Preston Blair isn't very famous, but he has worked in some very major projects, early on he was an animator for Walt Disney, he left during the animator's strike in 1941 and joined MGM studio. Later in his life he also worked on Hanna-Barbera's The Flintstones. A very impressive career I would say.
In my opinion ; Animation directly impacts the art, because in animation, you have to draw an object/animal atleast 8 times thus learning becomes 8 to 24 times faster. That's also why animators are really good artists too
3:01 as he said lot of modern things exist out there (well... it's because this is something which can't be changed just like if you wanna draw a human portrait you can draw it in many styles but the formation is still gonna be the same 2 eyes, 1 nose, 1 mouth) and oh man I've been watching this dude from so long and tbh he is a big inspiration for me, he deserves 1 million.... I mean isn't that great to inspire and help more people? [Edit it's 2:56 and not 3:01 where he said that]
Another great animation books are from the book series "Tezuka School of animation" vol 1: "Learning the basics", and vol 2: "Animals in motion". I have both of them... They are soooooo good.
I knew of this book like 20 years ago and had it for almost that time. I got it for animation. Before that in the early 90s the go to books were the Animator's Survival Kit and The Illusion of Life. There are so many go books. All my inspiration began with Warner Bros and Hanna Barbera from the 60s and 70s.
I used to have the three LARGE Preston Blair books that I THINK are what make up that book. Unfortunately I loaned them to someone years ago who never returned them. :(
Funny, I just decided yesterday that I was gonna buy this as my next book and now I see your video. There's a revised edition that supposed to be better format + extra content.
Western animation did a lot to make their characters appear 3d in 2d wotld Using basic spheres and cubed for better understanding of characters along with traditional animation techniques are very interesting to see These are some very essential soups and tricks
