Nice job. Admittedly I always thought Dee used a Rickenbacker bass on this because the sound was twangy/fuzzy. But the Fender Precision here and the Fender Jazz used on the original recording are close to each other, and the twang is there (need to add a little fuzz in my opinion).
Guess this explains why Geddy Lee of Rush uses a Fender Jazz and tunes it a certain way to get the twangy tone to it. Damn... learned something new today, and I'm not even a musician. Just someone who appreciates solid & intricate Bass playing. And I came here because of listening to the original track.

Important aspect, Dee used to play with a pick in the studio and fingers during gigs. Anyway he played and sounded amazing with both of them

Super cool! Thanks Do you know if he used a pick on the original record? Sounds like it to me.

      Harc 70 Thanks!
It was definitely a pick on the original record, yeah. I’m just not a good enough pick player to want subject anyone on the internet to that, so I used the old fingers. But it is definitely a really cool, somewhat aggressive pick + drive - style tone on the original.

That's the easy part, what about the intro with the fast chromatic riff? I'm searching desperately for a tutorial of that part

Thanks so much for the sub!!! As for the request - awesome. Thanks. I've added it to the cue! Just gotta space out all the Jaco requests or we'll have nothing left soon - lol

BennyTheBassman just wondering if you went to college for music? Im thinking about going to college for music , but really all I need is the little stamp that says I know my shit. 😂

Billy Busty I did!! Humber college just outside of Toronto. Great program. You definitely never need to prove you went to college to get any playing gig, it’s true. But it is usually great for your playing, and also great for networking (which is really the most important thing an aspiring musician can do. Get to know people and get them to know you, because it’s those people that will hire you for gigs).

BennyTheBassman Cool thanks for sharing your experience I suppose I kinda had a narrow view. Definitely gives me something to think about always appreciated. And I’m actually working on figuring out song rhythms which was going pretty well, but I’ve kinda hit a plateau. When you were learning this stuff was there any standard notation books that you felt helped you in learning how to read?
