Honestly, having the takes in there really sold the desperation in the creeping and overwhelming apathy that’s around the game, even with people who have been a part of it for years now such as you and more regular players like myself. It’s real and it’s not going away like before. I know it wasn’t intentional, as why the edit is here, but you know… I got it, whether I read into that overlook a bit more than what it really was or not. Not to be sappy, but I started playing D1 at launch and found your channel and eventually the rest of the crew as well. Missed out on Rise of Iron all the way till late Forsaken because I was gearing up to try and be a Paralympic professional athlete/get accolades and good grades to go to a good college, but I kept watching your stuff regardless of whatever was going on and I still will keep watching now. The only way I’m really staying with the game now is that my now wife wanted to start playing it with me, and I began to enjoy it again with her. You do you; I found your second (hidden) project out of recommendations after being subbed to you for years. Whatever you and the crew decide to do, you’ll have plenty of us behind ya
I just thought you were slow clapping. True Video Datto I think Bungie just needs to do more procedural generation in dungeon, strikes, and activites. I am most engaged when I don't know what is coming. So if maps would pick from different enemy spawns, objectives and even change it up mid mission I think that would help with the same old same old feel.
man, I've been watching you since before destiny came out in 2014 which was middle school for me. I really hope to see your content to continue through my life as you are easily my favorite youtuber ever, as cringe as that sounds since I'm now 23. You've helped me out mentally with your content through the past decade and I hope you find success later, whatever I may take you.
22 now homie, and right there with you. It’s been such a journey. Datto is easily one of my favorite UA-camrs and one of my favorites figures in the community. He means a lot to a lot of people, and I truly just want to see him succeed. He’s got to
It's not cringe to have some of a sentimental, youthful, and nostaligic side to you and anyone who tells you differently is dead wrong. Too many become lame by the time they turn into adults because "I'm an adult, I can only like adult things and do adult things - drink, work, politics, worrying about inflation, can only enjoy adult humor, etc" and become the most stale, bitter, and boring people out there. Hold on to some of that youth in your soul and never lose it :) It's fine for a game to be special to you and for content creators to be a comforting place.
😂😂 enjoying to shit on Destiny2 meanwhile we Love the Game! its a fantastic Game with unlimited potential! But they Ruined it by Turning the game into Casual paradise! Endgame Dead...Rewards doesnt matter,,,its Mid Casual as best! I remember Destiny was the most hardcore Game ever...joe blackburn and Their DEi really did 💩 on the game! a Common meme says : the Only thing can kill Destiny is Bungie!
I've seen that sort of thing in videos from other UA-camrs (usually in service of speed) but here I kind of thought it was a stylistic choice tbh, leaving in part of the usually excised production to illustrate how burnt out he's feeling right now.
Hearing that you’re having to delay your sabbatical to 2025 hit me way harder than I had anticipated. I’ve been a long time viewer since crota challenge modes with math class. You have been a huge part of my gaming enjoyment and I couldn’t imagine being as invested in this game had it not been for you. You deserve a rest good sir. Please don’t push yourself to the breaking point on our account. Better to have you take a step back and come back reinvigorated than run yourself off a cliff trying to keep up. I can’t speak for everyone but I can certainly say I’d be ready to welcome you as if you’d never left.
Bruh just take a break if you need, people know your Mr Destiny we’ll be here wether you are not I personally watch old videos or play other games when there’s no content find entertainment or relaxation where you can my man 👍✌️👌
For those out of the loop of what Datto mentioned by "New stuff coming", here's a list: January: End of the exotic mission February: Moments of Triumphs and "wishes" which are like story content missions but smaller apparently. March: Guardian Games April-May: PvP map pack and Into the light, something like the 30th Anniversary but on a smaller scale. June: TFS Releases
I know youtube in 2024 is an entirely different beast from 2014, and I know Destiny falling off is a terrifying outlook for you no matter what, but some of my all time favorite videos from you are the custom raid challenges in D1 years 1 and 2. "I left the guns on the ship" will always make me smile, and I hope you can keep in mind that even when destiny was giving you almost nothing to work with, you still made amazing content. Your success - while sometimes proportional to - will never be fully dependent on destiny's success.
I think a big difference now though is that we can't forgive the game now. Back then, the sin was a lack of consistent content, but the expansion itself was banger. As a result, we kind of wanted to love and engage with the game. Nowadays, it can feel like we have too much destiny slop to wade through, and we don't necessarily want even more destiny content in our lives.
A sad reality of games is always the hype/new factor. When a new game comes out no matter what it is it usually brings people in and they stick with it forming a community. I've seen tons of games from mobile games to triple A where you get people in and there's a lot of "no hit boss kills" "cleared this content never using supers/ultimates" etc. As games evolve and content/powercreep sets in it can be harder to define what rules equate to skill. When games launch and they are fresh and exciting there is also usually more easily understood mechanics that people can attempt to master. I have a lot of nostalgia for Destiny and a few other games like old Halo. I know it's gloomy for Datto and it's one of the reasons I resent American capitalism that we all need to toil so hard just to live so we can't make the things we want to make. End rant/
“The Destiny spell on me is kind of breaking” hit a bit more heavy-handed than I expected. I broke my years-long streak with Elden Ring… and then Cyberpunk, and then Dead Space, and then Baldur’s Gate… I love this franchise so deeply. I’ve sunk thousands of hours into it and it’s amounted to a few hours a week as of late. It hurts, but I’ll be damned if I don’t see it through… after that? Who knows? I’m tired of coming back over and over again… Fatigue is real. Take care of yourselves, and experience other things, y’all deserve it, the community deserves it.
