    You don't see it in the anime but eventually the queen scolds farma and tells him to raise prices, not the the standard that most other nobles clinics do, but enough so he doesn't go bankrupt.

      @lebaznz Рік тому +110

      It's not even entirely about stopping him from going bankrupt. It's also he's got his prices set so low that, in his attempt to be philanthropic, he's accidentally creating a monopoly.

    • @Not_interestEd-
      @Not_interestEd- Рік тому

      @@lebaznz funny thing is he already has a monopoly in the beauty industry with his face creams, which are LEAGUES safer than bloodletting mixed with lead and mercury white face powder. And all it takes is one conversation with the Queen to outlaw the Commoner's Guild, since they don't actually know what they're doing, thus qualifying themselves as frauds and their entire businesses a scam.
      "But what about the nobles? They're gonna be fine!" Not entirely, they'd probably hear the news of the Guild going under due to being a scam for insufficient knowledge, which might shake them up, and make other nobles reliant on their services wary of their personnel. It'd be a huge ripple effect.
      In an attempt to save more people, he created a monopoly, potentially 2.

    • @lebaznz
      @lebaznz Рік тому +62

      @@MinnesotaNnja Except it...isn't? She demands he raise his prices because, and I quote "If your store dominates in fine goods other merchants starve. Those of means, especially nobles, must allow commerce between the common folk." OTHER merchants starve because of his low prices. Prices he can maintain without fear of bankruptcy because he is a noble. He's undercutting the prices of everyone else out there in a spirit of making sure even commoners can afford good medical treatment. This undercutting would eventually lead to OTHER people actually going bankrupt because they couldn't compete with the low prices. This was a common practice of the monopolies of the early 1900s IRL. So yeah, he's accidentally creating a monopoly by attempting to be philanthropic with his extremely low prices.

    • @Not_interestEd-
      @Not_interestEd- Рік тому +13

      @@lebaznz I wanna note something-
      It would be _trivially_ easy to outlaw the Commoner's Guild by way of his business partner. All that needs to be done is have an audience, he testifies how the Guild works (proving they don't know what they're doing, making their businesses a scam), and viola! A paradox is born!
      Do I give Farma free reign in the Commoner's market or do I take action against the literally proven scams that are under the guise of a business?

    I mean, it makes more sense for Farma to keep prices low. He'll be able to see more people who may not have sufficient income, which in turn, means that word gets out about affordable treatment and despite the fact he has an infinite supply of medication, he'll have an immensely high demand for his goods and services.

      @@Freedomcustom Yep. Farma was essentially being _too_ nice with his prices and was unintentionally driving other doctors to the brink of bankruptcy. But at the very least, even once he raises his prices, he's still affordable and provides higher quality care than even the doctors who tend to the nobility and royals.
      His intentions were undeniably pure and good, but they were having unintended negative consequences (Farma is the God of Medicine, not the God of Business after all!). But at least moments like this will still get word out that Farma's treatments are still fair and affordable while also being very high quality and effective. Still, I'm sure in an emergency where it was literally a matter of life or death, he'd still treat the patient even if they couldn't afford his prices (in which case he'd probably waive them for that particular instance).

America has a relatively high quality of healthcare, second highest spending on medical research per capita (and highest in total) and generally shorter wait times for treatment. (Although another large contributor to the high price is the existence of private insurance companies who rake in massive profits whereas in most of other countries health insurance is state run).
      If we look at the statistics the difference is quite significant, average healthcare spending in the US is $12,318 per year whereas second place (Germany) is $7383, with most of Europe below 50% of the US.

    This is why I fully endorse the Singaporean healthcare system.
    Where the government knows that you are too stupid to save money for your healthcare so automatically deducts a portion of your pay which goes directly into a medical savings account for an emergency. Granted there are government subsidies for people who don’t have enough income, but it’s one of if not the most efficient healthcare system in the world.

      @@Toritori-ke9sf No, that is completely backwards. The US is way too big, and the bureaucracy would be a nightmare. The most efficient option would be individual healthcare systems set up by each state. That way they would be better structured in accordance with their local populations desires. And more or less, it should be voluntary to participate in public healthcare so that citizens who don’t want to use it are not obligated to pay taxes on it.

      @@bullmoosevelt4495 individually setting aside taxes on a individual basis is what makes the bureaucracy much more complicated. If they made everyone pay into that pool.... similarly to social security, where most of my generation at this point may never get to see it when we retire, we couldn't say no. I certainly don't want to pay for social security but it ends up getting pulled out of my check anyways. Same with FICA taxes too. I don't see the point of that tax as it may not affect me whatsoever but that is what it is.
      ATM some states are doing their own free healthcare, however the system is too small to support the entire state's population, even worse on states with lower population.
      By having a universal healthcare system that is forcibly taxed, majority benefits. Except the people in which the scale doesn't favor them, likely few of the upper middle class and more detrimental towards the wealthier side. Depends on the extremity of the individual's income scale, poor to the wealthy one percent.
      Also if the US had this system going back in the 1940s when a bunch of changes to the US economic policies were being made, if that healthcare policy survived, nobody today would care so much to where they are protesting about it. It'd be the norm like Canada's and the EU's healthcare system. Very few complaints in that timeline than our's number of complaints against universal healthcare.
      It is what it is though. TBH, I really don't care about this. As long as people are healthy around me, I'm okay. Being blessed with a healthy body, I'm fortunate to not be the one that relies on multiple doctor visits monthly or quarterly.

    Skipped at the end, Falma says he initially made the treatment free for children, but the Queen told him to at least charge the minimum so that this wouldn't put others out of business. Same as his other treatments and cost for adults, he is forced to charge at a higher rate than the commoners, because else this would really put them out of business since Falma is blessed with the medicine god blessing and also has the royal pharmacist's knowledge, yet he charges too low.

    "A severe cold", it's not that simple, influenza can be lethal even when not caused by SARS viruses, Influenza has a decent mortality rate in the most vulnerable populations, aka children and the elderly.
    Most of the treatment is symptomatic because the biggest risk is the body overreacting to the infection leading to unsafe body temperatures, as it seems to be the case for this girl.
    Fever of 40+ celsius may require extreme intervention, like an ice bath.

      If memory serves, an ice or alcohol bath can lead to shock due to the large temperature difference and (just looked it up) because your body will _raise_ core temp in response to the cold, which can lead to organ failure. ERs no longer use cold baths to treat high fevers, they use a combination of IV, lukewarm bath if needed, and fever reducing meds.
