Bruh, Mindanao is ROUGH. Less English spoken than in other regions, more power outages than in other regions, more poverty than in other regions & muslims giving you the evil eye. I lived on the west side of the island for about a year and occasionally travelled to south-western & south-central areas of the island. One harrowing time back in 2018 while travelling through a "muslim autonomous region" on my way to Pagadian City the engine blew in a crappy Chinese truck I was riding in and the other people riding in the truck with me took me into the bush and hid me behind a giant rock until help arrived because they were afraid I would be abducted by terrorists & the military armed with M4 type rifles came to my house every week to check up on me.. they gave me a special phone number to call incase anything happens or seems suspicious because at that time other expats living in my general area were being abducted, held for randsome and executed.

Buys coffee.leaves. “Do you sell small water?” “Know where I buy Gatorade?” Buys ice cream! “ Howdy…I’m lost…which way is my hotel?’ “Do you have SOFT bread?’ “How about this one? Is this soft?” Is all the vids click bait? I’m taking it he is a Monger. I’m old now, but word of advice, Saturday or not, I would have stayed around that quiet little university town! Scotty, FYI especially if you have Android phone you can download maps for an entire area before you go there, obviously when you have fast internet, that way when you arrive, you won't need a signal, to use your map.
@@Regular_Guyph How to use Google Maps offline Open the Google Maps app. Tap on your profile picture in the top right corner. Tap “Offline Maps.” Tap “Select Your Own Map.” Move the rectangle over the area you plan to visit. Click “Download.” And if you’re staying in a specific location - such as a city or a town - there’s an even simpler way: Search for your destination in Google Maps. (For example: “Philadelphia.”) Tap the three dots in the top right corner of the information panel. Tap “Download offline map.” Maps will still give you the option to make adjustments to the range of the area. And that’s it. In both cases, Maps will show you an estimate of how much space the file will take up on your phone before you download. Generally speaking, the more precise you can be with your location, the smaller the file size. If you turn on “auto-update” in the settings menu, your maps will refresh about once every two weeks to include the latest data. When offline, keep in mind that you won’t have real-time traffic data until you have connectivity again. Any travel time between destinations before then will be an estimate calculated as if there is no traffic congestion.
I find it amusing how much you have realized how little English is spoken in these small towns. They say English is the second language but in small towns not so much. My wife and I own a house in Baguer. You can find it on your map. It’s there in Mindanao. But for a several mile stretch I would say on 30% of the people speak English well enough to have a conversation. Great video. Keep up the good work.

I don’t know how expats can spend more than a month in the Philippines. I’ve been there 3 times already and want to leave as soon as I arrive. It’s just so boring and the humidity is hell. It’s just so bland. No wonder so many Filipin@s want to leave.
The scenery can be very nice, more I don't need. The heat is a problem, I visit the country in dry season, so rain is welcome. If my gf didn't live there I never would have visited the Philippines. It's too far away. The plane travel is much worse for me than the heat in the Philippines.
The woman and the man at 33:56 is saying your a very handsome man "poromo gwapo". Love your interactions with the locals, i was not very far away from where you are last year.
I was with my 25yo daughter who says I am a dirty old man for going to the Philippines. We were in the market when a girl younger than her yelled to her friend - "hoi, pogi kuya" (handsome older brother) so they could both check out the talent. I think that was when my daughter realised young women are just as dirty as me. I have to say I am hot in australia too but poor so I am treated as a sex object. In the philippines I am hot and rich and treated as a success object.
So much to unpack here, and some backseat driving: 1. As a vicarious tourist, blasting through Mindanao, I really need my avatar to protect himself from the sun better. Long sleeve moisture-wicking shirt, sombrero. 2. The lady at the restaurant who took you upstairs engineered that so you'd get a great view 😲 3. Who said "daddy"... wtf?? 4. It might be too much human contact, but maybe to add a little zest you could ask at the barangay halls if there's someone who could show you around so you won't miss any hidden gems in these little towns. Either that, or for the click factor, maybe try to find the local beauty contest winners or old timers for some juicy tsismis. Also... HOW ABOUT THOSE JETS???? 5. I've started a piggery in Sindangan and about to close on some retail space for a dry good store, so you have a standing invitation to come back by for some rice or feed!

@WilliamFluery - You are very observant. Vloggers like these are cringey. That's why he doesn't reciprocate the friendly reception.

If a girl asks you to “go upstairs” always do it.
No, that's how you get kidnapped and ransomed by Islamic Extremists. Or the Chinese backed organ harvesting trade.
Which is worse though, waking up in a bath tub with no kidneys and less than a day to live or being a hostage for potentially months, locked in a dark room, pooping in a bucket and eating probably actual shit and at the end they might just shoot you in the face anyway because some countries, like the UK, don't pay ransoms.

