    Caught your series because of the 466. Very entertaining. I would have done everything that I could to clean up the rat crap before putting hands and arms all in it. Run it up on blocks on one side and used the fire hose to wash interior out. Probably would empty the nearest reservoir though. Your aunt is a trooper.

    When it gets around freezing, time to add some anti gel additive to the tanks. I got a 96 f250 with the 7.3 and on these, there is a fuel bowl heater that shorted out on the highway causing the 30a fuse to the ECM to blow. When replacing the fuel bowl heater, I found it burried in sludge that looked like wet clay which also blocked off the fuel bowl drain port. Cleaned it up, replaced the heater and fuse and filter and she has been great ever since. I also leave the key on for about 30 seconds after the wait light goes out to let the glow plugs get even hotter.

      Right on Stephen. Sadly the DT466 inline 6 that's in it doesn't have glow plugs. International did put intake heaters on them but that was not until 2004. I'm sure that we are having fuel bleed off somewhere in the system or I have read that it can be because of the ECU. It will defiantly be something I have to dive into soon because I need it to start on cold days as well.

    The engine sounds like the typical engine that has spent its whole life with ether. They spin over fast and easy but won't kick off and start, this is due to low compression, usually from cracked piston rings. They get cracked from the use off to much ether. However, given the state of the fuel system was in it could also be that the injectors are clogged and not atomising the fuel in a nice spray pattern. Anyway, if and when when you pull the injectors to get them serviced you will be able to do a compression check.
    I also have an ex fire engine that was a bucket lift pumper, I purchased it just as a chassis cab, but like yours it had a crazy amount of extra switches and wiring in the cab which took a lot of sorting and removal.
    I can imagine you are going to come up against a lot of hurdles in removing that box, lots more wiring and awkward plumbing too. I wish you well with it, I will be avidly following your progress.
    David in the UK.

    • @PaperBeatsRock
      @PaperBeatsRock Рік тому +2

      Thank you David. I agree that its mostly likely something with the fuel system do to how nasty things were. We will be diving into that once we get this bed off because its not proper to just let it be that way. Also like you said the wiring and plumbing is something I dread. We have just started to crack into that and its extremely difficult in lots of these tight areas and that also makes it hard to show that on screen. We will just keep cracking on and make it happen.

      AS I wish this truck had glow plugs. unfortunately, it doesn't. International didn't even put an intake warmer on the DT466 until 2004. We did replace the fuel filters right when we got it running in the video before this but the fuel system was so nasty that I'm sure that's what I'm still fighting with. The injectors probably are super nasty and need to be pulled as well as the whole system checked for leaks.
