  • Polaris fought their way back into show room supremacy with the introduction of the 72-inch wide RZR XP Turbo S in 2018,
    The first Turbo S came with Live Valve Fox Podium shocks that are electronically controlled, along with all new body styling, a strengthened drive train, immersive cockpit, and long travel suspension, with an industry first, factory-installed 32-inch tall ITP tires.
    The Turbo S brings the infamous RZR capability and multi-terrain mastery to a whole new level.
    For 2019, Polaris created a more affordable version of their top tier machine.
    The RZR XP Turbo S Velocity.
    This UTV has a turbocharged 925cc, parallel twin cylinder engine, providing 168 horsepower.
    The muscular low RPM output will throw you deep into the seat, and pulls hard through the rest of the power range.
    The ProStar engine is mated to a fully automatic, CV transmission, with belt cooling upgrades.
    Polaris’ On-Demand all-wheel-drive system auto locks the front differential when the ECU senses rear wheel slip.
    Triple piston front and dual piston rear caliper, hydraulic disc brakes, slow the RZR down with ease.
    19 inches of wheel travel comes from high clearance, dual A-arms up front, while the trailing arm rear sports 21 inches of travel.
    Carving corners is made easy by a 72-inch track width.
    16-inches of ground clearance and long travel suspension help this RZR tackle the roughest terrain.
    One way Polaris was able to lower this Turbo S’ price point, was to swap the electronically controlled Fox shocks, for Walker Evans, Velocity needle shocks.
    These 2.5 front and 3.0 rear piggy back reservoir shocks let you dial in your compression setting, are preload adjustable and come with a dual-rate spring setup.
    We feel that this setup comes stiff from factory, and require a lot of break in time. Fortunately, these shocks are easy to modify.
    Polaris, left off lower door inserts, the roof, front and rear accent lighting, painted facias, a Sparco steering wheel, and the ride command system that the original S comes equipped with.
    However, color matched seats and four-point harnesses still come stock.
    All of these changes to the Velocity lowers the starting price point of the Turbo S from $28,199 to $25,399.

    Good stuff. Still not sure if there is enough value to make the Velocity worth it though. They removed a good $5000 worth of parts over the Turbo S buy only dropped the price by about $2700.

    Personally I prefer the non-electronic version. I don’t want a stereo, or ride command, or as good as I admit it is, dynamix. It’s not about saving money, it’s about saving the driving experience. As much as I think dynamix is awesome, it’s also distracting. I’m constantly fiddling with it. It gets in the way of the experience. My RS1 doesn’t have any of that technology, and it’s the most fun car I’ve EVER driven. My wife insists her car be a 2 seater. So, the turbo s velocity is the car I’ll be getting for my wife.

    I live in Ft Worth and everybody keeps saying they can buy these at $21k - $22K. Id like to know where please. I have been to more than a dozen places and can't get one for under $25K. Hell I payed $25K for my new car and it has power windows, locks, tilt wheel, cruz control, GPS, AM-FM Radio with blue tooth, A/C and heat, 285HP and its street legal. So why so much money for these SxSs? This is stupid. These thangs should sell for around $10K or at most $15K.

      25 inches of suspension travel, compression/rebound adjustable needle valve shocks, fuel-injected turbocharged dohc 4 valve engine, cvt transmission, electronic power rack and pinion steering, double wishbone front suspension, 3 link trailing arm rear suspension, roll cage, alloy wheels, same power to weight ratio as an Aston Martin DB7. And you think $22k is too expensive?

    • @stgraves260
      @stgraves260 3 роки тому

      @@kungfucommando1642 yes I do. No technology. You stretch a trailing arm 6” over stock and call it long travel. That’s just funny to me. You can buy a 2021 Honda Type R engine bran new from Honda for $6500. Over 300 HP stock. Yes it’s turbocharged, but 6k for just a turbo on a SxS is a joke. All the body panels on a SxS are plastic and they cost more than a full size automobiles panel. There is no air bags, no power windows, locks tilt, Cruze, AC/Heat windshield wipers, GPS/navigation, Bluetooth, lumbar seats, horn, blinkers, 911 assist. There is not even a single window on the machines. That’s all extra. I’m sorry a vehicle approaching $30k damn well better come with something other than a cheaply built cage, half a motor. What am I saying. It’s not even half a motor. It’s a 2 cylinder. LoL!!! I have seen rock bouncers built between $10k - $20k. It’s a blown up SxS I guess. It just has a 600 plus’s HP supercharged V8. A real roll cage that can take a hit and not collapse after one turn over. 4 wheel steering. 40” plus tires. Yes SxS are way over priced for what you get.