Fun video seeing these smaller towns. I know I will never get there so living vicariously through your vids Scottie! 2000 pesos seems like a lot for a small hotel room in a small town, but I guess that is capitalism. Supply vs demand and all that.
Foreigners usually don't get any breaks but overpay. I'd book through Agoda.

I saw Tiger at the Masters so it wasn’t him…plus Did you see his receding hairline. Ohhhhhh…was he the baby daddy? Hmmmmm
Yes I think the tiger would...

The heat is not more than usual. April and May are the peak of summer in Philippines. Exploring the backwaters of the Philippines is exhausting and repetitive. Gets old after you've done it a dozen times or so.
Hey, you're in my neighborhood now. My inlaws live along that stretch. When I go there I am the only foreigner around. Great inlaws, but I could not live there. Her papa just about fainted when I rode on top of the jeepney I rented for an outing. Too many bad actors around texting their cousins up ahead to ambush you. Be careful.
I have a new goal now..im going to start spreading out on the big islands now..
The places you see.and .how it feels traveling like that..
Ive done it with Northern Leyte, The Camotes and Northern Cebu..
The people in Mindanao are so cool
I must say the small towns in the Philippines look pretty impoverished, can't see a reason to bother traveling to them once you've seen a couple of them?
Same Sh!t different place.
It feels exactly as tiresome as you say. And traveling in the Philippines is exhausting. Maximum of 30 mph most of the way.
Depends what you are after. You can always go vacation in the French Riviera and amuse the hell out of some snobby girls by asking them out.

So how is it working out with gas? Always someplace to get it? How's your mileage?
Off the wall, but are there public bathrooms along the way or do you resort to bushes?
people pee on the sidewalks. In the Philippines, the world is your toilet. The locals sell gas in glass pop bottles all over the place, if you can;t find a station.

How do you transport your scooter across islands or long distance? Or you rent it on every island?
His scooter, he bought it and has had it less than a month. Ferries are the most common way from island to island. The Philippines has many with over 7,500 islands.
He just purchased that new scooter a few weeks ago, a very nice scooter. You can take your scooter on the ferry boats when traveling between islands.

I’m fairly certain one of the store women called you “gwapo” which means handsome in Bisaya. You should really try to speak some Cebuano/Bisaya when in Mindanao. People will be more welcoming than if you speak Tagalog 😊
How do you learn the language if it's not on Duolingo or Google translator?
Cebuano, Ilocano and Tagalog are.
Language is THE problem in the Philippines. Even for the natives.
You went to Mati. Dahican surf resort is quite nice. I’m still 6 weeks out before I get back. Safe travels. The campostella road is nice but I guess you passed there already. Still watching Scotty! Welcome to Mindanao! 😊

how can you perch for 7 hrs straight on a cycle? my back would be aching.
If there’s one thing I learn from these videos, is to stay off line, the Filipinas there look nothing like the Filipina on this vlog
So true, filters be a bitch
Foreigners only get the leftovers. You do not get a hot pinay. They are all taken.
First video. Kinda quirky dude! Is this his regular schtick? Like walking through towns with his camera saying (Gomer Pyle-ish) “HI! HOWDY!…is your bread SOFT?” “Hi..Do you sell food in this here restaurant?” “Know where I can get a coffee?’” Travels to 7-11. Buys coffee.leaves. “Do you sell small water?” “Know where I buy Gatorade?” Buys ice cream! “ Howdy…I’m lost…which way is my hotel?’
“Do you have SOFT bread?’ “How about this one? Is this soft?”
Is all the vids click bait?
I’m taking it he is a Monger. I’m old now, but word of advice, Saturday or not, I would have stayed around that quiet little university town! With a little digging, I guarantee you would have found a fishing hole!

Scotty, FYI especially if you have Android phone you can download maps for an entire area before you go there, obviously when you have fast internet, that way when you arrive, you won't need a signal, to use your map.
That's a good idea
@@Regular_Guyph of course it is!
@@Regular_Guyph How to use Google Maps offline
Open the Google Maps app.
Tap on your profile picture in the top right corner.
Tap “Offline Maps.”
Tap “Select Your Own Map.”
Move the rectangle over the area you plan to visit.
Click “Download.”
And if you’re staying in a specific location - such as a city or a town - there’s an even simpler way:
Search for your destination in Google Maps. (For example: “Philadelphia.”)
Tap the three dots in the top right corner of the information panel.
Tap “Download offline map.”
Maps will still give you the option to make adjustments to the range of the area.
😉

I find it amusing how much you have realized how little English is spoken in these small towns. They say English is the second language but in small towns not so much. 5.
