Peppers are a big favorite of mine, I really like the taste and intoxicating aroma when cooked, they just make any dish better and they are beautiful. I planted 'Redskin' myself, also bought mixed color. I can't wait, I'll be happy if my harvest is half yours. Lovely video as always.
Delighted to hear it. Wishing you a great harvest (twice as mine) and thank you so much for your comment!

Beautiful peppers 🫑
Thank you so much!😊
Love the video! For the seedlings, to clarify is it seed mix + sieved compost mixture or I can replace both and just use 100% potting mix?
So glad you love it! Yes, the potting soil will work too. Happy growing and thank you so much for your comment!
❤
Thank you so much!
Well done sir. Please what type of fertilizer did you apply. And how often should we apply it
Enjoying the videos! Quick question: with any bell pepper (red, purple, etc.) how do you know when it is ripe? Are you looking for the whole fruit to be a uniform color and/or firmness, or is it just trial and error?
Although purple peppers are edible at any stage of growth, harvesting once they develop their full size for the specific variety and develop an even purple color ensures the best quality. To retain the purple color, they are harvested before they begin to show any red, orange or yellow spots, which usually develop first near the stem end of the fruit.
Once a purple pepper begins to develop its mature red color, it quickly changes and loses most of the purple color that makes it stand out. If the stems of the peppers begin to turn black, the fruit is about to drop from the plant. This shows the pepper has stopped growing and adding flavor and should be picked before it rots
You are right, usually it is the color and shape. You can pick one and if yo think still has more to go, leave the other on. Don't worry too much, you will know by picking few of them in no time. Happy growing and thank you for your comment!

Did you prun the shoot tips and some leaves to make them fruiting very well ?
I pinch top growth when the plants is very young. After transplanting I usually don't prune plants. In very rare cases that one stem is getting very tall, I will prune it but otherwise I let the plants grow normal. Hope this helps and thank you for visiting!
Did you use the Okatsune 103 Bypass Pruners General Purpose Medium to cut the six ft stakes in half? What drill bit size are the holes in the white seed flat?
No I just use a small hand saw. Those are 1/4" holes.
@@TowardGarden I have never used a saw to cut bamboo poles in half before. I hope you will do a video on how to set that up and the saw you recommend to buy to perform the task. Thanks
Just planted some! They’re starting to fire but are a dark green 🤔 we’ll see how they turn out!
I planted a pepper plant I bought at shop rite didn’t say anything about purple peppers just peppers. To my surprise when they started to grow they were purple right from the beginning. I didn’t know there were purple peppers or never heard or seen any. I thought my plant was sick. Bit I let it keep growing. I’m glad I did! Wow gorgeous. I started doing research…. after seeing this video… the rest is history! Love this video.
@@bridalgalmulticulturalbeau1345 oh nice! How’d they turn out? I’m thinking I just got my labels mixed up bc one of the plants has purple in it but no peppers yet to see! I don’t remember buying just green though.
It is not uncommon for them to start dark green. If you are confident they are same variety, they will turn purple. Thanks of visiting.
@@bridalgalmulticulturalbeau1345 So glad to hear it. Thank you so much for sharing!
Can I just replanting straight from first seedling stage to big pots, skipping the second part?
It is possible. But younger seedlings will handle transplanting shock better if they are gradually introduce to final growing place. Also, they are more prone to disease when very young. But it is doable. It is up to you. thanks for visiting!
Hi, are you able to use the plant multiple years?
Hi! yes you can if you overwinter them. Peppers are perennials meaning they can grow next year for a fresh harvest. Just remove all leaves and keep them in a covered sheltered place. thank you for visiting😊🌱
Can you make how to grow jalapeño peppers?
I 'll try to grow and post a video on jalapeño peppers. Thanks.
Silly question ~ what are those plastic thingy's you put around the plant and the stake? I know they are NOT called "plastic thingy's".......Are they on Amazon? Oh my goodness....... the size (and vibrant colors) of your beautiful peppers are amazing. Now I gotta go on the hunt for "Beautiful Purple Pepper" seeds to add to my 4 pack Bell Pepper collection. I have; Sweet Chocolate Peppers, Orange Sun Peppers, Sunbright Peppers and California Wonder ( I love that one because I am moving back to California!) Everytime I watch one of your awesome videos......I get into fun spending mischief. Heck it's always money well spent😄Be Blessed and Have a Wonderful weekend.
I think you already found those plastic clips, but if not I have listed them on my amazon page here www.amazon.com/shop/influencer-3dd9a3b6/list/1DV0D2DY178MS?ref_=aip_sf_list_spv_ofs_mixed_d . So sorry that my videos make you spend more, that is not the purpose here for sure. But again if you are interested here is the link www.superseeds.com/products/lilac-bell-pepper-70-days . Always good to hear from you and God bless you too!🙏
@@TowardGarden OK thanks for the link I will check it out. No worries about me spending money. I'm growing FRESH PRODUCE for me and Sophie and that is a "Big WIN" for sure. And she loves tomatoes. I had to have "the TALK" with her again about eating my produce.....and we are now on the same page LOL.
@@TRTGCbyjroed Lol, Hope Sophie is not a fan of purple color. Thank you Ms J and take care!
@@TowardGarden we shall see😂
@@TowardGarden I am making homemade dog food for Sophie. So she knows eating up Mom's produce is NOT a good idea LOL. Just posted Sophie's video on my channel. Check it out when you have a spare minute.
Can you still eat them when they turn red or are they over ripe by then?
Absolutely, they are more sweet when ripen to red. Thank you for visiting!
I've never grown peppers. Do people only over-winter them once or more winters?
You may not want to overwinter it too long so the disease don't carry over each season. Thanks for visiting!
In some videos, you use black 3 inch containers. In this one, you use the green ones. Have you noticed any success in growing health of the green vs black containers since black attracts more light, hence more heat, which may not necessarily be good in hot summer months.
I haven't notice any difference in results. They both do the job.
@@TowardGarden Good. Black is so common at chain garden centers. Green seems more rare, so I will save money to buy green vs black.
Sir , Which brand of seeds are you using?
I use different seed brands, but for this variety pepper I used Pinetree garden seeds www.superseeds.com/collections/peppers/products/lilac-bell-pepper-70-days . Thank you for visiting!
Please what causes peppers flowers to drop mine has lots of flowers but they keep dropping 😢
Sorry to hear that. It is hard to tell without knowing the details. It can be due to several reasons: Lack of light (shade area), too hot or too cold, high humidity, over watering, lack of nutrients, or pest fungal disease. If the plant is growing tall and not fruiting, probably it doesn't get enough light. And make sure you feed them with a vegetable fertilizer. Also, try to shake your plant (gently) during flowering to increase the chance of pollination. I hope this helps. Thank you for visiting!
How do you treat pest problems associated with pepper? Mine has a beetle eating up the leaves and causing flowers to drop.
For pests, my 2 choices are neem oil mix and spinosad. Both are organic, but spinosad works great on many insects including leaf eating pests like leaf miners, caterpillars,...Monterery garden insect spray is one of the good choices, I have listed it in my amazon page here www.amazon.com/shop/influencer-3dd9a3b6/list/XLDNRZO26ESK?ref_=aip_sf_list_spv_ofs_mixed_d . But any spinosad solution will work too. I hope this helps and thank you so much for your comment!