Exactly the same for me, maybe get on destiny for like and hour or two, or help a friend with a quick dungeon than back to any other game. On my second playthrough for baldur’s gate and that’s helping time fly by
I really feel that the game fell of hard after the mars expansion in D2. Loved all of D1, maybe it was just fatigue but those high level of expansions never really returned once bungie took over. I still enjoy the People such as Datto catch up with the story by watching instead of playing. The game just feels stale since forsaken imo.
I long for consolidation. I can’t help but think of Crota’s End and House of Wolves when Datto talks about “fewer, larger setpieces”. The issue is Destiny is massive, and it is two games; its nigh impossible to piece together a congruent story - callbacks to the Ishtar Collective in Lightfall fall on deaf ears, and narratives can’t be followed when you miss out on one season and suddenly Saladin becomes Valus Forge, the Ahamkara return, or Osiris making no note upon his Prophecies as they happen- “Two siblings cleaved by time and space” . So much of Destiny insists on its own lore, that is now either not available, or available only on last-gen consoles nearly a decade old. Even if there was no Comet/End of Year release, its not like people aren’t dying for a temporary ease on the content after The Final Shape. Hopefully the talent that went into designing so much of the original and sunset campaigns can be consolidated by a group of writers who now finally know where they are headed, not to some intangible darkness, and can translate as much over into the new engine as possible during perhaps a ‘gap year’, supporting themselves through vEpisodes, to form one fully fledged true and strong narrative, before forging onwards into whatever comes after the final shape.
I've personally made the decision to hold off on buying the Final Shape until WELL after it launches, and then likely playing the campaign only and dipping on Destiny forever. After 3500+ hours of this game, I just can't do it anymore. I jumped back in this season because it was going to be a long one, and I could take it easy. I came in about 3 weeks late and I'm already feeling burnt. It shouldn't be this way folks. I should feel fresh enough to play again, but I don't.
I'm in the same boat as you, I played the dungeon with friends (probably the worst dungeon I might add, we did every encounters "mechanic" without knowing we did the mechanic) and that was it, I already felt burnt out after that.
Tbh that’s just you, you’ve played so much that no matter what the content will never suffice. I’m in the same boat but I guarantee there’s probably 90% of the player base that are more causal and don’t have everything in the game
@@bobisacoolguy3631you thought it was the worst dungeon? Vast majority of the community thinks its the best, can you elaborate while you don’t like it?
@@arjunramesh1681honestly it’s mid at very best, it’s dead easy and stale within the 3rd run, just like everything in this game, if the shop didn’t sell shaders for bright dust I would never log back in, it’s a new piece of content that already feels old, it’s the classic case of “oh that was a cool dungeon” and then you run it again and you know exactly what to do and it becomes something completely mechanical where you’re almost on auto pilot not paying attention to anything but the task at hand, then you’re off the your next encounter without paying attention to enemies or scenery along your way because once you’ve seen it, you’ve seen it, there’s no need to stand around in awe, every dungeon or piece of content becomes this repetitive cycle of not actually caring about the activity but just doing it for garbage loot you’ll inevitably dismantle, didn’t mean for this to be so long but yeh
@@arjunramesh1681 It's personally the worst for me, for the same reason that Vow is the wors raid for me. The enemies. Taken and ESPECIALLY the Scorn are my most hated enemy factions. I hate fighting against them. I hate their stupid glitchy movements or turning into mist. I played through the new dungeion once, enough to say i did it, and reach Guardian rank 10. The atmosphere and vibe of the Dungeon is cool. Would like it a lot more if it was actually the Fallen House of Kings. I also hate the mechanics of the dungeon. Oh go stand in that lantern, but wait there's taken goo everywhere that's going to siphon off your health. Oh you have this debuff that you have to transfer or you die, but haha you punched the wrong one and it didn't transfer, or haha you punched him and he immediately melee'd you back so now you have the debuff again and die to it.
I really hope you can find success in something else soon Datto. I’ve seen this video a thousand times before. I used to be hooked on Destiny but haven’t played for years now and it sounds like I haven’t missed anything. Good luck man.
I won’t forget that day I randomly met you in person at PAX with Mr Fruit, Datto. Both of you were very kind. As a sub and fellow guardian I hope you’re doing good brotha despite recent events with bungie and the community. I’m staying optimistic for final shape. Don’t get burned out man just take a break and come back when you’re ready. I’ve been here since 2014 like many others on this journey for 9 years. Whatever comes next guardians in the final shape let’s face it together
My biggest thing is I’m expecting episodes to be more expensive than seasons, there’s no way they stay the same price, especially since 1 episode is included in final shape, and with there only being 2 more instead of the regular 4 for seasons they’re missing out on a quarter of their seasonal revenue, aside from that I’m really hoping our guardian has more of a central role in the stories going forward, it honestly kinda doesn’t feel great to play the seasonal activity then watch other people talk about what’s going to happen in the grand scheme of things, it would’ve been so much better to have done a live event like seraph this season where like the week before final shape comes out, our guardian goes through the portal then final shape comes out
Im the opposite. I fully expect episodes to have equal or less content than seasons now. For a few reasons. Bungie just lost a good chunk of their staff. Its already a reduction on content cycles, and they are coming after the game's supposed finale.