      It is time for an update but it is certainly one of the best for all around performance fun. The X3 Can am is more difficult to get into and has other short comings outside of dunes and open desert running. The seating position even adjusted is hate it or love it. The Polaris has great ground clearance and really performs in the open areas but stands out when things get tough and technical. I would really like to see them update their cabin more seriously though. It’s hard to feel like you’re sitting in a $28K machine when you sitting in the Polaris. Overall I agree Polaris needs to make some solid changes or they might be loosing some significant market. I think it’s clear these machines aren’t going away.

    • @LOOKFAST
      @LOOKFAST 5 років тому +1

      @@JsGarage i agree but diasagree. I feel can am is a far better machine. Engine has proven itself over and over from sledding to utv. Build is solid trailing arms 4 link suspension all of it. polaris finally caught up with build nothing can am didn't have. Polaris brought to the table the best machine they have built. Interior i agree with you feels cheap saying that as my best friend has one says the same he was sold on dynamics but really keeps it in one mode for trail and other for rocks. Not a big deal.As for dynamics from polaris 👏👏.Yet i purchased a can am put navatlas so it has same functions as polaris screen location of buddies front rear cameras minus dynamics. Input 2inch after market spacers on seats and its a perfect ride for me 6 feet tall. As for polaris and can am ride polaris still bucks suspension squeks ball joints and fittings need upgrade and time will tell if there's mechanic issues will know next year on forums. This was polaris big reveal so we wont expect another for awhile 2024 maybe 2023. Can am wont sleep on there competition i am confident and can bet next year can am will re claim the throne. I dont feel they lost it but polaris is american cheaper so i get it. But i have a feeling ill be in a new can am soon with upgraded electronics.

    • @JsGarage
      @JsGarage 5 років тому +1

      12LOOK4 2FAST Can am has always made a high quality machine. All I’m saying is the wheelbase and ground clearance on the RZR makes them better for technical obstacles and tighter trails than the X3. The X3 really shines in more open high speed areas. It’s not saying that one is overall better than the other. I’ve always felt the cockpit of the Can ams to be more premium feeling. The seating position in the X3 isn’t great for visibility but feels safe when hauling ass. Both fantastic machines but yea Polaris needs to step it up and give something fresh. Also with dynamics you don’t need to be changing settings all the time to benefit from it. The whole point of the system is that it detects roll, pitch and when the tires leave the ground. Even when you leave it on comfort it is changing on the fly to soak up bigger impacts and combat body roll. Dynamix might be the single thing that Polaris truly leads with.

Why didn't Polaris put on larger tires before (I mean before Can Am did). Why can't Polaris have more HP than Can Am? Why did Polaris keep silent about the fire hazard in the XP for over a year, risking the lives of it's users to protect their stock value? Yeah Polaris is the leading brand, in recalls....

      You're upset that you are priced out of the Ferrari of UTVs? Do you feel the same about not wanting to pay $200k for a Ferrari? What the market will bear and right now the number of people willing to spend $25k+ is clearly high enough to make this a profitable machine to develop. Demand is driving this sort of edge of the performance (from the factory) envelope. There are plenty of options at lower price points but you pay to play and no one is forcing you to buy this model so its unclear what you're upset about other than not just saying I'm envious of those who have one of these. (half of them are probably leveraged and financed to the tits, so there is that).

    As much money as Polaris has made with these things, you would think they would have a real transmission in them. The transmission should last longer than a oil change.
    And before all the Polaris guys chip in and say how long there belts last, your full of shit. I have driven these enough now to know that if I hammer on em the belts don't last enough to say it's a system that works. It's a "high performance offroad machine" and if driven like one, you better keep a six pack of belts on hand.

      Do you understand what would happen to a manual transmission under this much stress? It wouldn't be a simple belt replacement, you would be replacing clutches, gear, ect. The way these things are pounded on a CVT is the best way to go. Not to mention faster.

      "This much stress"
      Really, your going to say 160hp machine is going to put too much "stress" on a geared transmission. Pull your head out of your ass. They can make a manual work no problem, hell they can even make a automatic for those that can't seem to drive a clutch these days without burning clutchs left and right. It's not rocket science. And no CVT is not always faster, it's just cheaper for the OEMs to be fast.

      @@fordmud Look, another wordsmith. And your an Idiot. These transmissions are "small dude". Not the size of a car. So nowhere near the strength. And yes they are always faster. Do some research as to why they were banned in F1 racing. Your staying in the power band 100% of the time. Something that is impossible to do with a manual transmission. So you pull your "head out of your ass idiot". That being said manual transmissions are fun to drive.

      So the Honda talon and the YXZ 1000 transmissions are just never going to work according to you. It's obvious you don't have any actual experience in the matter and get all you information off the internet. I will gladly take you on in your Polaris CVT with a manual transmission rig of less power and kick it's ass. And no cvts are not banned in F1 because there "faster" no one could make them hold up long enough to meet F1 regulations. But obviously you know all this and how much power loss there is with a cvt, so I guess there's no reason to argue anymore is there. Rubber belt CVTs are garbage in a machine of this weight class and power. Get over it.
