste while I was in the Military and still see so much more with the auctions I go to. If this truck was left in service there was nothing wrong with it and I would of served so many more years of service to get more money out of it.

And some of them have 4WD and with a pump and roll on them and that truck in the pocket command books in the ics type 3 wildland fire engine and type 4 as well
I would of loved to get one of the 4wd models. These really do seem to be one hell of a truck. I'm trying to find what I can for research on them but google is not turning up much.
Auction means state employees can't buy it. I can't tell you how many times I picked up a truck from the state that they either bought new ones or just didnt use it. Bought a 14 E350 bus with new tires, batteries and all preventative maintenance even a full tank of gas for 700$ drove it home. Had it for over a year.
For real man. that is the plan but we will see. 500 gallons is kinda low for a type 3 engine. also the box is way shorter than most private guys run. That being said we are going to hopefully get the cost of the truck out of it.
I'm removing the bed, tank, and pump. I'm turning the truck into a hauler. I use to do structure and wildland back in the day but we never carried SCBAs on our wildland trucks. I can see why though when you're the only agency around.
@@PaperBeatsRock most of the FS engines in CA operate in mountainous areas during the summer where pre established roads are the only option. True off-roading isn't really a thing like it is on BLM land so that's why 2wd works.
several of them have. We even have a few of them at local departments around here. This one is out of California and because of State law it can't be used there because of the EPA diesel emission laws they have put into place.
lordy lord. what are you up to now. dt466 will be easy refire. should be easy fix. and that will make a great hauler. find a western hauler bed, and a 10spd/od with a single speed rear end.
For sure. I was thinking of maybe doing a swap over to 4wd. They got MRAP t cases at the auction and can put some mrap axles under it. I will defiantly need to look at proper gears and trans set up for the hwy though.
@@PaperBeatsRock for gearing and highway use i wouldn't. itll be reved up and angry under load. if your gonna use it for a hauler I'd think simpler. the old powerline IH trucks were 4x4 and a donor might be better for 4x4 and still give you decent use.
So the $1,000'ish for it isn't all that bad but what did the the parts cost? Tows ain't cheap and semi's ain't cheap🤔 I'd love to get some of the stuff too but worried it'd be stuck or I'd need to get a better runner.
I was worried about transport. It was 519miles from where it was to my house and as a disabled vehicle cost is traditionally more. It cost me a total of $1,770 for the transport. Now there is defiantly going to be more cost that goes into this after a bare minimum of getting it running and driving on the road safely before I start to do all my custom work. I will be doing a video about that to give everyone a proper break down so you know the real cost it was to me.
Never understood why they would make an off-road wildland truck without 4x4. Limits the ability of the truck not just off road but in adverse weather conditions.
I agree but in my 6 years that I was a engine slug doing wildland firefighting here in Oregon 95% of the time the trucks were on gravel BLM roads. Our biggest problem was wheel base. Trucks that can't turn around on those roads were a even larger problem.
CA is pretty dry. I did off-roading for years in a 4x2 Toyota with a little bit of lift, and rarely had an issue. In the areas that get a lot of snow, you'd never want to go at those times anyway. They build most of the fire roads to be pretty mild.
@@xray606 agree the roads here are easy. But the fact is you don’t know where the engine will go, what state, or what area and when. It can be sent to Montana on a strike team. There are some harsh fire roads, but the engine doesn’t have to be on a road. And off roading in a Toyota is way different than a truck with water sloshing around and all your weight on a back axel. This was a Northern CA rig, tons of harsh fire roads and off road areas deep in the woods.
Because experience tells them it's not needed, and you're better off matching the tool to the job. It's the reason I switched my tires to a less aggressive tread... there will be times I can use the more aggressive tread, but if 99% of my drive doesn't require it, I'd rather have a smoother ride.