The already confirmed episodes are 15 USD dollars each instead of 12 USD which imo is better for 2 reasons 1. It's cheaper over a full year, 45 USD instead of 48 2. You could only buy packs of silver in 1k and 1.5k so you couldn't buy the exact amount needed for a season, now you'll be able to again
@@uncoveredkhan09gaming38 Its insane people already forgot they raised season prices to that level less than a year ago just to get more money from people, and now call a second raise of prices a positive because it matches in game currency purchases which they have full control over and change change on a whim.
this is what the story telling is missing witchqueen and lightfall campaign was getting there but playing these seasonal activities it always feels like our guardians are spectators and not really part of the world maybe dialogue options would help like other mmos
@@space5785 I like the story beats we have gotten, but yeah, it would be nice if instead of crow going to the meeting with zavala during chosen it was us, I will say it was nice that we were there during season of the witch when savathun got resurrected, here’s hoping that in episodes story beats like caitals forces eventually turn on us that we can be there on the frontlines
As a solo player, Fireteam Finder has been a game changer. Previously, Matchmade content were too easy for my power level while finding fireteam to play harder content was a pain in the a** (especially as French, even if I speak quite good English, people are just jerks). My biggest complaints are: - Nightfall should be a playlist (small one sure, but 1 map per week is too few to make it fun to play a lot for a casual player). - With Titan reappearing in S21 I honestly thought we would get the full planet back (including one of my favourite Strike). - Gambit... what to say more than just "do something, update it or shelf it but do something".
Just my anecdote, but I’m coming back to the game for season of the wish and final shape after not playing since shadowkeep. It’s been great running through so much content I missed, and I can’t wait to see what they have in store for us.
I mainly want TFS' story/conclusion to be good & Bungie to do the Witness justice, as someone who's been following the story the past decade & mainly cares about that. & after the conflict with the Witness is resolved idk if I'll be interested as much, just gotta wait & see
I think destiny needs to add the ability to earn cosmetics that we actually want via the pinnacle content in the game like the ultimate raids in FFXIV or mythic raids in WoW
Wild to think that when I started watching you I was 11 and needed help figuring out how to do the pocket infinity bounty. I’m 21 now. pretty wild to think I’ve now watched the same UA-camr for 10 years throughout all my adolescent years. Love you Datto and loving the new channel
I would love if GM Nightfalls took the WoW Mythic Plus Dungeon system where you climb more and more difficult versions to get better rewards but Bungie would have to completely revamp how rewards and power levels work for that to work.
Stuff like that is pointless. You're either gonna run the hardest one for the best rewards or you're gonna run whatever difficulty gives the best reward for the least amount of effort. It's a waste of resources.
@@oxsila having played a fair amount of WoW years ago: mythic+ scales infinitely, with the only real cap being the mathematical limits of what damage the players can put out and endure (because WoW is an RPG, so you can end up in situations where beating XYZ thing is impossible because your level is too low or your gear is too weak). There is no "hardest one," and in fact a fair amount of content is/was made based on trying to set new records for the most difficult successful run of mythic+ dungeons. The closest Destiny translation of the concept I can think of would look like this: rather than having one set GM you run to completion like a regular strike, finishing a GM loads you into another randomly chosen GM with a slightly (but cumulatively) tougher light level cap, with the rewards increasing based on how tough said light level cap is, and with wipes knocking you back down to a less severe light level cap. Right now the Coil is the closest thing Destiny has to that, but you'd need to remove the hard cap of four runs and also remove Riven/glass shards. Also, you can leave between runs and come back without losing progress.
We had something like that it was called Haunted Forest and it didn't take long until people were bored of it. Only now that it's vaulted are people saying they miss it. A lot of casuals already complain about A platinum coil run taking too long lol@@life-destiny1196
Or maybe an actual endgame activity? Maybe a planet that’s specifically made for endgame so you need to be fully kitted out and has a bunch of new endgame activities and stuff to chase. I don’t play destiny anymore since warframe cross save released but destiny needs to stop with just slapping grandmasters difficulty on everything n be like “ok guys here’s your endgame”. It’s incredibly repetitive and boring.
Your state of mind for playing the game is pretty much mine. Do the seasonal story and anything that's time gated...and that's it. I've already got all the season patterns, am happy with the armor I've got, and have a handful of the raid titles that I wanted. I still come back because the shoot gun, see explosion is still unrivaled for me, but nowadays, I play other games. 😊
I havent spoken to or know of anyone who plans to keep playing post Final Shape... everyone is just waiting for that conclusion to the Light/Dark saga. Whatever ends up happening here, I hope u find success in your next chapter. Ill continue to watch regardless. Cheers
Improving the free to play content should be a big focus because in the end when seasons end, it'll be one of the big things left. Big changes could be a over hall to gambit, all strikes being re added to the game, then a crucible update(which we kinda have coming)
I think if the game wants to feel fresh and attract new players it would be interesting to have some other things to work towards or ways to interact with the game and other players. Like maybe some player housing on our ships or sparrow racing or just other fun activities that make the permanent state of the game feel more varied and alive. Because at the moment it all just feels pretty similar after being the same overall format for years. What exists right now is very good as a focused experience, but that’s not great at attracting new players
I agree. And I think there’s definitely people that do the actual work at bungie that know this and would implement some of this. But if it’s not profitable leadership won’t push for it. And then there’s when even the rank and file devs get burnt out…
Sparrow racing was fun for sure. In D1, it may have been annoying (hard to remember) but having to farm resources for upgrades forced us to patrol and go to different planets. I honestly dont remember the last time i patroled in D2. I dont even do it to get the weekly achievemet because i dont need dust. Roaming around patrolling and getting into random public events was fun. For me at least.
