Well I'm playing tomorrow and I was gonna leave my driver in the bag coz it causes me nothing but grief. Will try youre tips see how I get on. Cheers for tips james.
Great video When my irons are working my woods go left When my woods are working my irons go right So I game up to a 2iron for when my irons work and 5wood and 22hybrid for when the woods work
This is me! I am considering to tee the ball higher, currently teeing it with halve the ball above the face. I hardly ever hit the ground but ball either go straight left or push fade/slice. Irons go straight or little draw.
Great to see a instructional video. Would like to see one about hitting a 3wood. Seem to hit it left off a short tee. But switch to driver and it’s straight. Trying to hit it the same.
Hi James. I hit my irons consistently with a tight draw. Everyone thinks I am a swing robot. However, I never take a divot despite setting up as you described. As a result, I hit everything very high and short relative to my swing speed. 95 mph driver, 225-235 carry (straight flight). 7 iron carry 140 with 32° of loft. Help a lifetime sweeper!
My issue has been the complete opposite. As I have gotten better with my driver I have taken a step backwards with hitting my irons pure. I think I am stuck somewhere in between starring at the ball and an inch in front of the ball.
One thing I have noticed is a lot of power hitters seem to hang back through the hitting zone. Like there’s a significant drop in head position, instead of staying level. There’s also a lean away from the target. Is this like a fundamental of hitting up on the ball?
Really enjoyed that James - although I hit my driver straight ish more often than not, it’s because I hit it really low - works brilliant in the summer but I think I’m gonna lose loads of distance in the winter as it won’t be running as much 😢
I fitted myself and built a #2 & #3 hybrid to my specs. Crazy long and straight every time I pull it out of the bag. For the last year, the driver and 3 wood are just bad memories that aren't anywhere near my golf bag anymore.
Interesting to see with the big Fore Left shot that the club path was actually 10 to the right! It’s my bad shot too with long clubs and I wonder whether I’ve been working on the wrong things to sort it out..
I was the same with my driver james so i tried a 2iron and its helped me 10fold finding more fairways and i inly lost 8 yards in distance but would rather fairways than trees.
I would love a best of long iron tips through the years of golf and which work for you. If I find a good hybrid the 5 irons new address is in the garage if I don't get this sorted out.
My favorite club in my bag is the Driver. I'm a good ball striker from 6 iron down to wedges. I tend to struggle with my long irons(4,5). Sometimes I strike it pure, sometimes I struggle. I'm using titleist CB irons. Give some tips on how to hit pure long iron shots consistently.
It's been a couple months since I've gotten back into golf after a 10+ year absence and not playing since I was a teenager. I can shape my irons a bit, I can stripe my 3 wood off the deck 260-270y all day straight down the pipe, but I literally haven't hit a single shot with my driver yet that wasn't 10 feet off the ground or a few counties over to the right. At this point I just keep my driver in the bag so it at least looks like I know what I'm doing
I kind of have the opposite problem. Normally hit about 10 or more Fairways off the tee, but then miss my green in regulation. Probably the main reason why I am a 8 handicapper and can't get to scratch.
Hi James, good video as usual, love the daily content. Can you do a video on elevated green/tee boxes and how different descent angles change distance/spin control? Think all amateurs can learn from this? What do you think? Cheers
Very useful video, “fore right” is my most consistent shot 🤣 Keen to focus on this when driving ranges are open here again. Question I do have. I played golf very casually in high school, 12yrs later I’m trying to get back into it. When do you think is best to get lessons? Straight away or should I play a bit first?
I'd Also like to know. im in the exact same boat. tried golf 12 years ago didn't really like it because I'm bad at it. took it back up and now see myself not bad at it. I've had a couple of birdies and a few pars in 8 games that I've played. but I've also had holes that I've lost 3 balls at due to a horrible slice. I started to overcome it when I last played a course and had a great time, but I went to the driving range on Sunday and my slice was worse than its ever been with my driver and it seems like my irons are pulling to the left going nowhere near where I aimed. but before my iron game was pretty good. it has totally knocked my confidence.
Also how would you address your ball with distance as I was told I was to far away with my irons moved closer and this helped would this work the same for my driver or?
Some days my driver is terrible but my short game and irons save me. Then the next day driver and long irons awesome but I can’t chip or putt. If I could ever get the 2 to work at the same time I could play off scratch.
