- Hi I'm Meg! My F150 has been a bit neglected, so today, I'm taking 2014 F150 EcoBoost to the car wash and giving her an oil change. Let's see what today's adventures bring...
#truckwash
The world needs more people like you Meg! I was an auto/diesel/motorcycle mechanic for more than 20 years and going. I worked at a dodge dealer, Peterbilt and a transmission repair shop for half of that 20. If you ever need any advice hit me up. Love your channel. Keep on doing what you are doing!
Thank you so much @spiritof1977 ! Appreciate that 😊
Absolutely 😊
Good Job Meg,. It's always better to change hot oil; flushes it out better. Just wear gloves👍
Yeah, when I was watching your bumper video I was thinking “she needs to sand blast those bumpers and prime them better” but as I have never done this myself and only watched UA-cam videos I figured you knew better and kept my opinion to myself.
So, we both learned! Thanks for the content
I definitely learned a lot about proper prep techniques in that project! Thanks for watching!
You did get the click on the torque wrench, but at 20 lbs it’s super quiet and a gentle click that’s hard to feel/hear if you haven’t felt it a lot or practiced with it. Luckily, if it was still able to turn, it shouldn’t have hurt anything.
A direct-to-metal epoxy primer will really help with the rust prevention when you redo the bumpers as it is a waterproof primer (still needs to be applied correctly), but it’ll last a lot longer, and so will whatever you decide on for the topcoat finish.
Keep up the great work, I love your enthusiasm and perseverance, it makes your videos such a pleasure to watch.
Her dog created those yellow bumper stains.
It's Saturday morning and you know what that means, coffee time with my favorite mechanic/carpenter/computer tech. I sure hope your "partner" realizes just how lucky he is to have you around taking care of all these tasks...... I also couldn't help but notice the subscriber count continues to grow. Means your doing something right Meg congrats. See you next week
Thank you, Rob! Lol he does! For years he's been the one doing it, so it's nice to be able to learn these things for myself and help out as well 😊 And yes thanks I'm so grateful to see the subscriber count continue to grow. See you tomorrow!
Great job Meg. When you get around to doing the bumpers I would recommend having them sandblasted. It’s pretty much the only way to get rid of the rust permanently.
Just watched the tint video yesterday. When the weather gets warmer you should consider vinyl wrap. Once you get the hang of it, it is really fun to do.
Nice job Meg!!! On your next oil change make sure to check that plastic drain plug gasket. Those LOVE to crack and cause a leak. Do some research and find a metal gasket or see if you can find the oem style with the rubber gasket built in.
Keep up the good work!!!
Yep , I would do the same ! = will on next oil change bring new rubber gasket and get rid off plastic one !
Thanks so much Colin! Ya that gasket seemed a bitch sketchy lol but that's just what they had in stock for my truck, however now that I know they need to be replaced, next time I go to change my oil, I'll pre-order that oem one!
U have The Best Enthusiasm! Love it! Cheers from Wisconsin!
Thank you, Paul! Appreciate that
I dab of oil on the filter gasket helps. It can be tightened with a wrench, just not too much. Three quaters of a turn from the point the filter gasket touches is what I've read in service manuals. I did that once with a torque wrench, out of curiosity, and it exactly mached the manufacturers torque spec for the oil filter.
When you change your oil you want it hot. That way all the gunk in your engine is loose and will drain out. Put a long sleeve shirt on if you need to. Leave oil filler cap screwed in until after your remove drain plug. That way you don't get as big a splash when oil starts coming out. You might want to consider a strap type wrench to get your old filter out. You are supposed to tighten new oil filter 3/4 - 1 turn after gasket starts to make contact. I take white out and mark the 3, 6 9 and 12 o'clock positions on filer so zi can tell when it is properly tightened.
So very happy to see your newest endeavors!!! Also very happy to see your channel is growing for you( I knew it would)!!! Meg, we adore your wonderful personality and your amazing fortitude and the hope that you give average people, that YES they can move out of their comfort zone and accomplish things that they never knew they could...continue with the genious personality and watch your hopes blossom like the coming spring flowers!!!
Great job Meg! It was a pleasure to follow you and your work! I'm looking forward to the new video!
Great job changing your oil and filter Meg
Brilliant! I love how nothing fazes you Meg! Cannot wait for your next adventure!,🙈😄😄😄❤️❤️
Thank you @josephsteed8015 !
A small tip as usual Meg, when filling the oil always take out the dipstick, as you put oil in it allows the air to push out the dipstick tube. You got a bit lucky it didn't burp at you and throw an oil bubble in your face. Keep up the good work, I'm sure you are inspiring people that think they can't do these things!
I appreciate your attitude and desire to learn and get IT done! Your video editing is also spot on, well done!