Thats way too cool. You gotta get it going 😝 out of curiosity, how do you know ow what SCBAs are? Most people don't know that unless they've been involved with fire

Remember going down to southern Utah, speed limit 85, they drove 55 all day in the 85 mph interstate pissing the world off and almost getting rear ended about 10 times. They drove 55 so they would not get to the fire before dark because they would put them to work if they got their earlier! So glad to get away from that circus! "BTW, the USFS is nothing about putting OUT the fires, they simply "manage" the fires! That's their bread and butter! No rush! The longer it takes, the more $$$ in their pockets! Now if their are strucrues involved, they will try to keep them from burning to save the homes & businesses, but that's all!" "And of course it was MY bread and butter too, but I did care about reducing the damage to the forest and getting the job done, also though, fires are natures way of pruning too!"
yes it requires air to open the brakes. It can have an air leak but as long as the compressor is strong enough to over come it then the brakes will be fine. The air leak still needs to be addressed though.

The girl moved it like 1 inch and asked if that was good enough with alignment of the inside tire😭 @13:25
That dog has a killer mullet
for real man. full on punk rock. 🤘
oh wow I didnt know you lived in the Rogue Valley!!! I grew up off off of Taylor Creek RD above the Morrison's Lodge, Grandpa had 80 acres up there miss the area. (moving back to drive for Terrain Tamers-Dillard)
I was not the 97 but your close. I didn't have any road footage so I just used some off a trip I just did to Susanville. That would of been on the 89 to the 44 right by Old Station.
Dawn and purple power brush and a shop vac. Make sure you clean the headliner too
dude thank you for the reminder for the headliner. I would of skipped over that.
SCORE!!! Great now I'll be on the gsa auction sight everyday, thanks 🙄
I'm here for you Brent. Helping you spend money that you don't need to hahaha.
@@PaperBeatsRock 🤣 worst part is we live in the same valley so when I see it on the road my jealousy will grow.
Its just motivation man to keep pushing 👍 There is more out there to be had.
Just found your channel today. Great stuff! And I recognize the area, I don't live too far away. That truck passed 1 mile from my house🙂
Thank you so much John and right on man. I love the area around here.
As soon as as you started your little drive and showed the surroundings I like that looks awful lot like Oregon and then I was looking at the vehicles in the background of you at that yard so Oregon plates and then when you showed the clothes down Market I looked it up so I just thought it was interesting to realize you're in Oregon you're still quite a ways away from me I'm in Oak Ridge
Right on Matt. Great to have another Oregonian watching. I actually live right outside of Shady Cove. Your only about 2, 1/2 hrs away. I have never been to Oakridge or on hwy 58. It maybe a trip I'll have to do come this spring when the weather is nicer.
@@PaperBeatsRock I hope that truck works out for you it's kind of cool and of course I'm so used to seeing those damn things right now with everything that's going on in the last couple months but I used to drive a single cab one when I ran a tow truck years ago and it was a 5 speed in the Internationals that I drove for Oak Harbor they were 7 speeds but I tend to drive 10 speeds and bigger
I don't think I've ever been recommended a channel from the same county as me.
Really. where are you from?
@@PaperBeatsRock well after watching the follow up video I realized we are in neihboring counties. But I'm over on the far side of GP towards Robertson Bridge. Before that it was Wolf Creek for almost 20 years. So the area just seemed familiar.
Really good buy!! She will clean up good.
Thank you. I'm definitely not looking forward to cleaning the cab lol
@@PaperBeatsRock ID do it for free if I lived by you. lol... I enjoy that kinda thing.. the before and after .
I think you got a steal. Honestly, I’m surprised that it’s not a 4WD unit. Looks clean - poop, pee, and cadaver rat notwithstanding.
hahah yeah clean but..... I agree though man. its an amazing deal. I feel even better now that I got it running/driving. new video just dropped.
I was gonna say that's a nice looking truck...I'll just say it has potential. That camera work was just amazing!
Thank you so much bud. I always love doing drone work and doing more and more to up my skills with the editing.
That engine was stationed on the Sierra NF at Trimmer ststion.
@@PaperBeatsRock aint wrong. buddy bought a h1, came with new engine and tires cause they reached "service life" but think only had like 1800 miles on it. never left the base..
@@oregonfordguy9812 damn. hell of a deal. People hate on the 6.5 but it's still a decent engine and gets the job done.