Here’s some stuff I would love to see and I think would actually entice me to play more of the game again - New enemy races - A new class entirely - A new tier of weapons/gear (power creep doe) - Legend/master strike playlist - Something akin to the Coil but with significantly more variety (like a lot more variety) - A competitive PvE mode of some sort (Gambit clearly ain’t it) - Something akin to Path of Exiles mapping system w/ randomly generated areas, scaling difficulty and bosses to progress towards. Bonus points if I could use my constantly maxed out currencies to modify that reward structure & gameplay loop I understand a lot of this stuff is probably unrealistic but post Final shape if the game wants to survive they need to try SOMETHING interesting. Coil is okay but it’s just that, okay. Try a tower defense mode, try a season with base building, try a season where crafting gets some wild options like the ‘craftening’. Raids/dungeons and the occasional GMs are cool but the game is so stagnant and seems to move at an absolutely glacial pace. I guess it kinda worked cause they got 10 years out of it but the ship is clearly going down and ol captain Blackburn isn’t gonna be able to save it this time. Either go maintenance mode and let the ship sink while you pursue something people at Bungie are actually passionate about or take some god damn risks, please.
What are your thoughts for episodes being similar to Poe’s dlcs? One thing I like about Poe is even when I take a break n have no idea what’s happening in the new league I can interact with the mechanic at the very beginning and learn from there n it’ll eventually scale up. I thought for destiny it would be cool after we defeat the witness one of the consequences is something like corruption n light and dark is corrupting the land and the enemies as well so right now we have gms so it would be corrupt as a added tier and the enemies are augmented with all light or dark powers the map is changed visually and a mechanic like maybe after killing a certain amount of dark enemies they drop a orb that completely augments your dark powers making them do crazy stuff for a limited amount of time same with light, and maybe after getting enough light or dark points there’s a vendor where you can make a light or dark orb and completely augment and upgrade light or dark abilities.
i really find myself struggling to stay engaged with the game and its so sad because i love destiny and i want to be hooked i really do, but its fading :(
That thing they said at the very beginning...about 'the game playing out over the course of 10 years', softly echoes in my mind still after all this time, and i can't believe it's been that long, it feels unreal. It literally feels like yesterday that i was exploring the Cosmodrome for the first time, listening to Avicci and other popular hits back then, having a blast during summer, raiding with people i met along the way...then i closed my eyes and woke up now, 10 years into the future, that's how fast it all felt like. Every year that passes feels faster, but I'm glad i get to remember this small stretch of time where it all happened. I still remember vividly when 2025 felt so far away but now it's only a year away. If i could go back and do it all again, i would, if only to feel that things slowed down a little. Anyway, i hope whatever comes next will be remembered fondly 10 years from now...
One thing I’ve felt but haven’t really heard from the community was to update the enemies. It felt as time went on that we got stronger and they stayed the same, with only power level to match. I’ve always thought that Bungie should try to add more enemy abilities to the game to make it more strategic and bring value back to some of them, like give centurions a rally buff where enemies around them do more damage and have more health sort of deal. Another thing would be to give value back to random rolls. Weapon crafting is fun but ultimately it took away the value of random rolled weapons which was sort of the goal back in d1. I would give some weapons specific, powerful perks and make them exclusive to random rolls. Finally, I think Bungie has been too sparing on the variety of fragments and aspects because the more the better, make it so that instead of one or two builds you could choose between 10 for a subclass, and go for the one that suited your play style
Like other people I've been with your channel for a loooong time around 2015ish Era, and seeing your content improve and evolve has been very exciting to see. No matter what happens next in D2 im here for it and ill always come to a datto video no matter the direction you go in my friend.
I felt that Season of the Wish was a surprising improvement on reinvigorating interest for me. Previous season was a drag and this season I've played way more than I expected.
@@Eptzol the previous guy said the last season was a drag. Everyone will burn themselves out and we still have 5 months left due to Bungie not sticking to the plan. We should be looking forward to TFS next month, but no, we have plenty of Starcross, recycled Guardian Games and vaulted content to look forward to. That's the drag.
@@DB_________ i’m not going to be butt hurt they delayed the final shape for quality assurance reasons, won’t hold that against the Season of the Witch. Doesn’t make it a bad season, just a really long one. I will be taking a break at some point obviously
The just need to add the Cards thing to more activities like Strikes, Dares and Wellspring. Also it would be cool if Seals give some sort of buff to the gameplay
This video is why you're my favorite D2 youtuber Datto. My perspectives almost fully align with yours when it comes to discussions revolving around this game.
Datto, i was 21 when i stumbled upon your content, 31 years old now and still watching and hoping to see more of your content in the future, easily in my top 5 content creators 🙏🏼
I'm confident this will get lost in the sea of comments, but the main reason I dropped as a 4,000 hour plus player was Lightfall's push to kill the casual side of play. They didn't make the game harder, they just removed the bottom half of the difficulty curve for those who enjoyed the game that way. I loved running the second tier of nightfalls before they changed the level aspect. I just want a comfy casual game and they've decided that making the game less accessible is better. I don't grasp it.
All i really want from destiny 2 right now is everything to just settle down. That is to say, i wish bungie's side games they have been working on get released and dont tarnish the name of the company (any further), and i want these episodes and Final Shape to wrap up so bungie can hopefully begin to countersteer this game into a direction that is sustainable and healthy for the longevity of this game for new and old players after these 3 listed episodes end. I know Final shape and the 3 episodes afterwards wont bring me personally back to the game, but whatever is after the episodes i am hoping will. Am excited to see your new channel take off. Sure destiny brought me to your channel, but YOU kept me here with your charismatic commentary and rowdy group of friends, and I cant wait for you to become a youtuber, notbound by destiny.
Datto, I don't know if you're interested in doing this again, but I really liked your coaching on a legend lost sector video. If you did more coaching content, I would watch every bit of it! It would help us folks who haven't been playing forever. Much love sir.
I also like coaching videos, but I think a lot of them don't perform as well as they could (speaking generally here, not specifically about Datto or even D2). Watching a player fail to clear a lost sector for ten minutes of ingame time plus X minutes of paused commentary, with a lot of information and mistakes getting repeated, makes for a video that probably overstays its welcome. Condensing the content into correcting individual mistakes rather than critiquing entire runs of activities could help make those things more digestible.