Thanks so much! Appreciate that!
meg your are truly amazing at what you do keep the videos coming. I love you my friend ❤
I have the exact same truck w/6.2L. Lots of Rust in NY! We love roadsalt! My rust is in the same place but much more. Rust also happens around the bumper sensors! The wheel rear arches were all orange, I spray them with white rust paint every year.
The most beautiful mechanic I have ever seen in my life. Good luck
Thank you! That's very kind
Excellent job! Yes, right to change the crush washer, and that's why the torque setting didn't seem correct, the washer was being crushed. No need to worry, as it will be fine! Next time you attack that front bumper to tackle the rust, maybe use some rust neutralising treatment? Meg fix complete!!
Great video Meg, loved your walk with the dog..
Thank you! I'm glad you liked the dog walk adventure too!
Great job Meg!! I would only suggest to always clean the oil especially drain and filter region. That area should always be dry, so if you start having leak and drip issues, then you'd notice it.
Well done girl!!
Thank you! And good suggestion!
When in the coin wash I always wash the engine compartment. It keep the rust down and it is always clean and much easier to fix break downs
For some reason I keep thinking the newer F150 are " All " 5.0 Coyote Engines. For the Sump Plug / Oil Drain Plug get the OEM from Ford Dealer. Most OEM sump plugs have built in washer where it can be used 2-3 times.
Meg, don't forget to put on the cap for the motor heater plug. Congrats Meg on changing the oil and tearing off the back fender cover.
I was wondering about that myself. don’t have that here but we’re not super cold like where Meg is so now I understand.
I really love your videos and your attitude in it. Keep going forward with this. Doing an amazing job by yourself congrats.🤗
You're doing fine just as good as any other self-taught mechanic keep up the good work. Sending my love. 🌹🍀
It's awesome watching you get more and more confident with each project! And, after that intake and EGR job on the Jetta, this must have been a very welcome change of pace haha!
Thank you! Yes, it was a nice little break from the EGR project lol!
Meg I am a mechanic and you are doing great ❤
Nice job! Used to do oil changes myself when my parents still lived in a house with garage, but now I don't have place to do it myself anymore. Back then tried different methods to fix rust damage too, but rust just tends to come back when it once has settled in. Never really got conclusive proof what method works to keep it away for longer time. We have snowy winters and salty roads here in Finland too ;)
Very cool mountain views, nice place to take a walk 👍
Hi Meg 👋🏻 Thank you 😊 Great job as always my friend 👊🏻👍🏻 God Bless 🙏🏻 Appreciate you! Have a great weekend! 🫶🐾
Nice work Meg!
Greetings from Brazil!
Funnily enough, I've recently been getting oil warning light come on after driving for more than 20 mins, but stop for a few minutes and it can be fine. But decided to just top it up, and remember hearing that you should start engine up for a bit and then re-check oil, I think so oil gets worked through all the channels. But was never sure how long you should leave engine running, was thinking 1-2 mins not 15-20 seconds. Annoyingly need to get more oil, but should change filter, and check for leaks.
Ha! just an oil change today? Looking foreward to seeing this one. After last weeks vw encounter this should be a breeze! Thanks for another video to start my weekend off with.
Hi Meg love your videos keep them coming what about a car cruise or local car show video if you have them in your area also love the nature walks
trying every socket in the box and then going for the vice grips made me laugh!
You know why the engine controll is lightning? Good job Meg the world needs more womans like you
Greetings from Germany
Those oil filter pliers are something to save and keep handy. I bought mine way back in 1994 and they work on my trucks and cars and my harleys. Back in 1994 those were 30.00
Great job Meg, you make me smile.
Thank you!
My favorite and sweetest car mechanic did it again. Well done Meg! At 12:33 though I had to pause the video for a short while because that sound made me go to the bathroom 🚽. How’s the Jetta doing? Until the next one! X
Controversial....But i always try and pre-fill the oil filter where you can. Yours is a horizontal mounting, so you cannot fill it as such, but you could roughly half fill it with oil. Reason being is when you go to start the engine post oil change there will be no oil in the filter. It will take about 3 seconds to fill and longer for the oil pressure to rise. Meaning the big ends will be without oil pressure. Im a ex Saab Master Tech and in my training they told us to do it, so i still do it to this day.
15:05 Your engine block heater wire was mostly covered up when you reinstalled the shroud. It looks like it might be a bit difficult to reach now because it will be so far under the truck. Idk if that matters to you though? Just thought I should mention it. Thanks for posting!
Pennzoil Platinum, on sale at Candian Tire, combined with a rebate from Pennzoil (aka Shell) works out to sub $30 for 5 liters. Rebates are usually active twice a year. And I usually have a stock pile of oil (and air) filters on the shelf that I toss into my occasional RockAuto parts orders at the end as long as they don't increase the shipping price, hence $ bargain. Between maxing out oil sales+rebates opportunities, and accumulating filters, I usually have more than a year of supply on the shelf.