Have on an 01 466e for my box truck company. Wish I had a fleet of them.
Thank are very good engines Tommy. With a bit of tlc this one will last a good while.
Not sure why this suddenly turned up in my feed but it is a cool video
anybody else notice the delivery truck has both stacks facing passenger side
Oh wow didn't even notice that. Ill have to ask Chris why.
Yes the drivers side stack turned coming across the 412 in New Mexico with 75 mph cross winds, I have not had a chance to turn it back yet and since it was still tight I left it for now.
@@chriswetzel2240 I actually think it looks pretty badass. Start something new haahaha
On some of those new Pete’s one of those stacks is for decoration
@@ILHillbilly67 I work at a Pete dealership, you can option them with a weedburner, right stack only, right exhaust with left dummy stack, or both as real stacks. Of course, both being real costs you extra. Not sure how much though, I'm a mechanic, not in sales.
Old generation 2 or generation 3 model 62. That rig has been rode hard.
yeah im sure it has. back mountain roads bouncing wash boards and what not. regardless its still a hell of a deal.
Model 62 "B" fire engine. The model 62 "A" was the Ford F-800 regular cab.
lol they hit him with the old we down the street we be there in a min🤣🤣🤣
haha yup Aries, I got suckered in on that one. Lot of people been telling me "don't believe anything brokers say" I will be mindful going forward
@@PaperBeatsRock yeah them brokers is probably the grimmest off them all. Most of them have no knowledge of the trucking industry as far as i the real time frame on loads delivery. Also they over charge shippers and under pay the drivers. I seen videos and heard stories from my friends of them finding the same load on a different load board at the truck stop for a different price. i witness it back in 2008 when i was riding alone trucking with a friend.
@@iamonearies21 Damn that's dirty man. I have a few friends in the industry and they never got anything good to say about the brokers.
Man that looks like a great buy. Plenty of work but looks solid
I learned to drive a split in one just like that. Might take some TLC but a really good rig. Would be so cool if you kept it green but I doubt it.
Hell yes Bud. It does match my shop but I think we will be changing the color a little. Going to swap over to a matte OD Green with the rest blacked out. kind of match up with my time in the service.
@@PaperBeatsRock can’t wait to see it. I’ve spent many hours at the pump panel imagining what I would do with a cab/chassis like that.
nice video love these engines was a firefighter for 3 years out of Glide. I have family in Medford area and in Williams/ Grants Pass area. just found your channel today.

The body is worth a chunk of change. Auction means it is junk no one wants. Hope it is not worse then your told..
Next video is devently worth a watch Scott. Just got home and its looking like we got a real gem on our hands 😀
Gsa auction is open to anyone
Not sure you can even drive it in California due to EPA requirements.
You can't. California really screwed all their businesses over with that law. I live in Southern Oregon and we are fine... For now.
What in the actual hell happened to the dog?
Watching this unload fiasco had my patience screaming.
Man, you could sell that box and repay the whole truck!
For real man. that is the plan but we will see. 500 gallons is kinda low for a type 3 engine. also the box is way shorter than most private guys run. That being said we are going to hopefully get the cost of the truck out of it.
We wear air packs for any smoke or hazardous material sir, not just structure fires. What are you going to do with the old girl?
I'm removing the bed, tank, and pump. I'm turning the truck into a hauler. I use to do structure and wildland back in the day but we never carried SCBAs on our wildland trucks. I can see why though when you're the only agency around.
A type 3 wildland brush truck in 2WD is nuts.
They did make a 4wd model as well this year for the USFS. I guess it depends on the requirements of the area.
@@PaperBeatsRock most of the FS engines in CA operate in mountainous areas during the summer where pre established roads are the only option. True off-roading isn't really a thing like it is on BLM land so that's why 2wd works.
That's why I'm glad they haven't got the smell of vision
Your the lucky one Byron lol
2:35 I can read your mind here. You paused because you were like, "I said dollars, didn't I? Should I reshoot the video? ...Nah, keep going."
Dude, that was a steal, I'd be making a Race Transporter out of it myself, that thing is slick!
dude for real. There are some more that come up from time to time. definitely something to check out.