You unironically have been one of my long standing favorite creators of all time on UA-cam, it’s the typa love where I havent played destiny 2 seriously in 2 years and I still watch cuz YOU are a very funny, kind, and genuine person, I don’t watch any other destiny UA-camrs then jez but both of u I still watch cuz ur very entertaining people and you make some of the best content I have ever seen on here, like the type of stuff I revisit a few times every year to relive the memories when I watched the vid for the first time, whatever u decide to do in the future whether it’s continuing with Destiny or switching the main goal to another game you have a good amount of us when you switch
It's kind of sad hearing Datto talk about Destiny tbh. Idk it's like an actor in your favorite show talking about never wanting to reprise that role again. Happy for Datto though to be trying new things he's passionate about
I been on and off since pre ordering Vanilla Destiny. For me I leave when I get fatigued from this game, and always come back. I recently came back and I'm having a great time. I feel bad for those who have stayed the whole time and keep grinding away @ the same content. The key to Destiny has always been play until its boring and go play some new Triple A games and return. Don't make it a chore. Content creation in a gray area and its the bread and butter money maker so thats understandable.
No reason to limit that concept to AAA games. Many indie games are out there providing experiences that AAA devs simply aren't interested in, and doing a stellar job of it, too. Some favorites of mine you may have heard of: Sea of Stars, The Messenger, Hollow Knight, Celeste, Inscryption, Tunic, Neon White, Rivals of Aether (probably wait for Rivals 2 tbh), Metal: Hellsinger, and VVVVVV. I'll also throw in Hades, even though I haven't played it yet, because I enjoyed two of Supergiant's previous titles (Transistor and Bastion) and Hades really put them on the map for a lot of people. Seriously, the number of games out there that don't get attention because they're not attached to the big name nickle-and-dime developers is criminal. I would also not describe Baldur's Gate 3 as indie, but that game is such an achievement on so many levels that I can't help but bring it up either. It puts every AAA game I've ever played to shame. One of the very few games that actually deserves the level of hype that big game releases get, made by people who actually care! And I'm the sort of person who gets outright contrarian when I feel like a game is being talked about too much (which has likely saved my wallet a fair bit in the long run).
one thing id love to see is a wave kinda mode where enemies keep spawning in waves with later waves having hard bosses, while fighting through the waves you get new weapons and abilites but if you die you lose everything except some currency to buy permanent upgrades you would start with a white weapon then get green, blue, purp and exotic abilites would be locked behind boss waves
You do you, Datto. I'm helping new lights I. Our year old clan. Also, my Mom is in hospice so I am taking time off to spend time with family. I can rell you're burnt out and some of your content reflects this attitude. Back off from playing until you can see with fresh eyes, or do what many of us are doing and help new lights. Seeing the game from their perspective helps the burnout.
I actually got so hyped when I heard Final Shape was getting delayed, not for the "It could turn out better" factor, but because I'm an OG D1 Beta player, and I'm just glad to have some free time before the game beckons me back. Fatigue is real, and getting 3 more months to chill will make me feel a lot more interested when the content comes back.
You do have a core audience of people that are here for you and not just for guides and Datto’s thoughts on things. I know you’ll find your footing post Final Shape.
Datto, I’ve been in and out of this channel for about 10 years now and I just want to thank you for the time you’ve put in to help hundreds of thousands of guardians, destiny wouldn’t be destiny without datto. Thank you for being a safe space and it’s always nice to know any time I wanna get back into destiny I got datto to get me on the right track. I’m excited for 2024, even as a pvp main I think bungie will go out with a bang (fingers crossed)
Hoping the best for you in your journey. You have been the only destiny youtuber who I will go to when I want to find something about Destiny. For the first part of the video, I think going with the cosmetic route is the way to go if you don't want to sunset stuff or make people re-farm the same loot. I'm not talking about a sparrow or a ship. I mean Armor transmog.
7:35 Some raid mods are game changing. Into the Light in broken in vow and unbral sharpening is good , anti oracle and anti pretorian is amazing, run for your life and will of light mods are a nice bonus you can get in kf, release recover, focused light and focused darkness give a big boost in survivability and damage. voltaic ammo collector and reley defender changes the way gos is played. But I mostly play trio/duo flawless master raids and solo raid encounters.
right, you don't remotely need raid mods to get the loot out of raids, so in a lot of players' eyes they don't exist. most D2 players are driven by loot, especially guns. as someone who regularly does lowman/solo raid content, you are a dramatic exception. it's the same argument people have about thunderlord DPS--it's technically enough for most if not all raid bosses and zero effort, so if you get the loot anyway, who cares? (deep down I hate this argument--even if you're comfortable using the most boring DPS strategy in the game for bare-minimum results, it's not even less effort, because you'll have to do more mechanics phases. But I'd rather people raid with a bad loadout than bully them out of raiding at all.) the kinds of players who need raid-specific mods to clear regular raids probably aren't aware they exist or don't own much of the armor/many of the mods.
Ever since Marathon was announced, im sure everyone has seen the writing on the wall of how it'll be the deathblow for Destiny going into maintenance mode.
How to fix weapon crafting Make it so certain roles are only available as drops. On top of that, have adept versions of those unique roles that have the adept versions of perks
If you're not going to be able to fit in a full sabbatical until next year, maybe you can break it up into a bunch of weeklong vacations? It might take some guesswork to schedule them at the right times, but it'd be better than nothing.