I’m the opposite. Need to work on loading the right side more (I’m a lefty) and having a more consistent divot in front of the ball. But this is still super helpful!
I have the same problem as you with my driver but it's way worse! Pulls and hooks all day but never straight, for some reason the 3 wood is a little better but also usually a pull or a hook. I've had the odd day with my 3 wood where I hit every fairway and bomb it but struggling lately and I really want to figure out my driver instead of only hitting 3 wood
Thanks James, I was working on irons yesterday (coping with early extension) and hit my driver a bit rubbish playing 9 holes later on (irons fab). Now I know why! Do you know an easy fix for early extension that isn’t ‘get a proper swing’?
This is 100% me. My best rounds are ware I leave my driver in the bag and only use my 4iron. Luckily I'm pretty long and average around 250-270 with my 4iron.
I tend to hit the odd fore right with driver, a lot of fore left on my 3 wood and hybrid and straight(ish) with my irons.... apart from give up, what can I do? Already have a Strong grip on driver, weaker grip on woods and neutral on irons
Well, this is exactly my problem. I hit my irons quite well but the driver distance just isn't there, even if the impact feels good and it goes dead straight. I only gain about 30 meters with the driver compared to my 5 iron. A launch monitor tells me I swing too steep but my body refuses to comply. So I'll try you tip on the range tomorrow but I'm not really optimistic to tell the truth. ;)
That's my biggest downfall. My issue is my club face is generally square but aoa is always slightly down or neutral. If i can actually hit up on it distance will be significantly increased
I literally shot a 40 on 9 2 days ago. I missed every fairway my best drive only went 180 lol. I hooked everything i even setup with a weak grip and the face open 20 degrees or so. I usually carry driver 270 with a fade so my game was off off but i pured irons and was hitting out of trees like i was tiger in 03 but you cant play hitting trees 75 yards
carolyn macmillan I’m the same I Wilshere I could hit every shot with my driver I play a links course were hitting straight off the tee is far more important that distance
James. I have this problem with my driver. I have a standard length shaft but im only 5 foot 9. Would you recommend me cutting the shaft an inch or so to help me shallow out my swing??
4:43 "better" = further into the trees...anyway, it took me a very long time playing golf before I made a proper attempt to hit the driver in a different way to the irons.
Hi James I do struggle at the moment with my iron's. I chip okay around the green, but when it comes to a full swings then the problems start. I don't feel anything like I should can you please help Alan Martin I'm a member of the parc golf club in South Wales. And it is a great club.
Was watching tiger woods vlog video he places trail foot slightly back to give him more room and bit bit turn witch can help produce a draw I've tried this instant ball flight change
I generally hit about 5 up with driver, about 3 or 4 down with irons. Prob is I sometimes sway back on iron shots and hit the dredded fat 😭😭😭 Driver prob usually is a left path with open face 😭😭😭
well for me my driver is a godsend, and i cant touch my irons unless its a very good day, i have issues with chunking it pretty bad, then getting nervous and topping it 5 yards. hybrids come to save the day on those bad iron days
My problem with driver I catch it low on the face and my miss is a block cut. Believe me much more frustrating then fore left!😂😂😂. My normal shot is 5-10yd draw.
I had high hopes for this video since I play well with my irons but can't hit driver to save my life. I know all the theory - ball forward in stance, sternum tilted backwards, upward trajectory, low point before ball, etc. etc., but can't hit the damn thing with driver still.
I can hit my 9 iron 150 and I strike my irons really well but I can barely hit my driver 210 to 220. WTF. It's driving me mental. Like I hit driver out the middle 90% of the time. Golf Golf. Ahhhhhhh
Unfortunately, I have the opposite problem, I hit my Driver really well (not bombs but straight), but my Iron play lets me down. Mainly because I have a shallow AOA even with my Irons and I have a tendency to have the ball too far forward at address so that I never take a divot! In fact, I always look on with envy when someone takes a nice thin divot, a bit like when one of your mates turns up with a stunner (who evidently has a thing for ugly blokes)!
I hit a huge banana slice with my driver so hopefully going to give this a try with moving my body back I've been told so many different things with grip and swing speed and none of them have helped
James i don't think its ever mentioned enough, considering you do daily videos... but your outfit coordination is always absolutely on point mate.
I don’t know you Steve... but I like you! 😂🤘🏼
Take your tounge out of his arse Tommy, dogs do that! You're not a dog are you? 😂 😂 😂 (Quote from Snatch)
@@jaybyrne4562 do you know what nemesis means??