Islander bell pepper
Looks like they are kinda same variety. Thanks for the feedback.
How do you know when the peppers are ready to be harvested?
Although purple peppers are edible at any stage of growth, harvesting once they develop their full size for the specific variety and develop an even purple color ensures the best quality. To retain the purple color, they are harvested before they begin to show any red, orange or yellow spots, which usually develop first near the stem end of the fruit.

If the stems of the peppers begin to turn black, the fruit is about to drop from the plant. This shows the pepper has stopped growing and adding flavor and should be picked before it rots
The peppers turn dark purple and eventually red when they past growing in the purple stages, so the easiest is when you see them starting to turn very dark purple to reddish. Thanks for visiting!
If you give full information in this video with complete nutrient pesticide also. Your video superhit More likes.
I will try to include more information if possible. Thank you very much for your feedback.
Why they turn red?
That is the variety characteristic, nothing wrong with the fruit. Thanks for visiting.
How much are purple peppers worth
Honestly I haven't seen them in grocery stores so not idea what the price is. For me it was fun to grow these so whatever the price, I was well worth it. Thanks of visiting.
Ill be back when you get 66.6k subscribers >^_^
Hope to see you soon 😉
@Toward Garden, why is the on the far right containers has sprouted a red bell pepper than the usual purple ones,ha?. Some sort of fluke of nature?.
Just like bell peppers start out green and turn to yellow, orange and red: Light that enters the plant is converted into chemical energy via photosynthesis as the chlorophyll breaks down yellow and orange becomes visible. You have different chemical changes that enrich the yellow, red or organge colour. All of these have health benefits so it's not a "fluke".
It also depends on verity and ripening of bell peppers, they all have different processes.
This variety starts lime green and turn purple. And if left to ripen more, it will eventually turn red (it is mention in video at 8:53 ). Thanks for visiting!
@@Angotha Right on! Thank you for sharing!
Had 1 plant in 5 last year that turned purple, stayed purple and then went red literally overnight before I could harvest. Never had that before.
Interesting, mine usually takes days if not week to turn red. Thanks for sharing!
Well done sir. Please what type of fertilizer did you apply. And how often should we apply it
Check video @6:09. I used 3-4-4 organic fertilizer, 2 Tbsp every 2-3 weeks. You can also use any tomato fertilizer, or any fertilizer high in phosphorous and potassium. Hope this helps and thank you so much for your comment!