Don't think that'll work. The whole point is to finally not have to think about all the UA-cam stuff for a while. That's not happening if your head is already at "what am I gonna upload next week" despite being on vacation
It’s a 10 year old shit game. Of course content is going to “dry out”. Move on. You’re 10 years older now and haven’t got anywhere in life playing destiny.
as a person who used to play religiously and watch tons of your content, it breaks my heart to hear you sound like myself when i stepped away from the game after stasis was introduced and ruined pvp along with their decision to not refund or do anything about players like me who bought every dlc before last light and lost it all in the blink of an eye. i hope bungie leadership sees this video and considers doing something for this amazing community that is still here inspite of everything the've done to the game we loved or used to love. i just wish the best for you Datto as on the communities biggest content creators and hope that if worse comes to worse you can find a new community to help you thrive. Thank you for being a trouper all these years and i hope this game can be fixed so i can enjoy destiny again.
For armor my only idea is permanent set bonuses (as in after a season is over it still works) that come from specific sources that can give you a free armor mod. A crucible set giving fast ball for free, a strike specific armor set (complete shield brothers set) that gives solar weapon holster for free. Reserve raid and dungeon armor to have set bonuses such as strand surge x2 or unraveling rounds when woven mail is active or perks that let elements interact based on the set. I.e a spire of stars raid armor perk bonus of players with radiant deal scorch on the first hit of an unscorched target with a solar weapon when they’re already affected by void weaken.
The ad-read got me to like and favorite the video. That was fantastic. Edit: Good luck with your personal project! I watch your channel for you, and not strictly because of Destiny. Your Dream Team content has been my favorite of yours by far.
Whatever you do, I, we, will be with you. Cannot imagine my algorithm or feed without Datto. If they aren’t there? We’ll endure. You deserve rest, and happiness.
Been around since the beginning, I don’t really know what held me during all the other lows but this time…. Man it’s weird, took a forced break may until now for school stuff and now that I have time I want to want to get back in but every time I sit down and think about some stuff to chase I just cannot get myself to care, I don’t want to leave before the ending but I already canceled the preorder and have logged on twice for maybe 20 minutes since the season launched. I don’t want to stop caring but I can’t really explain how it feels anymore and I feel like that’s relatable in this community nowadays, you want to want things to be better but leadership ruined any hope of that ever happening so what’s the point of logging on.
I really miss when I used to log into Destiny, do some raids with the boys and shoot the breeze, then jump into Crucible, hit some snipes and go to bed. I haven't played Destiny for about 6 months at this point, and I don't see that changing any time soon. So long Destiny, and thanks for all the fish.
I really do believe the DCV and seasonal model have already killed Destiny’s longevity, it’s just currently on a crash course that will end with TFS. Good new player onboarding is not possible without the start of your story in the game, so old players are falling off at a way higher rate. From my experience, the general public just knows that Bungie ripped people’s purchased content away from them, and all the gear that players grinded got taken away only to be resold. No one has faith it won’t happen again, and with the continued garbage from the Starter Pack to Transmog’s monetization, Bungie give players no reason to trust them. The only possibility for things to become great, in my view, is if everything in the DCV came back. That’s very nearly impossible, which is what has me thinking this game has no hope for further longevity
Hey datto I had a dream last night that you opened a fried chicken sandwich restaurant and my brother and I were your first customers. Thanks for the sandwich, it was pretty good
My main problem with D2 is the corny and blatant FOMO business model. I'm tired of having to mark certain days on the calander just cause X weapon or Y raid ia in rotation then etc. It's just so stale
I was watching this on my smart TV and unironically paused it and searched through my yputube history to get here on my phone to comment only that I did, in fact, not only watched the whole ad read, but enjoyed it enough to comment here in a drunken stuper AND correct my own spelling errors. This is how all ads should be managed and you sir are great. Now im off to pass the eff oht cause codak
I’d like you to know dato I watched this on a plane and the wifi wasn’t good enough to skip the in video ad. So to those wondering, yes, some people do watch the ads
honestly the biggest problem for me is: 1. There is no loot to grind, i have everything i want crafted, random drops are almost always inferior and i don't need new guns anyway. 2. nothing to do with all these weapons that i have. In d1 i farmed the normal strike playlist to have small chances on strike specific loot (looking at you imago loop) and for some reason it just never got stale. It did help that the D1 strike playlist had the difficulty of normal nightfalls and weren't such a snoozefest. D2 nightfall grinding get stale after like, 3 runs? Since you're just doing the same nightfall for the whole week anyway. Same goes for the season activities, its boring to do that 24/7 there aint enough variety. Most cool armor sets and ships/sparrows are in the eververse store so there aint much to chase in terms of that. Honestly last season it felt like i was playing because i had nothing better to play. Now i'm just playing different games
The community would love it if every week we had a bounty that was once per account that would give us a harmonizer, but no give us 6 that will help with the 150 craftable weapons.
