shibomu it’s just simple bobbing and weaving, which works really nice to convey visually that balrog is an experienced boxer, the Dempsey roll is a whole other different thing.
every sprite from snk is better , they have more details , more frames for each animation for a better fluidity , more colors , at capcom the sprites are just cheap , both are meant to be cartoon like , the point is : at snk people understood that cartoon like doesn't mean cheap and poorly developed , not to mention the stature of every character , at capcom they just set a default height for every character and there are only some exeptions , while at snk every character can be it'self in every aspect
Shadow Master :v Nah. That would be pretty amazing if SNK was covering up the fact that their sprites were actually pre-rendered through the years and nobody caught on. These are hand-drawn sprites.
P0RCA MAD0NNA TROIA P0RC0 DI0 SERPENTE F0TTUT0 the sprites aren’t more detailed, they’re just darker, the capcom sprites have just as much creases wrinkles and folds as the snk side just lighter, plus the idle animations somehow look more realistic than the more realistic art style.
Character sprites are debatable as they both have completely different art directions. Personally, I like some of the sprites from capcom for some of the characters, and SNK for other characters. But one thing that is not debatable is that SNK's sprites are far more animated.

It continues to amaze me how far they went to animate the characters' changing creases in the clothing for their animations. KOF XII and XIII by that respect was practically sprite porn!
Love SNK! SNK wins big time. So biased for many reasons. Especially when it comes to King of Fighters. The animation, gameplay, fun, graphics, number of characters, the list goes on. I can play Street Fighter games for 45 minutes max. I can play King of Fighters for hours.
While Capcom has a more distinct and appealing art style, SNK's sprites are objectively better animated and more detailed. Putting THAT level of detail into an animated sprite while still retaining fluid and bouncy motion is very commendable on SNK's part
Considering SNK sprites are somewhat limited with the Neo-Geo hardware while Capcom's on NAOMI (Basically Dreamcast), both are very good, but SNK is more fluid and realistic.
guilhermevader SNK had FAR more memory to work from, and even then none of the RAM constraints. With the CPS2 origin sprites, all of it had to fit into 32MB, whereas SNK had upwards to over 100MB at the end of the NeoGeo’s lifespan. Also with the Naomi titles, RAM and ensuring that load times weren’t huge was a big factor in how they animated sprites. It’s the big reason all the characters more or less animate like they do in Alpha 3 and not Third Strike. Even past this, NOTHING SNK has animates as well, or has the dynamic gestures of either the Marvel series or the Three Series of games. The closest they ever got was Mark of the Wolves, and even that fell prey to robotic stiff animation despite the amount of frames. Also, Hugo doesn’t count for the SNK side in this comparison either. He was more or less a color modified, ratio adjusted, and traced over rip of his Third Strike sprite. And he looks WAY off and like he was supposed to be in another game compared to everyone else for that reason.
in truth every sprite from snk is better , they have more details , more frames for each animation for a better fluidity , more colors , at capcom the sprites are just cheap
Ralph Pollard The Dreamcast version of 3rd Strike has virtually all the frames of animation of the arcade version. Most complaints are on the gameplay changes. The same with SNK ports to the Dreamcast. CvS2 could certainly have the same number of frames of animation per character as 3rd Strike, Capcom just chose not to do the work. Also technically, the DC has much more and faster system RAM than the Neo Geo, although you do run into constraints with optical media vs cartridge.
Ralph Pollard That's 32 megabytes of RAM for the Naomi vs. 100 megabits (1/8 of a byte, so 22.5 megabytes) for the entire Neo Geo cartridge. The Capcom sprites aren't as well animated for no reason other than Capcom did not draw as many frames.
0:43 SNK's Terry has more grit to him. Probably just the shading but he has the back alley lighting (Ironically) "Street Fighter" Look to him. Chun Li - SNK > Capcom Mai - SNK = Capcom

That's true, but bringing up proportions is not fair because there are obvious and clear art style differences. Capcom started going cartoony (a direction that never changed) since SFA, while SNK uses a more realistic style for the KOF games, and also used it in SVC
The Capcom version of Mai Shiranui is when I began to adore Mai. She just had this really "cute" face in that iteration which I felt added a lot more to her overall design than keeping her usual "super sexy and mature" face that SNK would usually do. When she smiled during her victory poses she gained a level of adorableness to go with her general sexiness. Or at least, that is how I see it...
Both have interesting sprite styles. Capcom likes to make their sprites anime/cartoon like while snk puts alot of focus on realism such as the movement of clothing and the detail on the muscles.
I'll admit I like the extra details and movement in the SNK sprites, but the subtle one's in Capcom's is just as appealing. (Take this one for example 3:03) (And this one 3:17)
They have diferent art, so some might preffer the capcom art others preffer SNK. But the SNK have more frames of animation, therefore I think it is better

David Kings , that's it. It's just a matter of what sort of art you like the most. Wether you like some simpler or more exagerated it' up to you. Apart from that, I preffer the SNK only for the frames of animation. That was what I meant
I actually quite like Capcoms animation more than SNK. The SNK models have WAY more detail but most of their sprites look stiff with only some moving parts. (Not all the sprites, like M. Bison and Dhalsim) Capcom animation on the otherhand feels so *alive* because the movements aren't overly exaggerated and they flow so well.