Steve Pearce think someone else at home gives him advice mate...
Aqeed1 😂😂😂
Ahhh, that'll explain my out the middle but right and short drives. Off to practice that now, thanks James 😊
Those 1st 2 shots are a perfect representation of my game - 2 handicapper struggle carrying driver past 250 yards with a swing speed of 112.
Well I'm playing tomorrow and I was gonna leave my driver in the bag coz it causes me nothing but grief. Will try youre tips see how I get on. Cheers for tips james.
🤘🏼🔥
@gilroy none will give that a wee try too bud anything to try to get it going. Irons are grand just big stick isn't my friend.
Cracking video and I’m definitely one who hits the irons well and struggles with the driver so thank you 👏👏 for the video
Great video
When my irons are working my woods go left
When my woods are working my irons go right
So I game up to a 2iron for when my irons work and 5wood and 22hybrid for when the woods work
Some putting drills how to read a break and such. Putting is my strong part of my game but I’m always trying to improve my putting
Thanks for the instructional vid James! Keep up the course vlogs too mate. Love to see you with all the boys (and girls) every day!
Would really like to see front on view of the 2 different set up positions as i cant quite see it from this angle!
This is me! I am considering to tee the ball higher, currently teeing it with halve the ball above the face. I hardly ever hit the ground but ball either go straight left or push fade/slice. Irons go straight or little draw.
This is me. I am very consistent with my irons have a great smooth swing but can not hit my driver worth a D$&m..
You’re probably to steep on your backswing
Thanks, i have been struggling with this for a while
Love the video James. I struggle with fairway wood and hybrids. I either hit it heavy or thin
my main issue is alignment on the course, I can hit the right length on a regular basis but struggle with line, thats what I would like a video on !

I'm the same
I fitted myself and built a #2 & #3 hybrid to my specs. Crazy long and straight every time I pull it out of the bag. For the last year, the driver and 3 wood are just bad memories that aren't anywhere near my golf bag anymore.
Thank you James! I feel like you made this video just for me!
I have the hardest time hitting a 3 wood. Great stuff as always
I would love a best of long iron tips through the years of golf and which work for you. If I find a good hybrid the 5 irons new address is in the garage if I don't get this sorted out.
I've really enjoyed the short game Saturday videos especially the one's about being in the bunkers
My favorite club in my bag is the Driver. I'm a good ball striker from 6 iron down to wedges.
I tend to struggle with my long irons(4,5). Sometimes I strike it pure, sometimes I struggle. I'm using titleist CB irons.

Great video James as always loving the T-shirt and shorts combo very smart 👍🏌️♂️💥🔥

This video Is my golf life great video and great topic
Great tip James.more please, how about escaping pot bunkers, like the one on 16 at Woolley 🤔😄😎
I kind of have the opposite problem. Normally hit about 10 or more Fairways off the tee, but then miss my green in regulation. Probably the main reason why I am a 8 handicapper and can't get to scratch.
Hi James would love to see a video to help with green reading 👍
Very helpful and informative 👏🏻🏌️♂️😊

As a lefty, I'm hitting my 9i, and wedges ( PW, GW, SW) right of the flag. Perhaps a video on how to correct the ball flight?
I’m a decent player with my irons but can’t hit my driver for s##t. More info on slicing the driver please pal.
Cheers.
I have the opposite problem. I hit my driver great and my irons fair. Irons tend to go left. Some good info!

Hi have you seen that autoflex driver shaft and if so can you review it
cheers James im off to the range!
Great video... could you possibly re-approach this with camera angles front on to your body though perhaps as part of another video.
James why does that for left happen can you do a video on that because that's what I'm struggling with and its killing me
That's my biggest downfall. My issue is my club face is generally square but aoa is always slightly down or neutral. If i can actually hit up on it distance will be significantly increased
What do u work on when ur over drawing the ball
I literally shot a 40 on 9 2 days ago. I missed every fairway my best drive only went 180 lol. I hooked everything i even setup with a weak grip and the face open 20 degrees or so. I usually carry driver 270 with a fade so my game was off off but i pured irons and was hitting out of trees like i was tiger in 03 but you cant play hitting trees 75 yards
Loving the new logo James, very Dustin Johnson
James,
What model/version Flightscope do you use? Have you had it misread shots especially with high ball speed players on driver? (170mph +)
right now its the exact opposite. crushing the drive straight down the pipe 315+, pulling all my irons left about 30yrds...