would be cool to see you do some general commentary stuff a la moist critikal/pyro live. i really respect your opinion as a content creator and have always loved how frank youve been with your audience. always gonna support your work even if its not destiny forever. love ya datto
1. No way to target farm specific exotics. Only option for the playerbase are lost sectors on the correct day that you may or may not have to run for hours because everything is rng. 1a. You could spend an entire server day until reset farming in a lost sector only to come out of that grind with nothing, one bad roll of the exotic, or something adjacent to the word "decent". 2. No incentive to farm Master raids outside of achievements, lmao. 2b. Adept loot obtained from Master raids are meaningless in the meta. 3. Xur has sold bad rolls, of mid or bad exotics/gear, for the past 2 years. There is no reason to go and see him. It is a waste of time and effort. 4. The best way, currently, to farm artifice armor is through dungeons. That's a problem. 5. The player is not given the opportunity to use materials to increase the stats on armor. 6. Most raid exotics are tied to rng and nothing but rng. That is a dumpster-fire tier design choice made by people looking at a spreadsheet whose interest in "player engagement" doesn't extend past playtime. 7. The discrepancy of exotic armor and their effects when compared to the other choices from each class swings so wildly in both effectiveness and fun a person would be forgiven for mistaking that data for a jumping monkey from the amazon rainforest. 8. Focusing costs entirely too much regardless of the vendor or the item in question. The prices are egregious across the board, no exceptions. 9. Exotic focusing requiring a cipher is a joke so stale that makes even Activision mad they didn't think of something like that first. 10. If you aren't trying to boost your light level, there are absolutely no logical reasons or theoretical thought processes in existence that would be able to justify playing the strike playlist. 11. Gambit was dropped so hard and fast that it made deadbeat dad's grabbing milk and cigarettes from the store stop to take notes on how to leave behind your failures. 12. PvP is stale. They are working on it. The map pack coming needs to have more than 6 maps, 3 of them need to be large maps, we need a "Classic" node where you don't spawn with heavy or special and you have to fight over who gets to take the ammo from a crate. Bring back tanks and pikes on the large maps. 13. Bungie, you lost this battle of public opinion. Bring back SRL. 14. Mod energy on armor, especially exotic armor, needs to be increased to allow for more mods. 14b. Raid mods should require absolutely 0 (zero, cero, zilch, nada) energy. That is all for now.
Coil means I don’t have to run the ghosts story mission over and over for accendant alloys, problem is you can just buy loads of them from the tower now.
I think alot of us all have the same mindset and understand what's going to happen after TFS. Its had its time and thats okay. I hope you know we will still watch you even if your not doing destiny content anymore.
Glad I’m seeing some use Gunpowder Gamble it’s very good and underrated. Also we need Armor Set Bonuses not tied to seasonal BS but tied to abilities,Supers and more like origin traits but on Armor
I wish all the content creators the best, you guys make playing destiny way more fun (you rock datto, go cats). I think the answer is pretty damn clear- make TFS a banger, keep d2 on maintenance/its current trajectory while launching Marathon, and announce the launch of a Destiny 3 targeted for 2027/8. It all hinges on the Final Shape being well received (and profitable) but if that happens, Destiny has had such insane player retention for a decade now that I expect a theoretical D3 to be a hit on the same level as the first two games. They would have to innovate for sure, but even D2 brought so many new players into the game to varying levels of retention, and even with so many quality new games coming out, nothing quite touches Destiny’s very unique and lasting niche. Not sure how that timeline would play out for content creators who rely on Destiny as a livelihood at present (or for myself who will have a great deal less time for video games at that point) but I am very confident that Destiny can continue if invested in, and there will be something worthwhile both for players and content creators in the future if Bungie and Sony want there to be. For the time being, I can’t wait for The Final Shape, and I hope all players from most elite to casual will get something they can really enjoy.
I'm sure I've made a similar comment on one of Datto's vids before but I feel enough of a passion to make it again: I played Destiny since Destiny 1 Beta, and I lived this game until 2022. Not going to sleep and playing Rise of Iron for 48 hours straight was (as insane and unhealthy as it sounds) the best social gaming experience I've had before or since. After Destiny 2 jumped the shark, "the boys" group disintegrated - whole clans died, and now I don't even think about Destiny. I wish I did still think about Destiny. I don't want the franchise to die. I may not get my boys back, but I might get Destiny back.

No problem Datto! Appreciate the effort put in to keep the quality there!
watched it in its entirety?? yes. i have succeeded
Use your super !! Don't keep it!!!
Nah no cringe there brother, I feel the same way. I just wish Datto would pick up a fighting game
We love datto
Im the exact same, age and all. The D2 community has been a bright spot in my life. I hope to see it thrive again.

I've seen that sort of thing in videos from other UA-camrs (usually in service of speed) but here I kind of thought it was a stylistic choice tbh, leaving in part of the usually excised production to illustrate how burnt out he's feeling right now.
I thought he was just being transparently funny 😂

Nah it’s boohoo poor UA-camr whiny bs. He makes more than most people and has the gall cry about not getting a break
For those out of the loop of what Datto mentioned by "New stuff coming", here's a list:
January: End of the exotic mission
February: Moments of Triumphs and "wishes" which are like story content missions but smaller apparently.
March: Guardian Games
April-May: PvP map pack and Into the light, something like the 30th Anniversary but on a smaller scale.

@@sauceinmyface9302 that’s a good point!

The already confirmed episodes are 15 USD dollars each instead of 12 USD which imo is better for 2 reasons
1. It's cheaper over a full year, 45 USD instead of 48

As a solo player, Fireteam Finder has been a game changer. Previously, Matchmade content were too easy for my power level while finding fireteam to play harder content was a pain in the a** (especially as French, even if I speak quite good English, people are just jerks).
My biggest complaints are:
- Nightfall should be a playlist (small one sure, but 1 map per week is too few to make it fun to play a lot for a casual player).
- With Titan reappearing in S21 I honestly thought we would get the full planet back (including one of my favourite Strike).
- Gambit... what to say more than just "do something, update it or shelf it but do something".
Did you never use the destiny app. Its basically the fireteam finder but easier to use

At this point they should do what WoW does, include all prior content when you buy the most recent expansion.
how can they do that when you can't even access content you did purchase for... reasons?
I mainly want TFS' story/conclusion to be good & Bungie to do the Witness justice, as someone who's been following the story the past decade & mainly cares about that. & after the conflict with the Witness is resolved idk if I'll be interested as much, just gotta wait & see
I think destiny needs to add the ability to earn cosmetics that we actually want via the pinnacle content in the game like the ultimate raids in FFXIV or mythic raids in WoW

It's a waste of resources.
gm nightfalls already dont see a lot of players that change wouldnt help the majority so i doubt that happens
Final segment hits hard
Datto's ad read game is too strong, I could watch a full compilation of them.