Would be nice for a small rural fire department if refurbished.
several of them have. We even have a few of them at local departments around here. This one is out of California and because of State law it can't be used there because of the EPA diesel emission laws they have put into place.
It would make one hell of a welding rig.
for sure. I really want this to be a multi-purpose truck.
@@PaperBeatsRock I’d turn that extended part into a sleeper so I could have overnight trips without a hotel.
lordy lord. what are you up to now.
dt466 will be easy refire. should be easy fix. and that will make a great hauler. find a western hauler bed, and a 10spd/od with a single speed rear end.
oh yea and a paint job.
For sure. I was thinking of maybe doing a swap over to 4wd. They got MRAP t cases at the auction and can put some mrap axles under it. I will defiantly need to look at proper gears and trans set up for the hwy though.
Yup already on my mind set. USFS paint is pretty ugly and getting faded makes it even worse.
@@PaperBeatsRock for gearing and highway use i wouldn't. itll be reved up and angry under load. if your gonna use it for a hauler I'd think simpler. the old powerline IH trucks were 4x4 and a donor might be better for 4x4 and still give you decent use.
Add ODO-BAN to cleaning mix.
Right on man. Thank you for the heads up. will check it out.
Looks like it may have got a little toasty on the officer side when you look at the reflective sticker.
yeah Daniel that's our guess as well. Sure doesn't take much to cook them stickers. supriced the paint all around it is fine though.
when you go to clean that out I’d wear a good respirator to protect yourself from any of those nasty little germs/disease that rat crap could have
For sure man. I'm dreading the cab clean up for sure. going to be so nasty.
😁😁😁 I thought that road looked familiar. I live here too
lol $1,800, I almost can't believe it, what a steal.
Yeah man. It was a pretty good deal.
That thing is awesome !
yes it is. I was out working on it today and recording video. Next video is going to be good.
@@PaperBeatsRock looking forward to watching this build and learning more
When you’re passing the next video love to see more
Never understood why they would make an off-road wildland truck without 4x4.
Dude, you stated that the inside smells bad, yet u left the dead rat in the storage area. take some gloves and REMOVE THE RAT.
haha yeah it needs cleaning bad.
So jealous love the type 3 engines
Thanks man. I really lucked out on getting this.
Thats way too cool. You gotta get it going 😝 out of curiosity, how do you know ow what SCBAs are? Most people don't know that unless they've been involved with fire
I joined the local volunteer Fire Department when I was 17 did structure, wildland, and EMS tell I was 23 and joined the Navy. I held the departments fast SCBA time for ever until my buddy Stu joined the department and then is as a constant back and forth trying to beat each other.
@@PaperBeatsRock nice! I knew you were navy but didn't know you did fire as well, I joined my local volunteer FD two years ago, next to my wife and daughter it's the best thing I've done, all the hassles and hard calls are worth it in the end
For sure bud. Its extremely rewarding to be there and helping people during the worst of times. There is a big part of me that misses it a lot and then the other that.. well.. I'm still dealing with stuff.
I think scba's and structure fire gear are only carried on usfs engines from calif.
I would love that truck
Its a pretty sweet deal. cant believe myself.

yes sir. I grew up in the Wimer area and have fond memory's of going down to Craig's market and getting jo jo's
What did that dog do to deserve that?
Worked 10 years in Helitak, some good crews, some not so good crews! Got a load of snow boarders one summer, what a bunch of dim wits! They couldn't drive the "Buggy's" worth a crap, could barely drive a stick shift and over heated two of the buggy's pretty bad, hate to be the guy who bought those bad apples!
What a broker lie to a drive or customer! I am not surprised.
How much cost/time/miles for the 2 Towing Vehicle's?
I do video showing cost up to date.
Wow, lot of truck talk love it (Great video)
If it looses AIR it stops, correct? Or is that ONLY the trailers?
yes it requires air to open the brakes. It can have an air leak but as long as the compressor is strong enough to over come it then the brakes will be fine. The air leak still needs to be addressed though.
Good camera work man I like the over head view