I'm the opposite!
Drive well, but lousy with irons..lol
carolyn macmillan I’m the same I Wilshere I could hit every shot with my driver I play a links course were hitting straight off the tee is far more important that distance
Me too. I've a complete mental block with irons. Have now invested in Cobra T rail hybrid irons and love them. The head worms have gone.
Peter Molyneux very interesting just watching a few videos on them thanks
James. I have this problem with my driver. I have a standard length shaft but im only 5 foot 9. Would you recommend me cutting the shaft an inch or so to help me shallow out my swing??
Great video James this video is so me sometimes 😂 👍
I could be wrong James but I believe there are loads of pros who hit down by a degree or two on the driver...Tiger and Koepka to name a few..
Absolutely buddy. Very talented players. Generally this tip works for most golfers
4:43 "better" = further into the trees...anyway, it took me a very long time playing golf before I made a proper attempt to hit the driver in a different way to the irons.
Like the new LOGO and merch. Thanks for the videos!
Hi James I do struggle at the moment with my iron's. I chip okay around the green, but when it comes to a full swings then the problems start.
I don't feel anything like I should can you please help Alan Martin I'm a member of the parc golf club in South Wales. And it is a great club.
Question!
I play Cack handed 🙈 will the ball position be different for me ?
Was watching tiger woods vlog video he places trail foot slightly back to give him more room and bit bit turn witch can help produce a draw I've tried this instant ball flight change
Mizunos benched for TM irons now?
I feel personally attacked😂
Nice James
I struggle with hitting greens in regulation, mostly it is because the tee ball is not in the fairway
I generally hit about 5 up with driver, about 3 or 4 down with irons. Prob is I sometimes sway back on iron shots and hit the dredded fat 😭😭😭
Driver prob usually is a left path with open face 😭😭😭
I like your video because u speak fast every time unlike others
well for me my driver is a godsend, and i cant touch my irons unless its a very good day, i have issues with chunking it pretty bad, then getting nervous and topping it 5 yards. hybrids come to save the day on those bad iron days
My problem with driver I catch it low on the face and my miss is a block cut. Believe me much more frustrating then fore left!😂😂😂. My normal shot is 5-10yd draw.
Cheers for that, now to translate it to my swing......hmmmmm
Cheers James, opposite for me, hit driver well, not irons
I had high hopes for this video since I play well with my irons but can't hit driver to save my life. I know all the theory - ball forward in stance, sternum tilted backwards, upward trajectory, low point before ball, etc. etc., but can't hit the damn thing with driver still.
what is your typical ball flight with driver on misshit?
Rocking the P770's? Have made it in the bag?
Picking the correct ball if no ball fitting available 👍
already flexing the 770's I see very solid choice
The switches🤣
I'm the total opposite but it still helps thanks James
Tips on how to stop chicken wing in the golf swing
Short irons please!
My issue is I launch driver at 15 degrees and spin it at 3200
3 wood off the tee. I struggle with this shot. Thanks
Why is it I drive my putter 250 but my driver 100?
I'm the other way around, I hit driver quite good but my irons are garbage.
I can hit my 9 iron 150 and I strike my irons really well but I can barely hit my driver 210 to 220. WTF. It's driving me mental. Like I hit driver out the middle 90% of the time. Golf Golf. Ahhhhhhh
I hit my driver amazing but struggle with my irons, should I do the opposite of what you say in the video then?😂
Unfortunately, I have the opposite problem, I hit my Driver really well (not bombs but straight), but my Iron play lets me down.
Story of my life, that’s why the driver has been ditched.
I will wait for the follow up video mate. Why you hit your driver GREAT but your irons terrible! 😣😣
I hit a huge banana slice with my driver so hopefully going to give this a try with moving my body back I've been told so many different things with grip and swing speed and none of them have helped
I can hit my irons really well, and my driver really well. But my 3w and 2h are utterly utterly terrible. THERE IS NO HOPE FOR ME.
Where’s the Tiger video m8? Great content though geez! 🤓
What about 60% of drivers and long irons are good, but you cant hit a green to save your life. Example sand wedge travels 100 to 130 yards.
Well,if If I wasn’t confused before,I definitely am now.
this is me. i just hit 3 iron off the tee. dont even touch the driver