Here’s some stuff I would love to see and I think would actually entice me to play more of the game again
- New enemy races
- A new class entirely
- A new tier of weapons/gear (power creep doe)
- Legend/master strike playlist
- Something akin to the Coil but with significantly more variety (like a lot more variety)
- A competitive PvE mode of some sort (Gambit clearly ain’t it)
- Something akin to Path of Exiles mapping system w/ randomly generated areas, scaling difficulty and bosses to progress towards. Bonus points if I could use my constantly maxed out currencies to modify that reward structure & gameplay loop
I understand a lot of this stuff is probably unrealistic but post Final shape if the game wants to survive they need to try SOMETHING interesting.
Hope everything is going okay for you, dude.
Do your thing. We'll be here.
Just hoping 2024 is a good year for us 🤙 have fun, stay safe out there and look after one another. See you out there Guardians
"Datto describes marriage with Destiny" the video
Like other people I've been with your channel for a loooong time around 2015ish Era, and seeing your content improve and evolve has been very exciting to see. No matter what happens next in D2 im here for it and ill always come to a datto video no matter the direction you go in my friend.
I felt that Season of the Wish was a surprising improvement on reinvigorating interest for me. Previous season was a drag and this season I've played way more than I expected.
You have 5 more months pal, calm down
@@DB_________dude, let him have fun
@@DB_________God forbid someone has more fun than you, theres no need to bring others down because you’re bored as all hell
Reupload? I’ll watch it again
ah man i just watched the last datto video and he just made a new one
'UniRoNiaclLy' you kids and that word.
@@Alostwanderer88 u aight bro? u don’t seem well in the head
@life-destiny1196 very true
Looks like Jez is rubbing off on you even more coming into this year with that sponsor bit
one thing id love to see is a wave kinda mode where enemies keep spawning in waves with later waves having hard bosses, while fighting through the waves you get new weapons and abilites but if you die you lose everything except some currency to buy permanent upgrades
you would start with a white weapon then get green, blue, purp and exotic
abilites would be locked behind boss waves
Basically you want CoD Zombie or Killing Floor. I'd agree with that but put in Lucient Hive and Lightbearers, and maybe 2 champions.
Seeing the game from their perspective helps the burnout.
im so hyped for the datto personal project and possible content pivot. god i loved the dash of variety we got a few months back
I actually got so hyped when I heard Final Shape was getting delayed, not for the "It could turn out better" factor, but because I'm an OG D1 Beta player, and I'm just glad to have some free time before the game beckons me back.
Fatigue is real, and getting 3 more months to chill will make me feel a lot more interested when the content comes back.
10:55 Fireteam finder is the reason I came back to the game. I can now do raids and dungeons because of it.
Damn, when I heard “…feeling forced to log in…”, I felt that.
did bro just say "we're in 2024 now in case you're not keeping track of the time"?
You do have a core audience of people that are here for you and not just for guides and Datto’s thoughts on things. I know you’ll find your footing post Final Shape.
I know it would take a while to prepare but that shader game was some heat I would watch all of that
Datto, I’ve been in and out of this channel for about 10 years now and I just want to thank you for the time you’ve put in to help hundreds of thousands of guardians, destiny wouldn’t be destiny without datto.
But I'd rather people raid with a bad loadout than bully them out of raiding at all.)
the kinds of players who need raid-specific mods to clear regular raids probably aren't aware they exist or don't own much of the armor/many of the mods.
You're a good one Datto.
D2 is lucky to have a lot of great content creators dedicated to it, but you are my favourite. You keep it real.
Ever since Marathon was announced, im sure everyone has seen the writing on the wall of how it'll be the deathblow for Destiny going into maintenance mode.
How to fix weapon crafting
Make it so certain roles are only available as drops.
Ah thanks for letting me know what year it is... I was too busy grinding gambit i forgot to check the time
4:41 Deep dives limped so that The Coil could jog*
Datto this is the exact thoughts video you posted last time
6:44 Gave me a heart attack seeing that big ol' bomb that close
I really miss when I used to log into Destiny, do some raids with the boys and shoot the breeze, then jump into Crucible, hit some snipes and go to bed. I haven't played Destiny for about 6 months at this point, and I don't see that changing any time soon. So long Destiny, and thanks for all the fish.
Im going to assume this reupload removes the clapping 😭
Can we bring back the scope customization and other aspects like it?
Before making armor matter again, I need at least TWICE as much Vault space as I currently have.
Your Spell comment rings so true. Been there along the ride with you when all this began.
So to those wondering, yes, some people do watch the ads
honestly the biggest problem for me is:
13:32 that grenade tho. nice arm, uul'nath
18:35
THIS. THIS. It’s nothing new but just hearing it broke me inside.
would be cool to see you do some general commentary stuff a la moist critikal/pyro live. i really respect your opinion as a content creator and have always loved how frank youve been with your audience. always gonna support your work even if its not destiny forever. love ya datto
The inevitable death throes of an ongoing game that builds itself on a power fantasy rather than anything substantial.
I know we all would love your commentary on other games and the games industry. That could be a somewhat easy pivot.
Marathon will be a piece of shit. And you’ll still be running the same dogshit strikes in 10 years because you’re addicted and a loser.
This is the end…
I would honestly like if they released a version of the game thats just the story beginning to end
I'm sure I've made a similar comment on one of Datto's vids before but I feel enough of a passion to make it again:
I played Destiny since Destiny 1 Beta, and I lived this game until 2022.
I was listening to this in the car then it got removed. Glad it went back up so I can listen
The Ocarina of Time music during the ad read is my favorite 😂