The latest trend in changing the oil is to use the power of negative pressure to suck up the oil from the engine through the hole in the gauge, making it easy to change the oil. I've been doing car maintenance as a hobby for decades, and once I learned how to replace things by sucking them up, I've always used that method ever since.
I think it's great, but in my case I haven't bought a tool for the filter, which I did with a fixed wrench and the old alternator belt to loosen the filter. You can try it one day.
Hey Meg! Another awesome video. I never knew that watching someone change the oil on a truck could be so enjoyable. The mountains I see when you make your trips to Canadian Tire are so beautiful. What part of Canada are you in? My only experience with Canada is about 3 hours spent in Niagara Falls, Ontario after walking across the bridge from Niagara Falls, New York. That and being a huge Rush fan have caused me to have a special affinity for Canada. I can't wait for the next video. Peace!!
Meg August - Hi Meg ! I've watched entire video and I'm impressed that You've done oil change the " old fashion " way = what I mean by that ? = You've remembered to lubricate rubber gasket /seal of new oil filter with a bit of oil . Also very important , that You've filled up with new oil to a half and You've started the engine ( to suck oil in ) , then You've added after that a bit more to make sure , that oil level is between min.-max. indicators on a oil dipstick . = PERFECT . It is also worth always to check again = oil level and oil sump bolt after 20-50 miles = that way You never go wrong . And You won't believe , how many ( even ) dealer services overfill a max. level with oil ( leading to terrible results like head gasket and etc.. ) . Regards PJ .
Hello Meg, I must say I always like to watch your videos. Good job on the oil change. I just had a thought on the drain plug gasket. You can buy the gasket separately either amazon or other online place and have a few on hands as you don't need to change the bolt on each oil change but should change the crush washer (sometime on cars they are aluminum or plastic) Hope this helps. Good job
Oh you can also have a cup that fits the filter they sell it at Canadian Tire I got some for my two cars, just take the filter and test the cup size at the store
Great job. I to struggle taking off the oil filter
As always awesome videos Meg truly inspiring keep up the good work
I admire your spirit so much! Keep it up!
Great video Meg
To fix your rust problems you have got to grit blast everything to bare metal then prime almost straight away to stop flash rust .Failing that and probably the best for you is to use rust converter to reform all rust to a paintable surface.
Yet again Meg you smashed it keep up the good work
Thank you, Craig!
Good job Meg, this was an easy job for you this week. I will say that you should wear better protection on your feet. 👍
Good luck changing your oil Meg
Another great video Meg...love your style👍
Don't feel bad about taking longer, even the pro's have problems with certain vehicles. The Lexus IS200 was the worst! When they came into my oil change shop especially when they were brand new, the filters were on excessively tight and they were horribly difficult to reach, AND they were in a location where you couldn't get a wrench on them. One day it was a New Lexus and both me and my lube tech had a hand on the filter to be able to get it to turn. We were convinced that they put the filters on before they put them in the car and put them on WAY too tight.
Better to do hot oil changes because hot oil has a lower viscosity which means it flows better, so it will drain more. Also the drain plug gasket is replaced at every oil change if you don't want it leaking. AND a lot of cars have aluminum drain pans, which means the metal is soft and over tightening can destroy them. I think on the Ford you're safe, but at the same time when replacing the engine on my MR2 I ended up putting the oil pan drain plug on hand tight and didn't realize it until thousands of miles later when I put a wrench on it to take it off and it didn't need a wrench. Didn't lose a drop. Got lucky. At the oil change I learned that the Lexus 2 liter engine oil filter had the same threads as my 1.6 liter MR2 oil filter. The seal was *slightly* bigger but my engine oil filter mounting plate was big enough so I put the bigger filter on, worked a treat. A lot of manufacturers share bits like that between models to save on costs.
Also there was a guy when the internet was new like 30 years ago who documented cutting open like 20 different oil filters. Mobil 1 filters were in the top 3 I think, Fram was at the very bottom. I bet if you searched you could find it.
Thank you @SeanBlader ! Sometimes it can get so frustrating when thinking "this should be easy! why is this taking so long!" but it's true, sometimes it just works like that, and especially when those filters are in such tricky spots! Sounds like that Lexus you were talking about was pain! And thanks so much for the tips on doing an oil change with hot oil, and replacing the gasket each time - that actually makes a lot of sense. I'll try and find that video you mentioned about looking at the different oil filters - sounds super interesting and I love doing comparisons and 'science experiments'. Thanks for watching and for the ongoing support on the videos!
If you plan on holding onto your truck for a while, consider finding a nearby Corrosion FREE or Krown service center. Alternatively, you can undertake the task yourself using a gallon of Blaster Surface Shield, air compressor, and spray bottle. Something to look into.
It's actually something I'm going to be doing myself, I just have to wait for the weather to get warmer!