Strepto Coco exactly 🤣🤣🤣
@Muse Suse you must have a lot of friends
You can even see him bobbing his head in the snk version
@@bleack8701 the subtle Dempsey Roll
shibomu it’s just simple bobbing and weaving, which works really nice to convey visually that balrog is an experienced boxer, the Dempsey roll is a whole other different thing.
Capcom sprites mainly rely on expressing personality through movement and body shapes.
SNK sprites put an insane amounts of details in clothes.
Snk got the physics edge, the movement of their clothes is just amazing.
The fluidity and exaggerated motions in SNK's sprite work are why I've always thought they were the best in the business
every sprite from snk is better , they have more details , more frames for each animation for a better fluidity , more colors , at capcom the sprites are just cheap , both are meant to be cartoon like , the point is : at snk people understood that cartoon like doesn't mean cheap and poorly developed , not to mention the stature of every character , at capcom they just set a default height for every character and there are only some exeptions , while at snk every character can be it'self in every aspect
Shadow Master :v Are you claiming SNK's sprites are all actually pre-rendered?
Shadow Master :v Nah. That would be pretty amazing if SNK was covering up the fact that their sprites were actually pre-rendered through the years and nobody caught on. These are hand-drawn sprites.
The sprites shown here were hand made. SNK only started rendering from 3D models to 2D sprites since KoF XIV.
I love how detailed SNK's sprites are.
love the slight dempsey roll in Balrog’s SNK animation.
SNK seems to have more frames of actual animation.
Character sprites are debatable as they both have completely different art directions. Personally, I like some of the sprites from capcom for some of the characters, and SNK for other characters. But one thing that is not debatable is that SNK's sprites are far more animated.

@MoonScythe1 You hit the nail right on the head, I feel the same way.
It continues to amaze me how far they went to animate the characters' changing creases in the clothing for their animations. KOF XII and XIII by that respect was practically sprite porn!
To me Capcom's sprites are far more appealing to be honest.
@@PRCAMADNNATROIAPRCDISERPENTEFT How are they cheap? They give off an arcade vibe with their colorful animation, it looks good and it feels good.
SNK is all about THAT DETAIL
Love SNK! SNK wins big time. So biased for many reasons. Especially when it comes to King of Fighters. The animation, gameplay, fun, graphics, number of characters, the list goes on. I can play Street Fighter games for 45 minutes max. I can play King of Fighters for hours.
Same, I was playing SF 2, alpha and others, but KOF was love.

Capcom: Cartoony, lighter look
SNK: More grounded character design, more fluid animation
Capcom has more circular movement. SNK movement is more straight up and down.
I just like the more "cartoony" look of Capcom 🤷♂️. SNKs are phenomenal though!
*B O U N C Y* 0:35
I love that all street fighter characters with the SNK style look almost exactly like they looked in Street Fighter 2
While Capcom has a more distinct and appealing art style, SNK's sprites are objectively better animated and more detailed. Putting THAT level of detail into an animated sprite while still retaining fluid and bouncy motion is very commendable on SNK's part
Kim's pants may look nicer in SNK, but that's just a different fabric
In case you were wondering the song is Honeybar by the Rondo brothers

Probably just the shading but he has the back alley lighting (Ironically) "Street Fighter" Look to him.

I agree about Terry. His Capcom sprite kinda reminds me of his kof13 one.

SNK sprites have better proportions, better shading and more frames of animation.
ArmaBiologica35 Except Ken's head, which SNK drew too small IMO.
SEGAHEADDY I was just going to mention Ken’s head lol

That's true, but bringing up proportions is not fair because there are obvious and clear art style differences. Capcom started going cartoony (a direction that never changed) since SFA, while SNK uses a more realistic style for the KOF games, and also used it in SVC
But sadly they still they don't look as appealing as capcom...
Capcom : the one that puts alot of atention into coloring and design . Snk : the one that puts all the atention into animation
I love SNK's versions of Capcom characters and i love some of Capcom's versions of SNK Characters .
For example , Balrog by SNK .
It's November, calm that erection.

Oh Mai Goodness!
Happy Halloween!

I like that!
(Take this one for example 3:03)
(And this one 3:17)
Capcom: More anime looking
SNK: Smooth move
Like both but SNK if I had to choose.

Adao Lucena. But that make look some characters a little exageratred.
David Kings , that's it. It's just a matter of what sort of art you like the most. Wether you like some simpler or more exagerated it' up to you. Apart from that, I preffer the SNK only for the frames of animation. That was what I meant

@Skull Dude Benimaru

I love how rock design was so perfect that they couldnt change that much
Is it just me, or do the two company's do better sprite work for the other one's characters?
Yeah, you're not the only one
I don't like SNK Ryu and Ken. They seem stiff
mostly, yes, i agree.
With exceptions. Ryu and ken, like was said, sucked, because they're too closely based on the streetfighter 2 stiff sprites.
I thought that about SNK's Bison.
Ryo... Cmon
SNK whit the metal slug saga proved long ago to be the best in making fluid and detailed pixel art animation
Technically, Nasca(comprised of former IREM employees) developed the first 4 Metal Slug titles(1, 2, X, and 3), but I'll never deny that the sprites in those games are absolutely gorgeous.
Actually, '96 Vice has the same idle animation as her CVS's