@@Meg.August Fantastic! Here's my approach along with some tips: I use a sewer jetter drain kit attached to my pressure washer to effectively clean the frame and hard-to-reach areas. The key is to use hot water, which aids in dissolving salt and loosening any flaky, corroded steel. This cleaning step will take some time.
For removing corrosion, I've also used a needle scaler, among other tools. This part can be labor-intensive, and whether you decide to go through with it depends on your dedication to keeping your truck in good condition over time. Once completed, and with regular maintenance of Blaster Surface Shield (or a similar product), it shouldn't need to be redone. You can choose to skip this step. It's something I did since I plan to keep my truck for many years.
For protection, I apply Blaster Surface Shield, though Corrosion FREE or Krown are also effective alternatives. I use a Woolwax spray gun for its application, specifically the gun and bottles, but not their fluid since Woolwax and Fluid Film tend to wash off too easily. The wands included are especially useful. I undertake this maintenance annually to protect against metal corrosion. Having dedicated numerous hours to research and living in an area with heavy salt usage, I've found this method to be the most effective for me.
Good project and was fun to watch.
Thank you! Glad you liked it!
oil and filters go on sale at Canadian Tire regularly (including Mobil brand) … easy way to save a few bucks if you don’t mind buying it in advance … maybe save $20 or so per change?
I bought a truck from Skaha Ford too. Good to see another one out there. Where is your truck now?
GG! I remember my first oil change, it was a long day.
You're the best. We love you 💛
Thank you!
Hi Meg, I from Brazil and i like your channel!
Hello! thank you!
Like it take your rage out on the fender lol. Gj on the oil change but I would recommend tweaking the filter a bit with the tool. Just a tiny amount just to be sure.
Great job keep up the awesome work
Me again. Yes, I'm binging your videos, more or less in order. I have a safety suggestion for oil changes. Before you drain the oil, pull the dipstick out a foot or two and leave it that way. That's an old trick used in shops to minimize the possibility of starting an oilless engine should the mechanic have to leave in the middle of the job. Probably overkill in your case, but I've noticed that you are very detail oriented and safety conscious, and it's a simple failsafe.
Your so awesome. I do the same to my car and I love it.
Nice. High Five! ✋
Хорошая работа мне нравятся ваше видио
Cute Meg today as well~ ㅋㅋ
👍
Greetings from Estonia🎉
Good job ❤
Love your video meg
Keep kickin' ass girl ! ❤💪🏼
I like watching your videos and I gave you lots of support I hope your oil change go to mostly
They’ll soon know you on a first name basis at Canadian Tire as you’re there quite a bit. Maybe they’ll offer you discount for mentioning them in your vids ☺️
Yes! New Video! Like it, then watch it. I'm sure that's gonna be awesome 😊
Edit: Just as I expected, great as always! 😊
So well done as usual.
Use Skyco OSPHO Rust Remover Treatment on the bumper before you paint it
Looks like you just buried your Block heater cord under your front end when you put rubber flap back in place. The power cord should be routed up thru to your grill.
The bolt you couldn't unscrew most likely has a 10mm head.
Here's my kind words and support. Lol
🥰
NORMAL SERVICE RESUMES:
...It's only bloody Meg Time...!!!
😁😁😁
And now a Telegram spammer is here, hopefully @Meg.August sees it and lets us all know it's not her...
Been reported anywho.
great 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
Thank you!
goog job miss meg
Could this bolt be SAE instead of METRIC? 😮 18:47
meg next time put some papers under the car, so you don't fill with oil your garage floor
love your videos. i like your have a go attitude to everything. are you Canadian?
There’s some weird sorcery when it comes to oil filters. No sane person would ever put them on as tight as they are when you try to get them off!
it has to do with the heat of the engine. Which heat does make tighter.
Lol!
I have the same truck. That oil filter location is a pain. I fish a small cake pan down there to catch that oil when u pull the filter. Still makes a mess no matter what you do. Booo ford.
Such a pain of a spot lol! That's a good tip with the cake pan
What was that random 3 pin power cable hanging from inside the engine bay?
on a future video we need to work on the check engine light that is on.
Amazing
However, mistake made @Meg.August - whenever a filter gets changed, you need to put oil on the new filter O-ring!
But keep learning. 😃
EDIT:
Hey Meg, ignore the above message, missed it. Has been kindly pointed out to me that you did pre-oil the O-ring...
I FAIL!
🤣🤣🤣
Hi ! If You would watch closely , She actually did = 13:38 min. of video ! Regards !
@pjczuba I'll go check that out then, thanking you kindly!
How I missed it, it was the thing of note I was looking out for...
EDIT:
Upon reviewing the footage, I completely missed this scene.
As the great man Jim Cornette says - "You are correct sir!"
🤣
Does it ever get warm there lol
